I think this song also shows how fame affects troye as a person and his relationship. He chooses an entertainment clown as his alter persona to refer to his public image . @Anerdwithforeverloveforfood Troye suddenly moved to Australia without Jacob and he stated in his previous song that he felt there was nothing left for him in LA. So unless a boyfriend counts as 'nothing', I think they split up. Adults don't need shade when breaking up.
troye sivan is the only artist who accompanied me going through my sadness. his songs somehow instantly coping everything. i’ve been a fan of him since 2015 when my life was falling apart. troye sivan never disappoints.
I've never seen Troye Sivan getting that deep and expressive. It's wonderful to see he growing as an artist in every piece of work he releases. I'm growing as an human being as well. I'm on tears.

The way he looks at the fireplace is so “call me by your name” it breaks my heart. Someone get this boy on the soundtrack for the next cmbyn movie !! !!
Troye Sivan was the artist I listened to in 2015 when I was getting ready to come out. I was petrified to tell my family that I was gay because I felt that they wouldn’t love me. 5 years later I am in a relationship, living with my bf and came out to my parents. I am the happiest I’ve ever been and still have my family, friends and community that support me. ❤️😁
this song is a masterpiece. every song by troye is a masterpiece. i’ve been listening to him since i was in middle school and i don’t see myself ever stopping, his beautiful words and voice have eased (no pun intended lol) so much pain in my life and i hope one day i’ll be able to tell him that in person.
The song has that nostalgia feeling like you have listened during a very particular period of your life and the song has some attachment with that phase :)
There's actually some music science behind it. Apparently this synth sound produces that melancholic feeling. You feel nostalgic of a place or experience that you've never encountered in your life kinda.
I haven't been in any relationship but Troye makes me wanna explore all these feelings. Even the heartbreak. I love his music. Every song of his is amazing and meaningful. Thank you for it Troye :)
He says so much with his face. So many subtleties in this video. The faces he makes or the way his voice changes when he says certain things, like the bitterness in "you reap what you sew," or where his gaze drifts in each scene, or when he glances up. I'm curious about all the subtle symbolism, like the rabbit, the mirror breaking, the alcohol, him falling into the pool and even just the aesthetic/visual choices that complement the song but also give clues and add to the story. To me, it's all these little details that make this song and music video such a beautiful and successful work of art. This song is definitely about a strained relationship, but I think looking at each little piece separately opens up so many different possible stories. Like, it's easy to just jump to cheating, but I like exploring other ideas. Honestly, I feel like it could be a conversation with himself. However, I don't really care what the truth behind the lyrics is. Another beautiful work. Amazing as always, Troye.
It's the same for me ... I never found a song by Troye that I didn't like... It's just that the sound and lyrics he puts forward matches the background music of my mind... hehe...
Okay but how is no one else talking about how heartbreaking this song is? I LOVE it, and yet again, Troye does not disappoint by being super authentic and raw: clearly this is about his relationship being on the rocks and the song talks about being unfaithful and still being in love and trying to save a relationship and all I can think about is poor Troye at home in Australia during quarantine, wondering if his relationship is gonna survive?? like??? ugh boi i love you so much. Thank you for this song and for your authenticity and for being so unfailingly vulnerable EVERY time. You've saved my life and my heart goes out to you in this tough time
In the lyrics to the song, we find Troye Sivan lamenting over a love long gone, but not from his memory. The singer had to walk away from his relationship due to his partner walking away to find “freedom.” The singer was forced to move on… forced into someone else’s hands. Verse 1 The song starts off with the line that kicks off the snowball effect for the song. The singer’s partner leaving him behind to find something more “stable.” In response, the singer went “astray,” meaning he wandered away onto different motives. The singer says he found comfort in another man during this time and his pain from the ealier breakup was somewhat relieved through this. But, of course, Troye is not over his love yet. Chorus In the chorus, it seems that the singer’s lover has returned to their house. Troye Sivan cannot look into his eyes. It could be mostly because of the guilt from Sivan’s side due to his secret affair. Maybe the former lover walked in on them at their house. Troye is shedding tears of lava, burning through the wooden floor of the house. It’s the pain inside of his heart pouring out in the form of tears. Post-chorus In these lyrics, Troye is hear sobbing and begging his lover to stay with him. Verse 2 In the second verse, we hear Troye Sivan still getting beaten over the guilt of his “astray” journey. And our suspicion above is cleared when Troye sings “The stranger at home, my darling.” Troye’s lover walked in on Troye and his fling. The singer is utterly shocked, unable to muster any strength to speak a word to his lover. Troye’s only explanation for his unfaithfulness is that “he made it easy” while he was gone!
this is well thought-out! i especially like that you said "his lover" rather than "jacob" - it feels a little too personal to speculate about troye's actual relationships so i appreciated that you made it more objective :) cool theory!
I can guarantee you this won't disappoint. He's been one of my favourites since blue neighbourhood and Bloom's one of favourite albums of all time. Love you troye boi and proud to call him one of my inspirations for writing music. I wish I'll make a song with him one day💜
@@relishriley umm i found him out during blue neighbourhood since i started listening to English songs pretty late lmao. But since then he's one of my favourite songwriters because of his really vulnerable writing style and obviously his voice and the feeling with which delivers his performance be it in the studio version or live. Now things have changed after years since I've started writing songs inspired by Lauv and Troye recently so there's no looking back!❤i actually covered this song a few hours ago😂
Anyone else noticed that he sings "please don't leave me, leave me" In the first verse And "Please don't leave me, *don't* leave me" in the second one? For some reason this really made me sad, like he's getting more desperate
I think this song is about his feelings after his broke up with jacob.... i think from the lyrics "please dont leave me" troye still in love with jacob and didnt want jacob to leave him😢
this whole clip gave me call me by your name vibes the part troye is looking at the fireplace reminds me so much of the final scene of the movie and I think that’s beautiful
crying for (probably more than) 2 reasons: 1) the look in Troye's eyes when he says please don't leave me is so stark and vulnerable and it honestly feels like he's directly talking to a significant other. 2) if the rumours are true and Troye did cheat on Jacob, I'm imagining the pain Jacob must have felt from that, in addition to the hate comments and tweets I've been seeing float around in my timeline against Jacob. I just want to say that I absolutely adore Troye and really hope that these allegations of him cheating and tracob breaking up aren't true, however, if they are, please please please don't completely victimise Troye and attack Jacob... imagine how it would feel to be cheated on then bashed on the internet by your ex's fans... Please, everyone, remember these are real people and Jacob doesn't exist solely to be associated with Troye
@@gameryt48 no one really knows for sure as they are keeping everything very private (which is obviously their choice and probably a good one) but there have been rumors that they are broken up and this song is Troye's confession to cheating on Jacob due to the distance. A few people on Twitter have also gone ahead and started saying rude things to Jacob without even knowing what actually happened (because literally none of us to so we shouldn't jump to conclusions) and I just feel like that's really harmful.
I completely feel heartbroken for both and the hurt in troye's eyes makes me want to hug him and say it's going to be ok. I hope it's not true tho I love them both so so so so much.🥺🥺🥺🥺💖
I'm in awe at how stunning not only the video was but by how well Troye sang the song. The production is really on another level and this has got to be my favourite song this year! The raw emotions you hear and see in the vid gave me goosebumps and made me feel like I was the one feeling them (I'm sad now lol, but it's such a bop) . Thank you, Troye, for such a beautiful song, I hope you're doing well💜
Ok so here is my breakdown of the MV: Water is a symbol for emotions. The large bodies of water, which constantly appeared in almost every scene before red haired Troye, refers to his love for his partner. Water is there everywhere in the house and outside, taking the majority of the space, yet it is cold, still water, and Troye never touches it. It basically means that although the love is there, there is a certain disconnection between Troye and his feelings for his partner (and/or vice versa), which might stem from physical distance or a temporary break. The shadows also indicate the same thing. At 0:29 and 1:12, there is a shadow of someone in the room with Troye, but in the next scenes there is no sign of them. It can mean that that person is there physically but feels like just a shadow, or is not there physically next to Troye. Either way, this conveys a certain kind of distance, either emotionally or physically, or both. The only scenes before red haired Troye where the water isn't shown were when he is shown with a glass of alcohol. Alcohol is technically a liquid (water) but it is actually fire based on its characteristics. Alcohol enhances fire. We can see how in the first scene with the glass of alcohol (0:30), Troye seems to be tempted but is simply looking at it. Now, at the first hanging mirror scene (0:50), you can see Troye drinking for the first time. This implies that he is taking a small step towards the "fire", maybe a late night conversation on the phone with another person. In the same scene, you can indirectly see the fireplace flickering on the wall next to Troye. After sipping the alcohol (fiery liquid), Troye now starts to look at the actual burning fire. Still, he is just looking from afar, with a mirror hanging over his head. The mirror, according the fengshui, is the element water (both colourless, clear, and reflective). Again, water. This is basically their love, literally hanging by a thread. You get the idea. From 1:50, the wall looks like it is starting to melt (lines distorting), yet you don't see the fire at all, implying that the fire is only indirectly melting the house down. The mirror starts swaying too. This can be understood as even though nothing has really happened between Troye and the fire guy, Troye's partner still gets jealous and thus the house and mirror (their relationship and love) start to be affected. It keeps continuing (the melting and swaying), till the point that the mirror falls, break into pieces, and hurts Troye (2:12). This indicates a breakup. In the next scenes, we see Troye bleeding because of the mirror pieces (the fights, the shattered state of their feelings for each other, and the break up itself), him dancing in a seemingly intoxicated state (may refers to his current chaotic state of mind, or actual intoxication), and him getting close to the fireplace and look straight into it, tempted to touch. At 2:50, Troye is literally on fire, but he looks numb and empty, not reacting to the fire. It means Troye finally lets his feelings for this man grow rather than avoiding it, maybe even got together with the fire guy, but he does not feel much. Troye realizes he is still surrounded by water (means that his feelings for his ex remain), so he decides to fall into the pool, making contact with water for the first time (except when the mirror hurts him). Fire is, obviously, out. This time, he completely immerses himself in water. This, for me, is like when you go through a painful breakup, then get together with the next person in line, only to realize you are not yet over your past relationship. Falling into water here does not necessarily means the two got back together, but it means Troye finally could truly connect to his love for his ex again. He finally understands how grand and special it was, and how it could not be so easily replaced. He simply lets himself feel that love again, and beg his love not to leave him. (This next part I am not as certain) As for red hair Troye and the white rabbit, this seems to me that they are references to the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (I know Troye does not wear a hat here, but his hair colour, makeup, clothings, and facial expressions very much resemble the fictional character). In the original story, the Mad Hatter got sentenced to death by the Queen of Hearts for "murdering the time" (he drinks tea to kill time lol). I think the underlying implication of this image is that Mad Hatter Troye got accused by his lover (Queen of Hearts) of having not spent enough quality time together (murder the time). The white rabbit is also a time-related reference. White Rabbit is always running late. I feel like this may be how Troye feels, always running and trying to do what he is supposed to, or to fix things, but is always too late, which eventually leads to the final breakdown. On a side note, the song itself may or may not imply cheating. In case it is about cheating, it might be Troye's personal experience (which is none of our business) or inspired by another person's story. However, it may simply mean that the appearance of "He" in Troye's life (as a source of temptation/distraction without any kind of cheating occuring) made it easy for the break up to happen, because the relationship was already going south.
this is so good wow i saw the white rabbit and was like okay there's definitely a lot of symbolism here so thank you i would've never been able to unpack all that
Troye came back with his old brown hair but you can tell how far he's grown out his comfort zone, Bloom era was him coming out his shell and becoming a new start in himself. Easy is him coming back to his roots, but now a more confident, beautiful and blooming Troye that's not afraid to embrace more
I remember my excitement when “Happy Little Pill” was released & on repeat for what felt like forever. I can say that, years later, I still do that. I can’t stop listening to this! Troye is such a beautiful soul and I’ll forever love every. single. song. Sending so much love his way💕

I didn’t know there was an original. This is a masterpiece, I like it just as much as the remix with Kasey in a different way. So so good. Troy you’re genius
Some observations: The mirror falling and breaking behind him is possibly symbolic of a broken self-image? Also, there are two people sitting at the couch, the other person on the couch looks at Troy, and Troy looks longingly/curiously at the performer on the television, which almost makes me think that the 'he' in this song is someone famous/someone in the public eye.

@Anerdwithforeverloveforfood Troye suddenly moved to Australia without Jacob and he stated in his previous song that he felt there was nothing left for him in LA. So unless a boyfriend counts as 'nothing', I think they split up. Adults don't need shade when breaking up.

Hehe smart
This is the most awesome, beautiful and magnificent pun since "I can't Handel it"
How sweet and Clever
Thank for TAEHYUNG recommendations

Just discovered this song. I love it!
You've saved my life and my heart goes out to you in this tough time
who else got this heavy feeling in their throat and is so speechless that screaming the "whoo!" is just a sob?
just me? okay. masterpiece.
In the lyrics to the song, we find Troye Sivan lamenting over a love long gone, but not from his memory. The singer had to walk away from his relationship due to his partner walking away to find “freedom.” The singer was forced to move on… forced into someone else’s hands.
Verse 1
The song starts off with the line that kicks off the snowball effect for the song.
Chorus
In the chorus, it seems that the singer’s lover has returned to their house.
Post-chorus
In these lyrics, Troye is hear sobbing and begging his lover to stay with him.
Verse 2
In the second verse, we hear Troye Sivan still getting beaten over the guilt of his “astray” journey. And our suspicion above is cleared when Troye sings “The stranger at home, my darling.” Troye’s lover walked in on Troye and his fling. The singer is utterly shocked, unable to muster any strength to speak a word to his lover. Troye’s only explanation for his unfaithfulness is that “he made it easy” while he was gone!
out of all the theories ive read and ive read ALOT this makes the most sense to me thnx @Lucas George
this is well thought-out! i especially like that you said "his lover" rather than "jacob" - it feels a little too personal to speculate about troye's actual relationships so i appreciated that you made it more objective :) cool theory!

@@relishriley umm i found him out during blue neighbourhood since i started listening to English songs pretty late lmao. crying for (probably more than) 2 reasons:
1) the look in Troye's eyes when he says please don't leave me is so stark and vulnerable and it honestly feels like he's directly talking to a significant other.
Can I please know what happened between them??
@@gameryt48 no one really knows for sure as they are keeping everything very private (which is obviously their choice and probably a good one) but there have been rumors that they are broken up and this song is Troye's confession to cheating on Jacob due to the distance. A few people on Twitter have also gone ahead and started saying rude things to Jacob without even knowing what actually happened (because literally none of us to so we shouldn't jump to conclusions) and I just feel like that's really harmful.
I completely feel heartbroken for both and the hurt in troye's eyes makes me want to hug him and say it's going to be ok. I hope it's not true tho I love them both so so so so much.🥺🥺🥺🥺💖
So true..Jacob is an angel just like Troye..no one deserves hate.
So this song is Troye asking Jacob to not leave him? I'm not sure who is cheating on who & I am confuse.

.
Thank you, Troye, for such a beautiful song, I hope you're doing well💜
Ok so here is my breakdown of the MV:
Water is a symbol for emotions.
(This next part I am not as certain)
As for red hair Troye and the white rabbit, this seems to me that they are references to the Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland (I know Troye does not wear a hat here, but his hair colour, makeup, clothings, and facial expressions very much resemble the fictional character).

That hit way too hard. Those eyes were hiding so much pain.

Good observations
