    Well its a great gun, my O rings leaked right out of the box too, noticed the manufacture claims otherwise on this thread, can we all be lieng. Dont appreciate their comments. I did put the top on a lathe and cut it down to fit the cups available locally. Actually I may make some tops for different size cups not hard. I also added another spring that keeps the cup on the top from coming loose, a easy fix to a design flaw... Still I would buy the gun again.

    The "O" rings will seal at 60+ PSI. This will seal the lower 3A ring. At lower pressures, this seal does not have enough pressure on it. Also the seals from Harbor Freight are Buna N. They need to be EP to resist acetone. Each gun is checked before it leaves the factory.

      +ES Mfg. Inc. When I bought it I was worried because it leaked at 40 psi, I broke down the gun right away and found every seal was ripped, wasn't used or touched by solvents or resin at that point. Maybe I was the lucky recipient of a multiple returned unit or a demo from fibreglast. I've used it every day for almost 2 years with the Harbor Freight rings and it works absolutely perfect. I don't drown the gun with acetone when I clean it, just a light brushing with a gun brush kit and the paper cup goes in the garbage. Absolutely great product you guys sell, I probably wouldn't be where I am today without it. The quality of my finished work is top notch and production time is much faster because of it.

      leaked everywhere straight out of box. Ordered from FiberGlast. Why am I supposed to now go buy o-rings for a $175 air gun brand new?

    Great video :)
    My o'rings did not leak at all out of the box all I can say is yours had been sitting on the shelf for along time or somebody pulled it down prior to you receiving it
    The trigger o'ring must be pulled out with care, screw it out via the thread do not pull it straight out otherwise you will break the o'ring like I did
    Yes I used to brush the gelcoat on too which was very difficult
    this gun is a heaven sent compared to those days such a professional job GREAT GUN

      I just bought one haven't used it yet was thinking I'd use it just for gelcoat but am now thinking I may use it for resin too, do you get much overspray with resin? I'm laying up small boat hulls. Thanks

    • @LowCostCncRetrofits
      @LowCostCncRetrofits 9 років тому

      Walkertongdee Yes mate Its a great gun but don't use it like a spray gun you need to put it down heavy at 2" wide passes otherwise gelcoat can end up too thin and tripe when laminated
      Overspray is minimal because the gelcoat is so thick but ventilate the room because the polyester fumes will knock your head off
      Also you must use the 5mm or 3/16 nozzle any smaller your wasting you time
      Good luck

      Placing a little water will make the trigger less likely to tear. Do not use petroleum products, as that will damage the EP O rings.

    • @LowCostCncRetrofits
      @LowCostCncRetrofits 8 років тому

      +ES Mfg. Inc. Ok what about usiing silicone grease then ?
      I used petroleum grease on the trigger internal orings a year ago and is still working fine easy to dismantle
      The nozzle oring has never been a problem given how low profile it is in the brass machined groove
      a good acetone clean is all thats required

    gel coat will set up in that gun once harder is added. doubt me try it and let me know how well your 170$ gun works after you let sit.

    • @lisupercars561
      @lisupercars561  5 років тому +1

      You're not supposed to let it sit. With a good quality resin or gel coat you have at least a 30 minute working time. As soon as you're done, clean it. If you mix the product, then let the gun sit for an hour, yes it will setup. Same thing with paint in a spray gun, if you mix the hardener in the paint and let the gun sit, it will harden.

    Nice intro, I just bought one of these. Have you found a cheap source of replacement cups that fit? Composite places like to sell them at about $1/cup, but I've seen packs on Amazon that are less than 0.20/cup, but you have to order 500 of them!

      These work great also. You just have to add the catalyst and premix before you pour into the gun. Hope this helps :) 10 cents each saves you a lot of time and solvent for cleanup.

    My gun leaked air out-the-box too. But I fixed it, and like Kevin from the LB said, this is a bad-ass little gun..
    So, two things, don’t screw the trigger mechanism into the body too far. It’s counter-intuitive, but if you study how this bitch works, there is a column with a drain. Now my drain (in fact the whole product), had burs and snags. The ones in the drain definitely were compromising that seal, and I did have to drill that out a tiny bit to clean it up. As for the column, it seals against the body - BUT if it’s screwed in too far, it will move the column-to-body seal past the air inlet bore, cause a leak to the egress.
    Now the gun works perfectly, no leaks, and my gelcoat look like a finish coat.
    Btw, the metric HF o-ring set I got didn’t actually have one that matched perfectly, but it’s been a few years since OP.

    Hello, I know that this is an older thread but I have to try. I just bought one of these to shoot gelcoat on a boat hull . I used the #5 tip.I thinned with Styrene and shot at 80-85 psi. I pinched the fluid control down to the lowest I could get and still have flow only to have the gelcoat just come out so think that a pint only covered 8 to 10 sq ft. with lots of orange peel . Wasted so much material that I had to finish up with an HVLP gun with a 2.5 tip.
    How are you getting a nice flat finish ?????
    thanks

      A.B.59 Hi, this is not made to make a smooth finish , its meant to spray into a smooth mold. It's great gun as it's so simple nothing will go wrong as long as you catalystise your gelcoat!

    few days ago I bought a G100-6 spray gun from Italian distributor.
    Today I tested it, but I was unable to spray my epoxy gel coat.
    Very little and not regularly came out from FN-6 nozzle.
    I use ebalta gel coat OH 4 SL .
    Do you have any suggestion about it?
    I can send for email if you need, test and technical data sheet gel coat ebalta

    • @walkertongdee

      Wish I was here sooner. Not all gelcoats are for spraying or are inferior so they won't spray, I had the same problem. Two things you can do buy sprayable gelcoat of good quality not the brush gelcoat that is more common and less expensive or try thinning it with mono styrene or in a pinch polyester resin... Thinning with Mono can cause curing problems as it is a thinner so don't use too much just what you need.I am in Thailand where they brush resins a lot I now use imported gelcoat... IT'S NOT A GUN PROBLEM!

      Nice! You'll like it. You only need to thin gel coat if you are spraying through a paint gun, but that defeats the purpose of using gel coat haha

    • @scottcross1254
      @scottcross1254 9 років тому

      You are so right and when you start thinning and spraying gelcoat it really screws up the cure time I think anyway and you're right I tried to brush it on and it looks very amateurish

    "leaks out of nowhere"
    ???
    "get a good compressor"
    Well, that's real specific on CFM requirements.
    Trump Univ. Vocational School?
    I bought mine off of Amazon. I opened the box to find not a single piece of paper or marking in the parts. Included was a dime size, white, plastic ring. I have no idea where it is supposed to go after inspecting the gun.
    Not impressed for >$100.
    So far not a single YT video has discussed this plastic ring.

    What solvent do you use to clean up the gun?

    • @lisupercars561
      @lisupercars561  9 років тому +1

      Acetone works fast but swells o rings if you're not careful. Lacquer thinner is great for cleaning paint equipment. Use a paint brush to get tough spots.

      RC VIDEOUK gel coat is the same as thinned body filler. Cleanup is exactly the same.
