FYI: Make sure to use refractory cement. When exposed directly to high amounts of heat, the moisture trapped inside regular concrete can expand and cause the concrete to crack and in extreme situations, explode.

I d make a circular cement tray to catch the ashes with a lip all the way around the edge of the tray. Ashes falling below can blow away and start a fire easily.

You should add a sliding tray or something underneath to collect the ash. That way you can pull it out and discard the ashes after the tray fills up. What do you think?
Not explosive but it carry's a short life cement cracks and it breaks into pieces when heated so the idea is good but material used is not best for that
I made a fire Rick pizza oven a few years ago. I added lime and silica sand to the cement mortar for the bricks to make it heat tolerable. I bet you could do the same for these. also, using fire bricks instead of regular bricks would give it a longer life.
