Thanks mate! Unfortunately it didn’t go as planned, had some hotspots and numb toes from 10km so had to tone it back, treat it like a long run instead and ended up finishing in 3:01:31. Very warm weather and slightly tougher course which can’t be helped, but overall still really enjoyed myself out there and will be back for it sometime!

Good luck. Your recent 10k race time indicates a 2:45 time is achievable if all comes together on the day

Thanks mate, the conditions aren’t looking too favourable with the forecasted warm weather and smoke but hopefully it isn’t too bad by then, will try my best!

How was the race? I've seen other vlogs and it looked like a very tough race. Will you be uploading a race recap and how was the Race Exhibition venue where you collected your bib? I heard it was a bit hard to get to with public transport.

Hey thanks for asking! The race expo was in a different location this time - Alexandria as opposed to Town Hall from last year, so it was further away from the city and you likely needed to drive, take a bus, take a shuttle bus from a train station, or take the train + 15min walk. Not too convenient compared to being in the city for sure but I guess they needed more space for all their event partners this year and there were heaps of booths, it was quite fun to check out!
In terms of the race, fortunately there wasn't any smoke from the hazard reduction burns, but it was very warm as forecasted, 18c at the start, and 25-33c or more depending on when you finished. It was also way more packed this year too and I'd say the course was tougher this year (bit more narrow sections, slightly hillier, and some broken footpaths). Long story short I had hotspots on my left foot and numb toes from 10km onwards (didn't test my shoes in a long run before the race!) so I had to change up my form and play it safe, ended up not really running it like a race but more like a somewhat careful long run.
Finished in 3:01:31 which is a bit disappointing but given the circumstances and conditions, I don't think I was willing to push harder or risk an injury so I'll take it. Still a big PB over last year and I'll likely be back some day! I'll definitely be uploading a race recap for sure, just a bit behind schedule haha

@@RobOnTheRun Thanks heaps for the reply. That's an excellent time and huge PB especially given the harsh conditions. Well done! I'm looking forward to your race recap. From watching other vlogs I also heard some complaints about the drink stations too (having to wait for water and not very organized). I think the Western Sydney Marathon on 8 October would be a much faster course and a lot cheaper too. I reckon you would easily do sub 3 on that course!

@@dreamingofdreamcatcher6820 Oh absolutely and thanks again! And yeah the organisation not being all there might've been expected since there were so many runners this year - 17000 this year vs. 6000 last year which is a lot of work for all the volunteers in the less-than-ideal weather conditions, but overall it wasn't the worst it could've been haha. They also handed out ice at some of the later drink stations which was nice but at the same time it was quite the hazard, imagine all the slippery ice cubes on the ground and having to dodge them on top of the already wet surface from the all the spilled water!
Another marathon does sound tempting, but I told myself a while ago that the Sydney Marathon was going to be my only marathon for this year, and that afterwards I'd go back to some shorter distances like 5K for a bit. Given that it's going to be a really hot summer, I'm not sure if I want to be out there too much and training for endurance haha... I might as well get into some speedier stuff and see how that goes for a bit. It really does feel like quite a shame with how the race went, based on how my training went and especially my lack of preparation in regards to my race shoes, however it's all good, I'll definitely be back for the marathon sometime to give it another shot!
