  • Rosito Royce - Dance of the Doves - The Dove & the Eastern Goddess
The Dove was one of the major symbols of the Eastern goddess, found with images of Aphrodite, Astarte, Ishtar, & Inana. Royce often performed with seven doves. The archived video shows other avian species, but Royce was often pictured with doves.
Rosita Royce was born in 1918 in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA as Marjorie Rose Lee. She was an actress, known for Striporama (1953) and Sunset Strip. She died on September 24, 1954 in Miami, Florida, USA.
Royce was known for her "Dance Of The Doves" routine, one she performed at the White Way Casino at the 1940 New York World's Fair. Her act consisted of her strip-teasing to the point where her costume consisted mainly of seven doves or alternately of a cockatoo called "Silly Billy" and a macaw named "Red." She also appeared in the 1953 comedy film "Striporama" that also featured Bettie Page and Lili St. Cyr.
Royce created her trademark act, 'The Dance of the Doves', which caused her to become one of the most controversial dancers of her time.
"Filling her mouth with bird seeds and striking elegant poses to preserve her modesty, she used live doves like other performers used fans. Audiences couldn't believe their eyes when the seven trained doves carried off pieces of her evening gown; despite such a questionable act her performance at the 1939 New York World's Fair was a hit."
