I have no idea why, but at our local zoo, about 30 years ago, they would let the Cassowary birds wander around inside a building where people would be. One literally started a fight with me, I mean really tried to engage in combat, started pecking at me, pushing me, raised it's foot. I eventually got worried and actually hauled off and clocked the thing in the side of the head to get it away from me and my wife, knocked the prick right out. Naturally, I am the one who got in shit from the zoo authorities... "Hey he started it" was my defense, lol. They are jerks! (both Cassowaries and the zoo keeper, heheh. ;) )
