    In European carseats basically only seats with harness with weight limit bigger than 18kg require top tether.

    Thank you for video ... I have one question . Do we need to still use isofix and tether when change to highback booster with seatbelt positioning ??

      Sasipong Rohito This will depend on your specific seat. Some allow that, while others don't. Please refer to your user instructions​ that came with the seat, or call the manufacturer to check.

    Thanks so much for sharing. I've a big doubt: I bought a new cybex solution s-fix (group 2-3) and it doesn't need the the top tether, whether my actual baby seat does. I'm worried about the fact that the baby seat will move even if it is well plugged on isofix. I can't explain why they have not provided the top tether belt integrated on baby seat. Should I consider to buy another baby seat with a top tether and throw away the cybex solution s-fix?

      I'm not familiar with European seats, but in the US tethers are mostly, if not only used for forward facing seats. I think there may be only one that allows tethering RF, but most of our cars don't have the Anchor for it. If the seat doesn't tether and it's new, it should have passed all the safety stuff your country requires without it. If you are unsure, you should contact your local child passenger safety experts and they can answer your questions, or call the company and ask to speak to one of their child passenger experts.

      The Cybex Solution S Fix is a Group 2/3 seat, and as these seats do not have an internal harness, therefore do not use a top tether or load leg. They are simply belt positioning booster seats for children who have outgrown the 18kg weight limit of their group 1 harnessed seat. If your child is less than 18kg, please find a group 1 seat that will fit your vehicle as the Cybex Solution S fix group 2/3 seat is NOT appropriate for them. It is more complicated than iSize and ISOFIX group 1 seats, but if your vehicle will accommodate it, I highly recommend the Axkid MiniKid II. It will keep your child in the 5-point harness (in the rear facing position) for far longer than any other group 1 seat available in Europe, and the longer they ride in the harness, especially in the rear facing position, the safer they are. The MiniKid will allow them to stay in the harness until they are a whopping 25kg and 125cm tall. With such high limits you can keep them in the harness until they are mature enough to sit properly in the booster/group 2/3 seat for the entire ride. The MiniKid is a Swedish seat and has passed the extra rigorous Plus Test, so even though it doesn't pass iSize due to it being a belt installed seat rather than instaled with ISOFIX (the only way that they could get the high weight limit) it is an extremely safe seat. It has the highest weight AND height limits of ANY group 1 seat available.

    The backrest on the tethered seat looks to be adjusted differently in the comparison shot?

      I think it's the tether working (correctly), and therefore pulling the back of the seat forward.

    when the child is finally facing foward (4+) why whould you still be using the 5 point harness instead of a highback booster with seatbelt positioning?

      Because children are safer in a 5-point harnessed seat (appropriate to their height and weight) than they are in a booster + seat belt alone. The currently safety recommendation is that 5-point harness be used as long as possible.

      Simply put?
      Children are not crash test dummies.
      No 4-5 year old child on this planet is going to stay perfectly seated and positioned in the booster and belt the way a crash test dummy does during crash tests, for the entire duration of every single ride, and therefore greatly increases the risk of injury.
      This is why in crash tests, the 5-point harness APPEARS to offer no extra level of protection over the booster seat, BUT IN THE REAL WORLD the way a CHILD behaves in general, especially a booster seat, particularly 4 and 5 year old's, shoot even 6 year olds for that matter, is very far from that "perfect-position-at-all-times" situation represented in crash tests. I've been a mom for 16 years now and will welcome my fifth baby this summer, and I've never made it through an entire car ride with any of my older 3 in boosters WITHOUT having to tell them to sit right! At least before 7-8 years old. If they did crash tests with the dummy in the plethora of pretzel positions that I've seen my own and others kids sit in while riding in a booster seat, it would make it much more obvious that there IS a big difference in level of safety between the forward facing harness and a booster seat.

      Some vehicles can be retrofitted. Most modern vehicles have then and the vehicle manual or carseatlady website can tell you where they are.
