"He just went all black and never came back" 😂😂😂
I don't think Bjorn is aware of what he is saying ... or maybe what he is saying means ... Hahahaha.
Is this a brother from another mother...!? 🤣🤣🤣
I laughed the same. 😅👍
a little bit of everything...i love it...never change Björn, all that rambling and so on makes you stand out.
I’m sure the police received a few phone calls about a drunk driver in an ID3 that night 😅
Ha ha - yeah, and then they sent out their undercover agents in 3 black Teslas only to find Bjørn rambling around as usual 😅
@@nakfanhahahaha
Crazy how you are just pumping out interesting videos day after day. Great work!
That's a lot of quality Volkswagen features
It feels like Bjorn has a fleet of cars at his disposal to do videos with 😂
Correct. Nowadays I have ID3, Leaf 24 kWh, Millennium Falcon (Model S) and Model 3 SR+ at my disposal.
Would be good to see VW Travel Assist vs Tesla Autopilot side by side on the same road with you explaining how they differ.
Can't beat Tesla autopilot
@@TomasKaubrys now, that is a very convincing argument.
If you watched Bjorn's videos he explained the difference. Tesla is way ahead
@@TomasKaubrys ahead in random phantom breaking too
@@seb. yes but vw only works good on motorway, theres no phantom braking. If you go on 1+1 lane road vw sucks, so phantom braking is better than nothing
If I remember correctly, eye + brain is like HDR with 7 different exposures. Good stuff ;)
Really useful to see this, Bjorn. Thanks.
Great AR implementation across the mix of navigation and assisted driving mode. Well done @VW.
This well sell in the millions like the VW Golf...
Now, where's the GTi or R version?
You`re more optimistic then VW Ceo`s lol... No, id3 is way too expensive for what it is...sales are quite low if you coun`t only regular owners and not government and companies purchases... id4 is much more appealing and better value but its really expensive for 70% of EU citizens...(talking about 40k+ car!?)
Really good video even with the rambling. I have chosen the HUD on my Enyaq and it will also have travel assist. Looking forward to seeing how it compares with the autopilot on my tesla (hopefully much better!).
“Brain does some brilliant HDR processing…” LOL !
I hope they integrate the night vision into AR. Would be cool to se animals or people get outlines in the ar
the area where they can project this stuff is just directly infront of the driver, its not the entire windshield so this would not really be possible.
@@Pixelplanet5 yeah where do you think the animals that matter are?
@@mikseinimikelpaa from the drivers point of view they could be anywhere on the entire area behind the wind screen and even off to the side and running towards the street.
if the animal would be infront of the car it would be no problem as the emergency braking can detect them early enough.
The problem are the animals that are NOT infront of the vehicle so they can not be detected and not outlines because your HUD only works in a small area directly infront of the driver.
@@Pixelplanet5 Yeah but you only hit the ones the AR would be able to highlight amarite?
@@mikseinimikelpaa nope exactly the opposite, if the AR system would be able to see it you would be able to see it as well.
You hit the ones that run onto the road from the side and are not visible until its too late.
the projected arrows are cool but the ID light looks annoying.
If Tesla would have a HUD, they could perfection it with their FSD AI to add an exact overlay to the road edges. Too bad that elon don't like HUD.
Well it’s extra complexity and thats something Tesla doesn’t want, also Tesla doesn’t want you to drive their cars, they want to develop their autonomous system so you never “have to” drive again unless you want to.
Lane assist is by now standard in all new VW models, as it will be required by law in the EU from 2022 on. Travel assist on the other hand is an optional extra, and needs to be activated, same as Tesla's Autopilot need to be activated.
And no Bjorn, i do not look at any ads ;)
ahh shit, I hope it can be turned off by default, it gets annoying in narrow streets.
@@TheFPSPower No it will be active after every restart.
I'm a BMW driver and i always use turn signals ..even if theres nobody behind or in front of me :D
Thank you, sir, I appreciate it.
Love HUD. I had it in a Prius back in 2011 and got so used to it I have had an HUD of sorts in every vehicle since. The AR is a bit gimmicky imo.
I like HUDs because they keep your eyes focused on the road more of the time vs having to look at the speedometer/nav, etc. But I don’t see much point in the AR.
I also have the ID3 with AR and travel assist, while travel assist is awesome, the AR is still a gimmick right now but there is a lot of room for improvements. I guess they need a lot more data for it to properly recognise some bends and intersections properly but you still have the HUD as a backup anyway and I'm confident it will work better with time
I find the highway junction lights a bit confusing. It is pointing ahead and to the side at the same time. If it already reads the lines for travel assist, the AR should paint the lane you need to be in to make it clear.
I like your german :D
That system is asking you to crash as if you miss you junction on the motorway as it said turn across the oncoming traffic 😨.
The cars GPS systems needs to be more accurate as is my stand alone sat nav that will go down to 3 meters and spot that you have missed your junction. Works on your satellite signal receivers VW ET ALL.
This is crazy one day ID3 other ID4, now I understand the confusion of Bjorn hahahahhahaa
Hilarious!! He just went black.. the Tesla. Good demo. I had questions on travel assist. Another review said it hugs the line. I'm a bit nervous about it, not impressed by it. May be a deal killer
AR is apparently only capable of hinting at a left or right easy/single direction change...
roundabouts have too many changes to process for it, not to mention GPS precision might not help if they were giving opposite directions in a quick sequence
I would order without HUD. It is only a nice option.
You would be mad to pay for this "gimmick"...its hilariously bad...
Hi Bjorn, is there any chance we see you testing ID3 45kWh battery version soon?
4:27 “ACHTUNG ACHTUNG !…….. YOU ARE DRUNK”. 😂🤣😂
Wish ID 3 came to the us also
Great video. Can I ask if the AR HUD works with navigation from Apple CarPlay or Android Auto? Or must you use the car’s onboard navigation?
I assume this HUD is still all flat. Ie. the blue arrows only get bigger, but they don't come closer and spatially unequal with the environment of the car.
So, you can focus (optically) either onto the displayed figures or the road, but not both at the same time, as the apparent distance from your eyes is different.
ID3 will be good WHEN they sort their software out... unfortunately they don't have anyone experienced in software at board room level.
I would say the ME2.1 version is already pretty good. My wife had no issues at all so far and I’m already kind of excited for the first OTA Update.
Ahhh, a little bit of rambling and some ranting :-) make a rambling ranting video podcast soon please 😀
at arround 8:20 Bjørn thinks the car knew how to indicate in that one roundabout. but it was just the navigation telling him what lane to take to get to the roundabout, he had a lane split into streight & right turn. and a left for roundabout. so i dont think it will help with roundabouts at all, ever.
I'm fairly sure its because the GPS is not accurate or fast enough to know in what part of the roundabout you are so it can't tell you when to exit the roundabout other then the little icon in the bottom of the display that shows what exit to take with an image.
ref. video at 11:33 : I wonder if 111 actually redirects to emergency services here in Norway? For good measure, the correct number here should be 110. 110, 112 and 113 is for fire, police, and medical help (though, either will work for any emergency)
If in doubt, 112 for all emergency services works from any mobile phone with a SIM card anywhere in the world if you can get a (roaming) signal. Don't even need to enter the unlock PIN.
@@nettlesoup no need for SIM either, often better to not have a SIM at all if dodgy coverage
@@mariusoye I thought so too, but apparently some countries (like UK) stopped accepting emergency calls from phones with no SIM because of persistent abuse and no way to track down the offenders.
I think that VW overpromises and at the end they couldn’t deliver everything.
Hopefully software is relatively easy to update, I would expect massive improvement in the infotainment system in the next 1 or 2 years.
Anyway, thanks Bjorn for your honest reviews 👍🏼
I would say this is exactly what they’ve promised us. In some areas even better.
what promises exactly did they make and didnt keep?
Geilo! 😁👍🏻
"Thats cute" - _Mercedes_
I like the AR but not for the price you have to pay extra(you only get AR on the highest trim level)
I see this test of driver/travel assist was 7 days after I took delivery of my ID3 Life Performance Pro on lease, this year. Today is 5th September 2021 and I have long since realised that the German SotA lane keeping [according to VW CEO Herbert Diess] will quickly kill you if you're not being as attentive as you would be if you were 100% driving. Which begs the question - what's the point? Even today it pogoed on the motorway and then didn't see one line and so started to cross into the next lane, before I intervened. Which could have been the edge of the road [and into a ditch at 70mph]. The ID3, as a car is really good. Its software is sheeeete. OTA update urgently required VW. You can't be letting Tesla gallop away so easily with the best car prize. At least try to compete. Would I buy an ID3? Not without a major update. Would I buy a Tesla? In a heartbeat, if I could justify the expense of more car than I actually need. The smaller Tesla that's coming will almost certainly head any future shortlist for me.
Apparently a quarter of registrations are by VW Dealers as the 'owners' in Europe.... possibly more in Germany...
I’m surprised the other drivers didn’t report you as a drunk driver.
It's like Need for speed underground :0
Title says ID3 but it looks like ID4?
Nice little feature. Thanks for the demonstration!
@@davorperat1069 IHe often says ID3 instead of ID4, I'm just double checking 😅
The last ID4 (gray) I had didn't have HUD/AR.
If that is how travel assist work I will travel fine without it - thank you...
Would love you to test the adaptive cruise, travel assist on the Motorway. I have it in my car and have driven with several brands. It always works reliably but I find that the distance gap it leaves is too close for comfort when cruising. Wonder what the ID3 is like?
The Minimum setting at VWis the legal Minimum, and then you can adjust 5 steps up, I usually use the lowest setting, maximum 2 steps up, 5 is really far away.
If I need arrows and lights to tell me when to turn left and right I shouldn’t be driving in the first place
Hei Bjørn, I am wondering why you want to learn German? I am from Germany and I am curious why people want to learn the German or move to Germany. Greetings and keep up the great work!
does the AR work when you use Apple Car play or Android auto for navigation?
I don’t think it does
No automatic lane change?
Nope. As far as I know, only Tesla has this feature.
Arrows + strip is overkill. I would prefer less Dacia interior.
I think the new Model S would be cool in murder spec.
when model 3 standard range range test?
After I'm done with ID3, yes. I only have ID3 for limited time. But I have the SR+ for almost as long as I like. Plus, I'm waiting for warmer weather so I get better result on range test with SR+. Nowadays it's a bit cold outside still.
Yay :D
Bjorn. You never said if the VW auto-pilot or driver assist has steering assist with its adaptive cruise control. And is it a mobileye system or what? How does it compare with TESLA basic autopilot for the highway. Interesting that the heads up does not let you know your indicator is working. Surely it should encourage people to use indicator. Lots of improvements needed. I am not at all impressed with this heads up display. It is not that intuitive either.
All ID's have lane assist, which is an emergency system, and not an autopilot. It will try to make you aware that you are drifting out of lane, and counter steer back towards safe ground. It will however not keep you in the middle of your lane. The Travel Assist on the other hand can be compared to Tesla's Autopilot, as it will keep your car in the centre of your lane. It needs clear markings on both sides of the road to work. The green lines that appears on HUD after lane change is an indication that it has identified the lane markers, and will proceed to auto steer. It will also indicate if it looses track of one or both lane markers. A major difference from the Tesla system is that the steering wheel is capacitive, so you only need to touch the wheel to let the car know you are paying attention. I believe Tesla requires you to move the steering wheel somewhat. After 15 seconds it will start nagging about touching the wheel if you let go, and after about 30 seconds it will activate safety stop.
You can forget about autopilot let alone FSD for non Tesla owners for years ahead... They will make highway autopilot somewhat good but still years away... I`ve driven a Mercedes 2020 with autopilot and there are constant problems... Only with good roads, visible lanes and little traffic it did well...(forget rain). And updates are not existing...
Is the HUD visible in bright daylight? It seems a bit dimm even under bright streetlights.
Yes. It is visible. Darker at night obviously
I test drove the ID.3 on a sunny day recently and the HUD was always bright and visible with a high contrast against the background. I liked it.
7:45 Oh no, the ID.3 tries to kill you, when you are DED. Fail...
Is this the VW FSD beta version?
Lol no...
Honestly, I will never miss any stupid LED stripes showing me the navigation path, what I will miss is a big screen where I can watch movies during charging. VW failed to inovate.
@@abraxastulammo9940 nah, on long trips my model X is always ready before I am. The kids are always complaning that there is no time to watch a series or play games...
@@noosestroke So why would you need to watch movies while charging if the time is already not enough? The ID3 charges even faster than the current version of the Model X, so you can’t even watch a 20 minute episode.
showing a confirmation that the car has identified lane markers is safety critical, as it means that the car is now steering for you. Similarly it will tell you if it looses one of the lane markers, meaning that you are back in control. Having said that, youtube on screen would be brilliant when charging.
Looks kinda distracting to me.
Everyone driving in the middle lane.... 🤦♀🤦♀
why is the speed limit so low? you could land a plane on that highway
Welcome to Norway - the land of low speed limits and even slower drivers.
Wasn't bright enough on a sunny day during my test-drive. Pass
Could be a woman!!😂👍
And people say Tesla's screen is a disruptive element
And they are right saying that because to look at Tesla ´s M3 screen you have to leave the sight to the road. With all other cars you look straightforward. The HUD is even better because you do not move your head away from the road.
@@patrickgass5707 So with all the arrows pointing and the light gliding from side to side is not disturbing? I have model 3 and look less at the screen than I do at the buttons and screen of my work car, Ford Connect.
@@EVPaddy Have it on auto, no problem. One press of the window wiper button if I want a little faster wiping. No need to look at the screen to do so.
@@EVPaddy Not faster, but can start the wipers before it happens automatically
@@wolfgangpreier9160 The ID4 has pedestrian detection and automatically brakes (I think is mandatory in all new cars), but as usage of HUD actually helps you to concentrate on the road. If you have trouble with it turn it off, or buy a Tesla. Fighter pilots use HUD's to see all important information
У меня в нид фо спид так же
Mistake in the matrix 7:58
What mistake? Do you mean the arrow pointing left? Maybe the car knows I'm the wrong lane.
@@bjornnyland I mean the black Model 3 :)
