Maria, I fell in love with your paintings. The colors are so bright. It gives me a feeling of well being when I see your works ! Those with water touch me even more. Never stop painting, you are so talented ! 😊
Trying to find vids to learn more about watercolor since I'm still a beginner, then found yours. And your channel is great! You indicate the colors you use which makes it easier for people like me who doesn't know much about colors and their difference yet. And the songs you add even makes it more relaxing! 💕👏🏻 such an inspiration, definitely subscribed immediately! 😁
That's really nice what you wrote, thank you Jacey, I'm here to help you and really happy I can inspire and you can learn from me. I'm trying to make my videos as informative as possible. :)
Maria you layer watercolour better than anyone else I have seen , why does it not go muddy as it does when I try ? other than just the colours can you say what make of paint you use ? also the different papers . awesome once again
Thank you so much Hector! You know when I watch myself paint on these videos I can see that I jump around all over the painting, start with the sky then go to the bottom, then rocks etc, I think this is how I allow the paint to dry a little bit in those areas before going back to them again, so they are not dry all the way, just right when it's about to and that's when I add another layer, other than that paper is super important. My favorite paper and that I mostly use is hot press 100% cotton, 140lb, but it's the smoothest and whitest you can find. I don't disclose the name brands on my channel right now so if you don't mind emailing me directly and I'm happy to give you all the info :) maria@loveriginals.com Thanks Hector!
You have no idea how much your channel inspires me thank you so much for your beautiful painting videos I love them! I do have a request, I would love it if you did a underwater painting of an otter! Also what paint do you use?
Hi Gerri, thanks a lot, I truly love 300lb I think much more comparing to 90lb or 140lb, it's a bit more costly tho... I usually paint from my own photos, imagination or if I see photos somewhere else I will put few together to make it look like this cave :)
How do you decide Hot vs Cold or Rough? I don't have much experience but have noticed some differences, Hot can show more details for example. I was curious about your reasons for one or another. Thanks.
Hi Stephen, I choose my paper based on what I am going to paint. Hot Pressed is the smoothest of all watercolor papers, so I choose it when I want to work more on details, just like you said, I like the smoothness of the paper, it helps to bring the vibrancy of colors, then cold pressed is in the middle between HP and Rough. It has a texture, so I use it when I want to do a little bit of paint "bleeding" or just paint wet on wet... and just when I don't want to focus on too many details. Then you have ROUGH, rough has the most texture, more texture than CP, it's a good choice when you don't want to work on details at all...It's a great paper for landscapes, wet on wet techniques but I do use it to paint animals.. I just like the texture. And even I work on Rough I still work on details, it's a bit harder because this paper has a tooth to it but it's not impossible, this paper requires to use more water and paint. Either way before I start painting I do think about a paper I am going to use... I decide on what I want to focus on and which paper will suit it best. I think each paper is best for certain things to paint. When I paint the same rose on hot pressed and on rough, you can see the difference, more detail shows on HP and the colors look softer but then on ROUGH, it's a bit easier sometimes to omit the details and let the paint do its own thing. thanks Stephen.
Good question 🤓 I just answered this question in another comment so if you don't mind I will copy and paste: so...cold pressed is on the rougher side and hot pressed is the smoothest. For example with hot pressed the paint won't sink in as much and will dry faster, vs cold pressed is the most traditional watercolor paper for artists, the paint will sit for a while until it settles and you can do dry brushing. It also dries longer because of all that. They are both fun, I just have been painting mostly on hot pressed because of my style. Hot pressed is good when you can paint faster and when you use a lot of paint. To determine which paper is best for you I think it's a good idea to try out all three kinds, hot pressed, cold pressed and the third kind - rough watercolor paper, this one is super bumpy!
Wonderful Maria, just wonderful. You really have a feel for the ocean don't you? 😊❤️
Harper, I love everything with water :) I can't wait to paint more! Thank you so much :)

Thank you Barbara :)
Hi Maria Another beautiful painting. I have always painted on 300lb cold press I'll have to try hot press. What do you use for reference?
