  • Hi everyone! This is the first in my series of my thru-hike of the Sheltowee Trace in June of 2020. I'm joined by my friend Samuel Janes of "Bluegrass Backcountry and Music".
In this episode, I start from the Southern Terminus (Burnt Mill Bridge) and make it to the Big South Fork of the Cumberland river, just past Harvey Branch. Day 1, Burnt Mill Bridge to Fall Branch 16.5 miles. Day 2, Fall Branch to the Big South Fork river (just past Harvey Branch) 18.25 miles.
The Sheltowee trace is Kentucky's long trail, spanning the Daniel Boone National forest, and runs nearly 350 miles. It starts at the Burnt Mill Bridge in Oneida, TN and ends north of Morehead, KY. The trace is named after Daniel Boone's Indian name "Sheltowee", meaning "big turtle".

Thanks buddy! I always struggle with the music for some odd reason, but it works out! I told Jeremiah that I believe the big south fork was my favorite part.

Nice work, trail bro!!! 🤙🏻 The music was on point, and I felt like I was getting to relive our days 1-2 in a completely new and unique way from your camera’s lens! Keep up the good work! P.s. that was a pale dude in laurel fork creek haha 🙈

also, can you camp anywhere along the trail or does it have to be a designated site?

    • @Smokeybeesnatural

You can camp anywhere. Daniel Boone National forest allows dispersed camping, as long as you follow rules about distances from water, cliffs and trails.

It was definitely an awesome experience. This main reason I filmed it was so I could go back and relive the moments. This is much better than looking at photos.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. In the 1st shakedown video I got the impression your were planning to go north to south. What was behind the decision to go south to north. Just curious. Best of luck!

With all of the shutdowns due to covid 19, I almost had to reschedule to the fall. The state started opening up, just after my original start date. In order to stay close to my original date and keep my planned vacation days, I had to switch directions to lineup state parks and forest areas as they reopened. Thanks for watching!
