I am really surprised you did not do the edge first, I think you would have finished in half the time if you had.
TEA
Have you tried Jiggy Puzzles?
Just a heads up to you and your subs…just found pieceworks puzzles at home goods Got a pix if you want me to email for sharing
are there puzzles that brake the cardinal rule of no flat peaces on the inside of the puzzle or even corner cuts but end up in the center ...now thats a challenge
Karen-you'll never guess what this is
Me- is it some sort of jigsaw puzzle?
😂
🤣
🤣
I'm glad she took your offer over others, because you actually appreciate it.
And I got to share it with all of you!
How do you know others wouldn't appreciate it?
@@TuberoseKisser the seller had a feeling others just want to resell the puzzle and earn money... where Karen actually had a collection and stuff
27:02 Wow that’s a lot of anvils, impressive! =]
I find it so touching that her mother loved puzzles and games and that it ended with someone who not only truly appreciates the value of the specific puzzle but genuinely enjoys puzzles as she did.
I also wanted to mention - I did get that mini Eaton puzzle from Mercari. And I just got a tip from a viewer with some amazing new info about the Challenge Cup puzzles. I'll make Shorts this week to cover all the new info, so keep an eye out!
I have a question about puzzles and I thought of @karenpuzzles I have a few disabilities. I like doing puzzles but it’s better if I have the “cheat” letters on the backs of the pieces. How do I find puzzles that have those?
So there is a Cola, and Hot Chocolate cup too? Wow!
Wow! How wonderful that you were able to get this tea puzzle! Like obviously you will appreciate it a lot, but also just the fact that there was no info about the puzzle online before, and now you have documented and shared it in high-quality detail. That is so valuable! So much of preserving all kinds of knowledge about culture and society through the ages is thanks to individuals like Karen who are passionate about their thing, however small. I just love that!
One small correction: There are actually a handful more of the Foxwood Tales mini puzzles on Worthpoint than I showed in the video. I don't know if these count as "official" Eaton puzzles, since the Eaton name doesn't appear on them and they were released right as the company was folding, but I'm adding them to my spreadsheet regardless. This will skew a few of those charts that I showed towards the end.
Those Foxwood tales puzzels are so flipping adorable. I am not really into vintage puzzles, but I would love to have those. They are probably above my budget thought 😅
Oh wow, I'm so glad they decided to sell it to someone passionate about puzzles rather than a likely reseller. That's really sweet, and also kind of you to try to match the highest bid x'D (Definitely worth it, I'm sure, haha.) But it's also super cool to see how much your channel adds to puzzling history too. Happy new year and best of luck at the competitions! :D
I got so nervous when your timer was 2:45, as if I really believed you were about to do 12 weirdly shaped brown pieces in under 15 seconds xD
Over the Winter Break I drank a lot of tea while working on the Karen’s Puzzles Puzzle. It took me a week to complete it and I finished it on Christmas Day!
I also gave my family customized Ravensburger puzzles for Christmas, two of which I got to help put together while visiting. They were so fun to put together as a family!
You should do a video on scam puzzles, like fakes of real brands, and how to tell the difference! Loving the videos!
I think it's wild I discovered this channel from the Try Guys and now I'm so invested in Karen's puzzle journey omg
same, lol :D
I found this channel via a beauty channel Lauren Mae beauty 😊
me too!
I am a "once a year" puzzler (usually done over the holidays), but when I recently came across your channel I have been binge watching...and you have inspired me! I have 3 Ravensburger puzzles on order. I might even graduate to doing "two a year"! 😃
Great work! Love your enthusiasm and very much appreciate the research and history you provide.
I know these research videos take a lot of time and energy, so thanks Karen. They are always so interesting. It's like a treasure hunt and I love going on the hunt with you.
I remember having a Sheaffer fountain pen when I was a teenager in the 70's. It used cartridges of ink, and my favourite was the peacock blue colour. Everything I wrote looked beautiful with that pen. It did have it's disadvantages though, the ink took awhile to dry, although you could blot it being very careful, so as not to smudge it, and I would inevitably and frequently have at least 3 fingers dyed peacock blue.
Fountain pens are still a thing. The market is...slightly smaller than it used to be.
My (current) favorite blue is Navajo Turquoise by Noodlers.
@@duckrutt , yes, I know.
I believe those were the standard pens we used in Catholic school in the late sixties and early seventies.
ME!!! I sent the Instagram message. I am glad you got it!!!!
I'm so happy to hear from you! Thank you so much for telling me about it!
Whirley Industries rabbit hole. 40 years ago, growing up, we had a cup shaped exactly like this with a cat's face on it. Cut to present day.... the cup is still in almost perfect condition except the cat is slightly faded. When I had my own kid, I looked up the cup's company because it was SUCH good quality. Turns out Whirley Inc is still in business but is now making cups for commercial use- fast food restaurants and such. I'm amazed to see this TEA cup tho. Same shape and color as the cat cup (as my sis and I still call it 40 years later)
I have quite a few vintage Eaton puzzles and most of them I have found at thrift stores, for around $2-4 each! I do have a handful that I bought on eBay when I found good deals. But if you have any thrift stores near you, it might be worth a shot. Plus “the hunt” for them, is fun in itself lol
Tea!
I'm a huge Good Mythical Morning fan, and they recently released a puzzle. Five hundred pieces and the image has a whole bunch of GMM references in a Where's Waldo-like drawing. I expected it to be incredibly difficult for me because I am *not* a puzzler. I've fully solved less than ten in my entire life, and that's not through lack of trying. I just end up rage-quitting the damn things.
But for some reason, the GMM puzzle just . . . meshed with my brain, and I solved the entire thing in about five hours. I'd love to see how long it would take you. I'd guess easily less than an hour and a half.
I have found an Eaton puzzle at the library's puzzle swap over the holidays. I'm in love with it, and I finally got to experience a vintage puzzle. I got Eaton You Scream, I Scream puzzle
Update: I have acquired a vintage Springbok and a mystery Smithsonian puzzle by American Publishing company. I'm giddy with excitement
For Christmas, my aunt gave my brother a puzzle that had several children's book titles on it. He decided to put it together without looking at the box! It made for an interesting challenge and one that he accomplished in about 3 days. My mom and I helped, and she loves to drink TEA!! Hope you had a great holiday season!! Love your videos!!
I'm not a super puzzler, but I swear I've seen that challenge cup top before. I may have to do some snooping at my Dad's house when Easter rolls around. My sisters will probably be suspicious if I start rummaging around in the attic though.
Do it! Please let me know if you find one up there!
It's Easter Sunday! Did you do your attic rummage?
Normally I’d say “Eh, Minnesota winter isn’t so bad.” But this has been a particularly brutal one. That being said, the St. Paul Winter Carnival is amazing!
Thanks for spilling the tea on your newly acquired rare puzzle 💜
I brought myself a wooden jigsaw and did it with my 7 year old grandson. It was actually quite difficult but lots of fun with different shaped animal pieces.
I am always buying jigsaw puzzles from 2nd hand shops and have a very nice collection mostly with all the pieces intact. Love your channel
Happy New Year! Great video! I am very glad the seller chose you, as you 1,000% appreciate this unique puzzle and can share about it on your channel. I would not have wanted it to go to a reseller to just make a profit off of it. I'm sure whoever sold it to you, if she watches your video, will enjoy seeing you put her mother's puzzle together. 😊 What a Treasure. I'm thrilled for you!
I've never been a huge fan of hot tea but being from the south i was raised on iced tea 🙂. What a wonderful story about how you acquired the puzzle. It's a lovely way to keep the memory of her mother's love for puzzles alive. That puzzle couldn't have gone to a more deserving collector.
My great grandma is a puzzler and told me she had one and ever since I’ve wanted one, I’m so glad you got it cause you are so awesome and amazing at puzzles.
Ok, I’lm gonna spill the “tea”. I was on a puzzle hiatus when I found your channel a couple months ago. I watched A LOT of your videos and the puzzle itch was back!
I was gifted a Ravensburger 5000 piece for Christmas after I started puzzling again, and got myself several puzzles for my bday last week. I even bought a vintage Springbok at a thrift shop!
Over the Holidays I completed the 5000 Space Odyssey, Piecework Bread Head, and a couple of Ceaco and Buffalo puzzles.
I remember the Holly Hobby doodle puzzles! I say puzzleS because I'm pretty sure there was more than one -- think maybe there were 3 or 4 choices? They sat on the countertop at stationery/gift shops, amidst all of the Holly Hobby scratch-n-sniff stickers and stationery and pen sets. I was a teenager in the 70s, and Holly Hobby was more for children, but I have a vague memory of my younger sister being given one of those puzzles as a gift.
My 10 year old daughter and I did a cat in space on a piece of pizza shooting layers from its eyes puzzle. It was a recent thrift store find. We found it to be surprisingly hard for a 500 piece puzzle. I enjoyed your tea puzzle review.
I found 4 puzzles in one box at the dollar store for 5 dollars. One was pizzas…it was 750 and hard (took the longest). There was a sandy beach overview of beach umbrellas and people. 1000 piece and had it put together in less than a day. In that same box was a puzzle of different coffee and tea cups 500, and lastly for the $5 was a window pane of different pooches with different backgrounds. Three of these were put together in as many days, but that pizza puzzle took me a week.
Welcome back, Karen! I
don't like 'tea' but I LOVE
MINI puzzles! I finished
1 mini wood puzzle every
day for the holidays! 20
in total 😱 Costco teamed
up with Dowdle to offer 4
packs and I got them ALL!
Happy 2023!!! ~Mikio ☺️
TEA!!!☕️🫖 I got and gifted Ravensburger puzzle from and with my 81 year old Mum! Winter in 🇨🇦is long and cold so we both spend time puzzling away! I did find a Cobble Hill brand puzzle series of each of the seasons that I absolutely LOVE. I will be collecting those for sure. My mum does 300/500 piece and I do 1000. I think next year I’ll be trying 1500 pieces! 🎉
Not sure why YT recommended your video, but it's always interesting to see how different people solves puzzles
I worked on a cobble hill puzzle over the holidays and this puzzle was unique because it had large, medium and small pieces. It also had different shaped pieces and false edge pieces as well. It was very fun to put together.
I love those.
I love how much work you put into these videos, I would’ve given up halfway honestly 😂
I’m also a puzzle collector but you unlocked a whole new section of my brain!! I’m now collecting vintage puzzles because of you! Love your videos!!
Hi Karen,
Rutager from MN here! Yes, we get lots of cold and snow, but we get to go skiing and of course winter time is a great time to do puzzles. I found your channel a few months ago and am now on my third puzzle and it has turned out to be tougher than I thought. I bought your puzzle as well, but I'm saving that for next winter when hopefully my skills have improved.
Good luck in the competition,
Rutager
I was eating when the timer began and didn’t realize until after you finished that I’d stopped to watch with bated breath for your time 😂 apparently watching you speed puzzle is my Olympics
Luckily this one was only 3 minutes and not hours long!
WOW! So cool!!!!!!! Happy New Year Karen!! I'm so glad you got to start off the new year with an easy Tea puzzle!!! I love that you found this small rare one for your collection! If you ever get involved with, start, or run a puzzle museum one day I would LOVE to go visit!
Happy new year to you too! A nice find for you and I hope you can get others that are rare as well.
I actually drank lots of tea over Christmas holidays. I got a Beatles puzzle by Ravensburger, a Charlie Brown puzzle and a seascape one for Christmas plus about 20 puzzles from a coworker as a hand me down. I also did a 1000 pc Star Trek puzzle, a 1000 pc Michigan puzzle and a 550 piece Noah’s ark puzzle. I’m currently halfway done with the Charlie Brown puzzle. Watching you do the tea puzzle was so stressful but fun!
OMG- you are coming to my neck of the woods!!
Right now we are unusually warm!
The cold is good for you!
Good Luck!
I worked the Blue Kazoo Moon puzzle with many a cup of tea!
I'll definitely be on the lookout for Eaton puzzles from now on, I love how high quality they used to be! I love a good cup of coffee or tea 🧩 wish these puzzles weren't so rare!
Discovered your channel recently and I love the positive energy you emanate!
I’m so glad the seller trusted you with her mom’s memory ❤️
Happy New Year Karen! You always bring joy with your videos! I drink a lot of tea this winter and I have done 9 puzzles since Christmas. 😃
Your charts and graphs and spreadsheets make my heart sooo happy! 😂❤️ new subscriber, what a cool channel!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Glad you're back!! I'm from Brazil and I love watching your videos! I got a round gradient puzzle for Christmas and it was so fun to do!
Happy New Year! I’m sure that one day you’ll be able to interview an old Eaton employee that will spill the tea about the rare puzzles! Looking forward to seeing the coming competition videos! Good luck! ❤🎉
I'm so glad I discovered your channel at the end of last year. I used to love puzzles and now I'm starting to love them again! I got just a puzzle for christmas, the cloudberry's chromatic. I'm currently doing it with my mom.
TEA!! Good luck at your competitions! Looking forward to the updates.
I got a couple fancy wooden puzzles this year, smaller pieces counts then I'm used to, but quite a different experience compared to a regular puzzle.
What a fun and interesting video to start the year with! I'm a new subscriber (for maybe 2 weeks) and I think I've watched almost every single video on the channel so I was happy to see a new one! 😊
I love the tea puzzle! Since starting to watch your videos, you've really inspired me to do even more puzzles! I've even picked up a puzzle again that I've quit 3 times before (it has a lot of black). I got a beautiful wrendale designs puzzle this Christmas, with beautiful animal illustrations!
KAREN! I completely binge watched your videos over Christmas and I have been so excited for a new video. Your enthusiasm and genuine joy is so wonderful to watch. Thanks for making such great content!!
Mercari is a legitimate selling platform. I have sold many things on that site. You got me back into puzzles, I have always enjoyed puzzling but haven't done it in a long while. So thank you very much.
Tea! Happy New Year Karen, and nice to see you back with a new video :) During the holidays I started the 24000 piece life puzzle. It's such a fun puzzle to work on, and I really had to try it after seeing your videos. The first part is almost finished and I hope to complete all four parts by the end of the year. I hope that you will finish and record another giant puzzle, then I probably know what my project will be for next year :) Best wishes from the Netherlands!
My local book store carried this brand when I was a tween . I couldn’t believe when you showed the doodle puzzles. I had those and loved them. We also had the ice cream sundae puzzle you show late in the video. So enjoyable! Thanks for the deep dive!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! So nice to see a video from you again. Hope you’re well and a big and hello to everyone at home!
Happy New Year to you too!
I've been waiting for a new video since new years, so exciting to have you back Karen🩷
Thank you for the tea on Eaton puzzles. You’ve really renewed my interests in puzzles. I completed a puzzle over the holidays with my daughter and her boyfriend. I haven’t done a puzzle in about years. Thank you
I was so stressed when the timer hit two minutes! More exciting than the NFL playoffs happening right now. Time for a cup of TEA.
I love your videos especially when I can’t puzzle but I just went down a rabbit hole of Eaton puzzles on eBay and oh my the vintage is so beautiful!
having some milk tea while watching this video, how fitting lol i worked w my dad on a 1000 piece istanbul puzzle during the holidays - i'm still working on the sky lol but i'm getting close! and i also received van gogh's café terrace at night by ravensburger as a christmas present - really excited to tackle that one~
Congratulations on acquiring that rare puzzle. Good to hear that the seller wished it to go to someone who was passionate about jigsaw puzzles and would take good care of it. No doubt you had a mug/cup of tea to celebrate! I'm always doing jigsaw puzzles but a couple I did around Christmas were Nativity Play by Wentworth and a 1983 circular puzzle called Wild Orchids. I'm somewhat belatedly just finishing doing a Chad Valley jigsaw called Victorian Carol Singers. I forgot I had it amongst the many I have waiting to be done! One I am looking forward to doing is the Geometric puzzle by Keycraft, 500 pieces. Sort of black spiral with gradient colours in between, going down into a vanishing point.
I'm in a state of flux with my housing so no puzzles for me, but I bought a custom Ravensburger puzzle for a close friend, thanks to you telling us about them, and I helped them assemble a different puzzle their son bought them.
Love the TEA puzzle. So happy she sold it to you! Thank you for sharing. I got your Karen Puzzle for my birthday and look forward to completing soon.
Just love your enthusiasm ! As a new jigsaw puzzle fan I find you just a gem. The cup container and scorecard is a creative design treasure. Yes, the scorecard was prescient, and such interesting history.
Fun video. I found you thru your youtube crafting videos. Karen, you are so fun to watch. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you for TEAsing us with another delightful video 😃
I’m so excited that you be coming here to snowy Minnesota! I can wait to come watch you compete! Over the holidays I was working on your puzzle and can’t wait for more to be released.
Thanks for sharing the *tea*! For Christmas, I got the beautiful "Isle Royale" puzzle from the Pomegranate ArtPiece line. I am so excited for a new year of puzzling!
to translate the business jargon section: it sounds to me like two employees or directors of eaton shaeffer got a bunch of outside investment to make their own separate holding company *specifically* in order to buy eaton shaeffer back from their parent company, textron. often when there’s a holding company with the same directors as the only company it owns then it’s to make the subsidiary easier to sell or buy. it could have been due to a dispute with the parent company, or they could have been told they were going to be shut down or sold and wanted to remain in charge, or they could have just (mistakenly) thought it was a good investment and good time to buy
Karen says to check your grandparents cupboards for the cup, then drops the published year and it's the year I was born... ouch 😆
Haha maybe that’s not quite right then 😅
The winter weather holidays are when I like to do puzzles and tomorrow is snowy in Colorado so I know what I’ll be doing! I did about 4 since I found your channel recently and my favorite is a houseplant 1000 piece and I now recognize all the plants from the puzzle in tv show sets - I even bought my own houseplants to try to keep alive!!
You know Karen, I've always enjoyed puzzling, but watching your channel definitely brought back my love and urge to puzzle and over the holidays I legit did at least 10 (all easy and 550 or less) puzzles. Even bought some puzzles, but the last ones are too big for my desk space so I haven't done them.
Happy New Year! Glad the person decided to sell it to someone who loves puzzles. Hot tea in MN should warm you up.
My holiday puzzle was the Jungle Book section of Memorable Disney. Just finished it yesterday.
I always enjoy seeing new videos from you, rather than most people's because I know I'm almost always going to have a relaxing 20 plus minutes of kindness and joy for a brief part of the day.
So Glad that you got the TEA puzzle and can keep it in your collection! We love puzzles in our house, even my 92 yr old mom loves them. We love puzzles by Jan van Haasteren, and have several and keep getting more. So glad you are coming to the frozen tundra of Minnesota. :) I didn't know that the Winter Carnival had a puzzle competition. Good luck, we will be rooting for you and your team! Cathy
Karen, hearing you mention Sheaffer cartridge pens reminded be of my high school days 1964-1968. Those pens were so cool, my favorite ink was turquoise! 😊❤
Hi Karen! Glad you're back. Ebay has an Eaton puzzle from 1971 called "White Man's World" on auction. It looks like something you would like
Yes, a lot of them are on Ebay! I just have to be mindful of my budget and storage space for a while 😅
I screamed, "KAREN, LET'S GO!!!" while you were assembling it. I don;t know why but i got so hyped.
Your happiness is contagious. 😊 I am always so excited and happy to watch your videos. ❤️🧩
Ohhh it looks so cool, I never knew this type of puzzle existed
Hi Karen thanks for the wonderful tea puzzle. I came across an Eaton puzzle in December never opened and 500 chocolate puzzle. Being the chocoholic and puzzler that I am I did the puzzle and it was so fun. Glad to be hearing more about Eaton puzzles. I too was fascinated by the small company🤓
Tea! Over the holidays I unexpectedly very intensely enjoyed The World of Frankenstein puzzle, by Adam Simpson, way more than I would have ever imagined. We had done the Shakespeare one the year before but this one was really satisfying, listening to a good audiobook of Frankenstein and slowly constructing the puzzle as almost like piecing together parts of a creature and a story to bring the whole book to life (of course we never look at the picture of the image when we do a puzzle, no more than we would read the last chapter of a book before the rest). There were so many brilliantly placed similarities in shapes and content to make it more interesting and challenging, really facilitated so many satisfyingly dynamic joinings and reveals. Loved it! So good
Hi Karen, I really look forward to your videos. I don't know why it is so calming and satisfying to see you solve each one. You are like the Bob Ross of the puzzle world - without the big hair and like him you bring peace and order to this crazy world as you order the pieces. Keep up the great work.
I like your tea puzzle! I did a Twisted Puzzle between Christmas and New Years. I’m part way on a Mackinac Bridge puzzle now. I do online puzzles every day. I love your videos. ❤️
Awesome video and glad you got your TEA puzzle. Can't wait to see what happens at the competitions!
You are still a genius in our hearts! My parents got me the Ravensburger Three Caballeros puzzle for Christmas so I had to quickly finish the puzzle I had just started so I could build that one. It was perfect ❤
Thanks for documenting this history!
Believe me i knew what it was before you unwrapped it! 🧩❤ Awesome upload Karen! Vintage videos are my favorites!
Happy New Year! I hope it brings us a lot of nice things=)This is so cool. Thank you for sharing=)
I'm so glad the seller sold it to someone who loves puzzles! What a cool puzzle! I've always been drawn to puzzles with tea themes. Here's to hoping you get the coffee puzzle soon too!
Christmas helped me grow my puzzle collection quite a bit, including my first ever Cloudberries and Piecework puzzles which is awesome!
Way to spill the tea in your fist video of the year… my wife and I just finished a Springbok Majestic series wood puzzle. It was fun however it took almost ten minutes just to take it apart! Love your videos. Thanks for sharing!
Woaw... Sitting and sipping my coffee, not tea... How refreshing to watch the first video of you this year with so much energy and refreshing news about jigsaw puzzles... Enjoyed it alot, so, very good work...
That was such an interesting dive! I did 2 Where's Waldo puzzles in the last couple of weeks. One was significantly harder than the other but both were so fun.
I feel your joy Karen, loved that story ❤️
So glad you're back from break!! I missed the puzzle videos. Hilariously, I actually was not a big puzzler myself, hadn't touched a jigsaw puzzle in a long time, so I don't have any of my own and I'm not really looking to gain more things that I'd have to store somewhere, but! My local library has a puzzle collection, so I've recently started working through what puzzles there catch my eye! I've done a 750 piece fantasy illustration, a 500 piece puzzle of the national park posters, and a 500 piece of an aurora with a rainbow gradient put on it so far - I have a 500 piece of a japanese nature illustration waiting on me right now!
It was fun watching you do the Tea Puzzle! You were very nearly genius :)
I bought myself the Ravensburger Gnome Grown 1000 piece Puzzle. Love it!
Great to have you back at work.
