I'm doing so good on my ride ing and I'm doing will real good on my horse and I have a horse training and she is helping me how to ride better and I'm doing good on my horse and I like your videos that you do on your horse and on your ride ing your horse and I like watch ing your videos it will help me Nannette
We're just at training level, and working this more at the trot, but the whole concept is great. We're doing so much better since completing the Training Scale Masterclass last year so really looking forward to a couple of schooling shows (all there is here) this summer. Along with Working EQ clinic! Yay!
Hi Amelia and team. Another great video. Thanku. You mentioned shoulder fore a few times. I have been wondering could you please explain shoulder fore or if you have a video I am unable to find it. Why and how do you use it, what is the difference to shoulder in? I am a visual learner so hope there’s a video. Thanku, you are a gem! Vick from Oz.
Loved the video but especially about using the mane as an indicator. What do you use as an indicator on a horse with a roached mane as is breed standard for Norwegian fjords?
I would say that depends on the 5 year old and when they were started/how much under saddle time they've had. Go by the dressage levels. Can you do everything in training easily? Yes, then you can start on 1st (leg-yields and lengthenings, etc). Hope that helps!
What if they brake into the trot? My horse will do only one circle or two and then she breaks. Do I immediately ask for canter or trot for a bit and then ask?
Go back to half-halt work and do lengthening excersizes in the trot to school them first; then when the trot half-halt is more established come back to the canter. Important thing to remember too is that lengthening should be done incrementially. Go just enough forward, then back. Don't let the forward get too big. Then when you have that adjustability there, then try for a little more lengthen. It can take time! Adding 15m circles to come back after a lengthening can also help with the half-halts (like in the 1st level tests). Hope that helps!
At 6 minutes and 57 seconds into the video, you said ". . . collect and then leg uphill LEAN UP forward bigger, forward, bigger, forward...' What do you mean by that 'Lean up' part"
Using the mane as your indicator! Makes it so much easier to gauge then just "feel it". Great video! Thank you!
You're welcome, glad it helped!
Hi from England. You make the training exercises so easy to understand I’m hooked on your videos
Amazing lesson. Thank you Amelia

Thanks Amelia. Enjoyed video. Great learning instruction for me.
What timing! I'm just doing Mach 3 in first level. Need to refine it!
So helpful! I’m in Mauritius and we are aiming to start second level this season.
I was just working on this with my coach last night! I'm showing First Level this year with my QH Paint! I'm super excited!
I made a free mini course on showing. Go here to get a copy amelianewcombdressage.com/free-competition-pdf-a/
Love this video, and I can't wait to use the mane. First Level here we come! Thank you!
Yay! Awesome!! Good luck!!
I bought that awesome jacket on your website! So excited to get it. I can't wait to see my trainer's reaction when she sees it.
I hope to show, but none scheduled in my area yet. Hope to show at second.
yay! Can't wait to hear what she says :)
Really nice video. You taught the lesson well. I enjoyed it.

I have just the video for you! ua-cam.com/video/4_M1Vi0e9uM/v-deo.html
Can you do a close up of what a half halt looks like?
Hey D. This video should help! ua-cam.com/video/9M03W7LV41Y/v-deo.html
Good
Sign up for out show season webinar!
So good last video
Thank you!
Loved the video but especially about using the mane as an indicator. What do you use as an indicator on a horse with a roached mane as is breed standard for Norwegian fjords?
When you hips are at the back of the saddle during the canter movement.
Since half halt is seat then leg then hand , when you are saying half what muscles/action are you using?
Oblique abs and glute mead
Hi Amelia. What’s the reason for the double bridle bit?
Finesse and the ability to be subtle. Not to be used for strength. Hope that helps.
Heyy Amelia! Thanks so much for this video!
How do I not bounce in sitting trot?? ♥️♥️♥️
Good question! I have a free rider position webinar that will be covering that, I think you'd like it. Check it out bit.ly/3LqMFLX
Again late to this party but so so useful
Can U do this with a 5 year old or is this for more advanced horses.
Immediately ask for canter again if she breaks.
What do you do if a horse just runs and gets super strong in the canter lengthening?
Go back to half-halt work and do lengthening excersizes in the trot to school them first; then when the trot half-halt is more established come back to the canter. Important thing to remember too is that lengthening should be done incrementially. Go just enough forward, then back. Don't let the forward get too big. 😍😍
Great video, as always. So the medium canter should have more jump in it compared to the lengthening?
Yes exactly!
What do you do with your body when you want to do the slowest canter? Do you grip yourself with the knees on the saddle?
At 6 minutes and 57 seconds into the video, you said ". . . collect and then leg uphill LEAN UP forward bigger, forward, bigger, forward...' What do you mean by that 'Lean up' part"
"Sit up" might have been a better way to say that (sometimes it's hard in the moment). Basically to stretch tall and upwards.
