There were many US Regiments that wore frock coats and Hardee hats, and even a couple of CS Regiments that started the war in this uniform. The frock coat and Hardee hat is the official uniform of US Regular army and some USCT Regiments as well.
I got to say I have never really been too interested in Civil War or Napoleonic wargaming but maybe it's the smaller scale but I might have to look into this eventually. Also, the mention that they have Zouave regiments pretty much sold me, as my friend and I have talked about getting Zouave uniforms for reenacting, they just look so sharp! Looking forward to seeing some battle-reports on this!
You would only need 4 really because the 24th Michigan wore kepis since they joined the brigade later. There were plenty of regiments that wore frock coats and Hardee hats, especially earlier in the war.
I picked up the start set but haven't started painting/building yet (promised myself to finish up my Bolt Action grenadiers first). I was thinking that one could put a single rank on a stand for painting with the second rank on a popsicle stick or whatever. That would allow you to play with the partially assembled army while you take a lifetime to work through the minis. :P
I guess that's one good thing GW did with it's prices. It helps justify almost any other gaming purchase with the " Yeah but I would be spending so much more on GW"
I did mention this in the video. However if you go with 3 stand regiments you would theoretically have enough but would have to jury rig a couple of custom Command stands.
Aside from the sculpts in and of themselves, what is the difference between this set and say, the regular Union Brigade box set they do? I ask as from what I can tell, the latter has the same number of infantry models, but also has artillery and commander models wheras this doesn't and yet this is nearly double the price? These are very nice, no doubt, but seems a bit of a steep difference to pay to get less stuff and in (subjective opinion of course, but then so is aesthetics) an inferior material for miniatures. Do look nice mind, just not sure *that* nice for me!
Just use a rifle as your flag pole. You don't have a drummer, but they're so small, you have to look to notice. Brigades of 3 look so much better and make more sense when you half all your measurements.
I do, it's been a while since we covered it though. Here's the AMGAS playlist for our Gaslands content. ua-cam.com/play/PLPiObKGFR7NIn-5yzngQVh2P7KR-dUD59.html

The 2nd Wisconsin held on to there dark blue trousers up to just before Gettysburg.
Great review, looking forward to mine arriving.
US regulars would have worn uniforms just like the Iron Brigade
Thanks for the great unboxing :) I always assumed these would be resin

Lol man... I used to play 40k... this box costs the same as a 3 man unit I once bought. That's why I'm here. Thanks for the video!

thank you
Great video, really informative and useful. I’ve subscribed 👍
Thanks for the sub!
Why would they not sell you all the regiments of the brigade in one box!?!
Actually Brawner’s Farm was there epic fight.
Could you paint these up as the Confederate Texan Brigade? (and still be reasonably historically accurate).
Heresy wait for the Texas brigade box don't defile my boys of the iron brigade
so you need two boxes to do the Bridge.

Very cool looking. Is Jake playing Confederates? Looking forward to seeing a game in the future.
Not sure just yet. I think regardless I will be painting up both sides.
