Am I the only person who thinks that Chris seems to really try to fail at Mega Man in this episode?
Not only are some of the deaths just hilarious, Chris even played with cheats on! Mega Man clearly super jumps and has invincibility enabled on some of the gameplay footage.
***** I've noticed it too but it doesn't matter. I know for a fact that the megaman game series on the NES was really hard. Some reasons are because the bad game design choices the devs made and the intricate level design. A lot was made to make you memorize some sections of it so 1 single mistake would cost you you're life. He did go in a summary why the levels were this way but he didn't go through it completely. Perhaps this is why a lot of people here hate his "review".
The first Mega Man is really hard, 2-4 have hard moments but are easier on the whole, 5 and 6 are just straight up easy.
But Chris Bores being bad at videogames is nothing new.

@@RoninCatholic And then you have the amazing Megaman fangames. Unlimited is super hard. Rock Force is medium. SFR is a little harder. Rock N Roll is Medium-Hard. Eternal is hard and Dr Wilys Final Attack is easy-normal.

Check out around 4:00 while he's jumping during the Gutsman stage. I don't recall Megaman being able to jump THAT high? Feeling a little moddy? Hackey? Emulate-y?

No mention of the yellow devil. Toughest boss in the game especially without using the glitch trick.
I was shocked too, but in fairness, the Mega Man clone IS harder. Yellow Devil is only tough before you learn his pattern, the Mega Man clone HAS NO PATTERN and of course, has contact damage where you don't.
I beat shadow devil in mega man X5 & pretty similar yellow devil In Mega man For NES

I disagree with reviewing a game if you can't win legitimately.
Emulators are fine if you are still playing the game the way it was intended to be played. But if you got to have infinite health cheats or higher jump cheats on just to finish the game, then you shouldn't be reviewing that game.

I don't often post on youtube but I thought I'd let you know that I've been really loving this season. I think it's awesome that you not even the classics are excluded from your reviews, even the best games have their flaws. Keep up the great work, I'll certainly keep watching.
I'm really liking the choice of games you've been reviewing, nice to see that they are not the typical "bad" games you've reviewed in previous seasons.

you're using cheats, aren't you? your jump height at 4:00 was heightened and after that point you stop taking damage from enemies. you also cut the game's frame to hide the fact that you weren't taking damage a couple of times.

People might that mega man 1 is hard, but that doesn't mean he should be using cheats in a review. He should be using cheats when they can't get pass a part of the game, and they use cheats either from the game itself from input a code or external sources to see what the rest of the game is like, and don't lie about it so you can keep your pride, you used cheats, admit to it.
Good review for the most part IG. If you could bring back the storylines and support characters again that would be cool, I think that may be what some of your newer episodes are missing. It was fun seeing a continuing story line and the various characters that were developed showing up here and there. Keep it up and glad to see your reviews are back again.

Overall, I thought it was an entertaining review.
Even if some of the deaths are on purpose I still feel the frustration of those jumps in Gutsman's stage. I find this game harder than Mega Man 3 these days but that's probably because of multiple playthroughs and me being more familiar with 3 overall. "Nintendo-Hard" indeed.
I remember, in the early days, some hater making a mock video of IG reviewing this game and doing it facepalmingly badly. Good to see IG do it for real and do it WELL.
By the way Chris, on the stage select screen, I noticed the robot masters' sprites got a little jittery at times. What did you use to record this? If you have the money, you should consider getting a XRGB-mini Framemeister and an RGB modded NES if you don't already. I just got a modded NES in the mail right before this video went up, so I'll tell you how well it worked later!

My old NES...won't even turn on anymore, and I'm done with jiggling the damn cart to get the right connection. And I just love the top loader all over, and the mods make it better. The Super Retro Trio is good too; carts go in and out real easy, no mangled sound, and everything but Castlevania III runs smooth.
I still love classic mega man games & Mega man X series & mega man Zero series & mega man battle network series

Gutsman moving platforms is probably the hardest in the series. Always hated the disappearing blocks stages. Luckily in later games they added Rush and Jet rush which could be to jump or flyover disappearing blocks or hard areas.
Dude, Mega Man was so awesome. They absolutely knocked it out of the park with being able to acquire different elements from bosses.

Good stuff. Mega Man is the king of the "Great game, stupid hard" category along with Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. Mega Man: Powered Up on the PSP is a super adorable remake that dials down the difficulty and turns up the cute factor. It's worth a playthrough.

I gotta say, I've been subbed to you for a few years now back when people used to try to say you were just a AVGN ripoff. Honestly I haven't watched your videos in quite a while since you started branching out with new content I wasn't interested in (yeah I'm a bad subber but whatever). However today I thought I'd try watching a new video of yours and I have to say I really like what you do. It's quirky, nostalgic, and very fun. I have to say I really like that you seemed to have stopped using the more strict language to keep it at bit more kid friendly, always appreciate that.

Love it! Mega Man was my favorite and my most hated game growing up. Still never beat part 1.
Since he mentioned that he enjoyed playing the NES game "Metroid" in his Top 5 NES Games video, I'm hoping that he could do a review on that game or any games in the entire franchise and possibly explain some of the story behind the franchise as well.

Those flying heads are the worst, because their movement is apparently random. There is no patter to follow and it is possible it takes forever until they take you where you need to go.

i always remember this game being very difficult growing up. i found megaman 2 and 3 to be challenging but possible. 1 was just insanely hard. and its funny i never see it really on anyones hard list of nes games. but i always see contra up there which i found easy. strange how that works

You forgot to mention trick with electro-man's weapon where you can score multiple hits with one shot. (Repeatedly pause the game when the enemy is hit with that weapon.) Once you know that trick, the MM1 the bosses are all easy.

+BelialHedgehog You can tell he's using Game Genie because sometimes when he gets hit, he doesn't take damage, and a lot of the music has some weird chirps and glitches that are actually caused by Game Genie in Megaman 1 and 2.

Great video as always....but I never got why gamer reviewers like Chris and James find it nescessary to destroy their own things? In this video Chris destroys a poster, in Zelda II James punches a poster which rips one of the corners off, plus in numerous episodes he actually destroys the game itself.

Shao Kahn Every time someone destroys a game, a poster, or any other kind od possession, I cry inside. Whether a game that deserves to be destroyed, and whether it gets destroyed in a "relevant way" or not, you still spent money on it. Waste of money to destroy it. Plus, in one AVGN episode James states that he is "pretty close to own just about every NES game released", well that list is gonna decrease if he keeps destroying them.
