    Fantastic coverage. We're a small red dot after all; every individual recognition matters.
    People will be shocked this is women's football. The coverage and viewership is low. But have to start from somewhere, right?
    Superb parents. Takes alot of guts and sacrifice to pursue non-typical SG goals. Hopefully she's the platform for many Singaporeans, not just girls, to take the leap into international waters when it comes to sports.
    As for football I think it's high-time we have a new Fandi for the locals to rave about.

      There's a huge opportunity for women's football in Singapore. The men's team will be stunted for as long as young men have to do military service. But you've got a small nation with unbelievable resources and few legitimate sports stars. The women could be genuine icons there. The likes of NTU and NUS could do more to bring women through on scholarships as well.

      yea I would assume maybe upper middleclass. My parents aren't wealthy, and they paid for 3 kids (me and my 2 siblings) all at the same time for each our tuition, rent, food, insurance, utilities and what not, basically everything to live life and study. I guess her parents are around the same level in order to fund her endeavor in Germany. But maybe she works somewhere besides her football career, I mean it's not professional, meaning most of her teammates and players in such a league are either working or studying while playing. They only train 3 times a week in the afternoon for maybe 2 hours. So, there is enough time to do whatever is necessary in order to earn a living. You see it's basically a hobby what they are doing. No disrespect to those fine ladies but to demand the same respect and earning like the first tier mens players from BVB is an audacity... I mean come on be real, those are the top 1% players in the world, and the ladies no matter how fine of human being they are, they are literally 5 classes/tiers under the men... Its basic economics 101, demand and supply, there is not enough interest in their tier and women's football in general therefore not even close to the money and investments are made compared to the men, hence the clubs do not have the same budget to pay them the same wages. Thats meritocracy and capitalism in a nutshell.

      A trait I find in many in Singapore is to assume that someone who buys a condo or has success, is 'oh they must have rich parents'. That may be the case for some, but it's reduction thinking....there is mobility in the world, work hard and you'll be recognised and succeed, yes some may have more obstacles to overcome than others, including finances. Just saying they must be rich is narrow minded.

      It's not like any Singaporean boy has the quality to qualify for Dortmund's team anyway. Singapore's best prospect was Ben Davies - where is he playing now? In Thai League, ZERO goals at age 23. Even Ikhsan Fandi had plenty of chances to make it in Norway (not a very competitive league) but couldn't do so.

      You do understand how football academies work right? They begin as young as 5 years old and work up to around 17-18 before they sign their first football contract. You still have at least a good 10 years to win competitions and make your mark like any other sport.
      Once you’ve gotten to a level like Joseph Schooling at 18 years old, deferment can easily be applied. I’ve seen recruits in SAF that are 30 years old so timeframe shouldn’t be a problem.
      But the question is, has any male footballer made any significant achievement by 17 years old to warrant such deferment ?

    I dont deny her talent but honestly, she is lucky because her parents are well off. Yes yes yes all of the comments might be attacking me for like being salty but honestly, she is very lucky! There are many hidden talents that may not have the space and environment to be able to explore being a pro in Singapore! And before anyone starts attacking me, im not denying her hardwork but to be able to give up a scholarship offer in the US speaks more volumes abt her family financial background rather than purely a brave decision here! Not everyone is as privileged as this.
    Im not gonna even go into the NS factor because with or without NS, not every male may be the equivalent talent to Danelle but to me, is really the background you come from! Ben Davis is a good example but NS had to hold him back up for that! Oh well! So in either ways, I would say she is very lucky and blessed to be able to pursue this!

    • @andyng5321

      @jonjonhyper8324 2 місяці тому +1

      @andyng5321 I mean to be fair, we have boys going into professional leagues in Malaysia, Thailand and all. But the NS factor will affect and determine whether boys decide to make pro their career! It's almost like a life or death situation! Danelle can comfortably play at the back of her mind because everything is secured for. It honestly just speaks alot of volumes abt her family financial background
      Then someone will say. Bro she is talented...come on. I will reply by 2 things. Yeah I didn't deny she isn't talented but I can also pick up another girl from the national team who works just as hard and just as talented as Danelle. But why is danelle getting the spotlight?? OH BECAUSE she PLAYS for dortmund...! If this is some random ass teams, u think cna will even interview?? One of Fandi son is playing in a Belgium second division team which is pretty impressive. Where is that interview? Iksan used to play for a Norway team. Where was that interview?
      And my second reply to the earlier possible question to me is, yes. She is talented but being able to pursue all this requires alot of financial means. Being able to develop yrself in a sport IN SINGAPORE is honestly sadly not for every commoners (this is a whole seperate topic for another day)!
      So to conclude. I think neither of us deny her talent inclusive of me. But u can't deny the good family financial background she came from which contributes to everything now!

Btw she is no longer in Dortmund, she just signed for an Australia team last week. But that is besides the point.
