Well, thehoosierfortheUK, you're in luck, because HBO brought back their 1982/83 HBO In Space logo and remastered it for a 2019 movie by changing the sound effects to more realistic ones. Like, as realistic as the OG sound effects.

This theme spells HBO and made it what it is today. In fact the Da-da-da-Da-da-Da-da-da-da has been part of almost every HBO intro since so this theme should come back.
The following motion picture has been rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America, Parental guidance is suggested. I defiantly watched too much HBO back in the 80's as a kid.
Lol! Not really. My Dad was a cable head end technician so we had all the cable channels for free and I mean all the channels. (^_^)
I miss this HBO theme song like this.
I was only about 10 at the time, but I still remember my dad snagging my older sisters hifi and bringing it out to the tv on some Saturday nights. Now remember, back then (1980-1983) we didn't have stereo tvs yet. However, you could split the coax and run it into your hifi and 'tune in' a hand full of movie stations (and MTV) on the FM dial. Not even the local theaters had stereo sound. I remember being blown away hearing hifi stereo audio with a movie for the first time, when before sound always just came out of a tiny speaker. My life had changed and I'm still an audio freak to this day. Thanks for sharing.
OMG I can remember hearing this as a kid and getting so excited about whatever we were about to watch that I was practically jumping up and down.

There were some R-rated films back in the day that had an alternate PG-rated version, such as 1977's "Saturday Night Fever" and 1981's "Excalibur." The R-rated version of the latter would open with the rating bumper as follows:

I got HBO around 1993 but somehow I remember this theme song tough it says 1983.
Ferdinand J. Smith Composed the HBO Music for the Feature Presentation opens. HBO kept the music as of now since 1982 when the opens were introduced to HBO viewers. The opens aka: HBO in space were made by Liberty Studios in New York City.
Ever since this was introduced, the theme STUCK with HBO! And it is still in use, but arranged in a different way. Cool, right? 😁

Me too, maybe do a version where the amazing piano and horn arrangement are in tact but with added guitar and bass towards the end, just to give it more layers. I miss this intro.
