When the three singers have such a good technique, it becomes pretty much impossible to compare them purely by technique. So it all comes down to more subjective ways of judging then such as vocal tone, musicality and overall artistry. Because of this I personally prefer Monica Naranjo due to her vocal power and projection, but also because of the ability she has to change her vocal tone and color to suit the song and create art. But again, this is very subjective and really only serves to measure them as artists, not as vocalists seeing as they’re all extremely good and you can see none of them pushing their voice.
It should be prefaced that ALL 3 of these women are some of the best belters of all time, but I do think Sohyang is technically the MOST impressive, at least in this area of the voice. Her mix is the most even, balanced, relaxed, and resonant here and she also uses the least twang and head voice to hit these notes. She also has my favorite tone out of the bunch for sure, but that’s not really technically relevant. Still though, all 3 are extremely talented and technically skilled, both in general and in belting.
@@badbada3003 idk if Vanessa really owns those. She's certainly great in that area, but for me, Sohyang starts having a more booming, resonant, and full projection as early as D5 when compared to Vanessa, as Vanessa gets very heady and twangy quite early...technically still great, but Sohyang maintains more weight and balance while still being very relaxed, which is arguably more technically impressive.
@@skylerpowers8871 vanessa is heady simply cuz she's very stylistic. She's a rock singer, mostly rock singer strains but vanessa has large amount of resonance and support even though her voice is gritty and metallic, which i found it more impressive
@@badbada3003 That’s a fair enough opinion. I just think Sohyang has the overall more resonant-sounding mix. Vanessa’s heady mix is still technically excellent and is certainly stylistically fitting, but showing the ability to add more weight and balance is also technically impressive.
Maybe she thought she had a more powerful voice than Pavarotti. She moves away from the microphone and cannot be heard. Pavarotti had to check if she was singing because she couldn't be heard
They're all good but notice how SoHyang and Vanessa are basically eating the microphone, meanwhile Monica is like half a meter away and she still sounds more potent than the other two
Monica- Soprano Dramatic Vanessa- Falcon Sohyang - lyric soprano Monica and Vanessa are better than Sohyang. It is absurd to say that she has better technique than other two singers because she doesn't have support in her mid and lower registers. Her strong side is only upper register, because she is lyric. But other hand Monica and Vanessa have very good supported lower-mid-high notes and their voices are more homogeneous. They have more developed and educated voices and definitely they are way more better vocalist than Sohyang. I prefer Monica's voice because her voice is more huge, powerful, resonant, resistant and has more variety of colors and textures and has more weigh in her voice. None of them are more versatile than her. She can sing everything in different ways. I'm not just talking that she can sing any genre of music, but she also makes incredible voice changes and proper dynamics depending of what genre she sings. Vanessa is amazing too. I am not saying Sohyang is bad, she is good but she definitely has problems in her mid and low registers and it is quite boring to listen a singer who constantly sing in her high tesitura. She needs to work on that.
Soyang belt is Scattered unlike Vanessa with ease and controlled. Effortless. Vanessa almost sounds Whistle. Definetly she wins. Vanessa piercing but Airy headtone😉 imagine Raspy to Smooth headtone? Almost sounds electric Guitar
I prefer So Hyang angelic voice above all like she sang 'the bridge over troubled water', 'arirang alone', and others. All 3 of them can belt beautifully but only So Hyang can sing the angelic voice so heavenly and made me cry. But hey, its up to your preference
It really isn't a competition if you ask me. It's more of a trio of magnificent singers who can sing their asses off. Each women offers something different when you listen to them. Monica has the most resonance, sound output, and can stay in fortissmo mode the longest without her voice tiring out is the mark of a true dramatic soprano. Sohyang has the most ease and her voice is so beautiful in color as well. Last, but certainly not least Vanessa. Her agility in the upper register is astounding, and the fact that she doesn't have the cleanest sound doesn't affect her at all since her type of music calls for her to be raspy here and there. It's a very textured voice, she can piercing, raspy, and she literally sounds like an electric guitar all in one.
I always thought the rasp was out of choice (adds distortion?) A "vocal guru" online once said that she does Aguilera better than Aguilera in that she controls this aspect. Without it, Vanessa's belts (past ~E5) are sonically confusing, and the audience doesn't quite know what she's doing. Chaka Khan handles it by keeping her middle extremely forward so the timbre isn't shockingly different
Asia's Strained Dog will leave you don’t know what you mean with “big voice” but that actually sounds like resonance. Do you know that SoHyang is a liroc soprano and that Monica is a dramatic soprano? If not, try to find the chaeacteirocs ofneaxh one. Just by definition you’ll know that Monica’s resonance is bigger. And I love SoHyang, btw.
@@shaunmike That could be true. Aguilera intentionally add rasp to her voice but she's doing it incorrectly. Straining. Vanessa adds distortion and literally sounded like an electric guitar. She sounds raspy but she has resonance, ease and technique (qualities that xtina doesn't have because her voice is light and not appropriate for what she's doing).
I'd say technique wise Sohyang, but Vanessa has her beat in tone. Vanessa also has a much more developed lower register that everyone forgets. She's hit B2 before, and supported C3 live. Plus, even her C5s are powerful.
knuxfan23 she didn't support C3. Her lowest support is D3 & most consistently is E3. Vanessa takes low notes while Sohyang takes HV. They're literally the opposite of each othef.
Andreanata Noivan well Vanessa just doesn’t use her head voice much tbh so we don’t know how well it’s developed. But I believe she’s gone up to an E6/F6 in head voice and has an even higher extension with whistle notes that we’ve only seen once where she hit a G6 with ease suggesting she could go higher.
I mean, Idk if I'd quite say Vanessa has her beat in tone. Her tone tends to get a little... strange... When she enters her higher belts. Sohyangs high belts tend to be fairly talkative, even when going above a G, whereas Vanessas tend to sound a little oddly shaped. Idk what it is, but her belts just sound strange to me. There are most definitely times where I think Vanessa has Sohyang beat, like the Bb5s in this. She sounded great in that clip, but I don't think that's her consistent belting tone as she tends to rasp a little uncontrollably at times. So even though I do think Vanessa *could* beat Sohyangs in terms of what their best vocals are, I don't think Vanessa would consistently beat Sohyangs tone in terms of their typical vocals.
Sohyang, of course. Her resonance is consistent up to C6/C#6 with a balanced-slightly heady mix (Bb5 and up). Vanessa's mix is very heady but she retains her metallic timbre up to the top of her range with support. Monica's resonance is larger than any of these vocalists up to F#5/G5 considering her Dramatic Soprano voice. Over-all, they sure are the queens of upper belting. SOHYANG > VANESSA > MONICA.
Definitely agree with them as the new belting trinity. A Full Lyric, Dramatic and Falcon Soprano. Sohyang until C6 (except for F5) Vanessa until C6 as well (except for E5) Monica until G#5 (her Eb5 is so inaudible tbh) and her C6 (despite "lipped?") were my favorites!
Wow...these three ladies are just incredibly skilled with their respective instruments. Of course they each shine in different ways & in different parts of the scale due to their vocal fach...1st we have Sohyang who's bright Lyric Soprano voice shines the higher she ascends & her even mix/natural agility allows her to be impeccable when displaying legato phrases. 2nd we have Monica Naranjo who's Dramatic Soprano voice provides her with raw power which she's able to transform into pure resonance due to her masterful technique & projection. 3rd but not last we have Vanessa Amarosi... whose Falcon Soprano voice is as elastic as water running through a river...her heady mix complements her metallic vocal production & helps her with her insane vocal stamina. Great video.
Sohyang is a only lady who mastered both mixed and headvoice techniques here. Her belting quality is flawless and her headvoice is extended to A6. She has done many coloratura runs that most opera singers struggles with. She can sustain soprano C for more than 10 seconds with full head blast, simply amazing.
Monica and vanessa support better in the lower and middle chest along with besting Sohyang's resonance in the upper belts save for B5/C6 (only due to Sohyang having better ease because of her tessitura)
In her recent performances, Sohyang has improved. Her low and mid register sounds fuller. Better resonance on 4th octave even. To think she didn't stop improving in her 20 years of career.
Maricar Tan what the fuck are you talking about. Sohyang is indeed has been singing as her profession for 20 years already. She debuted around the age of 20.
I think Monica has a better technique but SoHyang and Vanessa have more agility up there. And that's what sounds better in my ears... For me SoHyang wins this time even though Vanessa's and Monica's Belts are a little bit more supported in lower and middle chest... But let's be honest: This right here is criticism on a very high level/standard...
giacomo1308 nope. Sohyang & Vanessa beat her in technique. Both of them can support up to C6(Sohyang to C#6) while Monica doesn't. Sohyang's fach & high tessitura makes her midbelts sounds weak compared to them eventho it's perfectly fine, supported & resonant.
Sohyang and Monica usee balanced mix, Venessa slightly heady. In terms of belting qualities, Sohyang>Venessa>and Monica also considering a fact that Monica's C6 wasn't live.
So Hyangs voice is the highest of Soprano's though, she doesn't have to thin alot to mix, Vanessa is a very high mezzo and Monica is dramatic and both have alot of weight to shift in comparison to So Hyang. But I mean.... if you compared the entire range of the girls to So Hyang, So Hyang doesn't have as much to work with.. she has no low notes.. You are correct though, that last note of Monica's is her lipping a track.
Who' my favorite? Effin all of them. It's such a hype battling a Dramatic Soprano, a Full-Lyric Soprano and a hybrid Falcon Soprano. At the end, they all slayed 💪 👐 💥 💣
