Interesting mix of old BBC clips and continuity in black and white (part 1 of 2)

Run straight from an ebay tape, only point is that the bits said to be in colour are present on the tape in b/w. #1960s #60s #television

This is great stuff, I got a copy in my tape trading days back in the '90s, and it was really exciting seeing continuity of this vintage. Not sure why the BBC decided to preserve the continuity of the first evening on BBC 1 in colour, and then only in b&w (not set up with colour film for such things I suppose), but I'm glad that they did.

The only let down of this tape is that it didn't contain footage of the first night of colour TV as written on the label, but the seller did say they hadn't checked. That would have been a very satisfying find.

@@80sandretrogubbins25 Ah yes, I can see why that would be disappointing...I can't recall now how it was described to me when I got a copy, but it wasn't like that . Good work with your ebay finds, I've never really looked on there for this kind of thing!

@@appropriatedsubdiffusion9260 This was from the seller's final tape, though I have got in contact with someone else who might have some interesting stuff. By the way, I've noticed some of the stuff I've been getting can be seen on the intriguing channel called The EJHearn archive.

BBC continuity continued to announce "this film was made in black and white" well into the 1970s, long after colour televisions became the norm.

Yes, from 13:20. Prior to that, the clips are from November 1969. Then from 19:15 it reverts to about 1968

I think the continuity from 13:20 is from 5th January 1966

That wouldn't be surprising. The Late Night Line Up seen later in the video also seems to be from January 1966, as appears to be A Whole Scene Going.
