Fantastic footage John! Really nice to see Nantwich. Lovely Town, lovely people. And of course, the skip in Peter Wilson's yard from which most of the stuff in my house came from! Seriously. By the way; they kindly gave me permission to have a scratch about in there. Happy days.

I used to work at Peter Wilson in the early 1980’s and so it was fantastic to see this video. Remember those general sales very well.

I was born and lived in Nantwich for many years when it was a lovely town and the people were nice; this Video serves to remind me just how horrible it all went... Look at the expression on some of those people’s faces!?? LOL

Is it really that bad now? We are thinking of moving to Nantwich from a town in the West Midlands where I can say with assurance that society went horribly wrong many many years ago. Is Nantwich ‘that bad? Or is not just not quite what it was? as is the case for most semi rural towns in 2024 compared to 1985. Not being sarcastic, it’s a genuine question before we move.

@@timmanc I haven’t lived there for many years, but from what I’m told, it;s pretty much the same (if not worse) as when I left it; awful! What made you choose Nantwich? Had you visited? Or heard nice things about it? It’s a big decision to make to move anywhere of course, and so I would just take my time before you make any life-changing choices no matter where you were going. I think Nantwich got too big and overpopulated. Of course many years ago, it was small, and most, if not the majority of people who lived there were actually born there, and so most knew each other - if only by sight, but by the time I left, I could walk the whole town and meet nobody I knew, spoke to, or recognised... That’s quite a change! There was also a murder in 1982 - the first recorded I believe in the town’s history at the time, who also happened to be a relative of mine. But this wasn’t what I was thinking about when not thinking it a good place anymore; I was thinking more on the social side from a very personal point of you - I just don’t like it anymore. I’ve never been back - not even to visit since I left, and have no yearnings for it. I’m quite happy just to recall the fond memories I have of growing up there, and what it used to be like. 🙂 But to be honest, the same could be said of many places when you think about it.

I remember this so well. God, there were some good bits and some rubbish in the yard sales at Wilson’s. They have become a super posh saleroom now. Different altogether than the old days.
