There's a story in the Bible about a woman who had so little and yet gave. What a sacrifice that had to be. Tithing is a sacrifice and I believe that's what our Christian faith is all about. Thank you Father and God bless you too.
Thank you, Fr. Kirby!! I never hear Catholic priests saying this but was often encouraged to live this biblical truth when I attended faith-based churches. IT IS A GIFT. Blessing people in their need is an amazing joy. If ALL Catholics did this we would be an unshakable force in society for God.
Thank you, Father Kirby. I know the Church has no requirement for tithing, but i have personally experienced the blessings of tithing, everything you said. Maybe the Church should revist the subject.
The Catholic Church does not require Catholics to tithe a specific percentage of their income. However, the Church does teach that Catholic adults who are able to should provide some form of material support to the Church. The Church's fifth precept, "You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church," states that Catholics are obligated to help with the Church's material needs, based on their own abilities. This could include supporting the decent sustenance of ministers, promoting social justice, and helping the poor
Jesus told all of us that He does not change one letter or part of a letter of The Covenant. Also, He told us to give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to Him. The WORLD belongs to God. WE belong to God. We will be judged by our love of neighboe: feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc. In order to be a correctly functioning society, we MUST love one another, otherwise chaos abounds. Self-denial and care for our siblings, our neighbors, is part of both the Old AND the New Covenant. And we know what God will say to those who did not feed the hungry and clothe the naked. His words will remind us that it is WE who choose to go to Hell.
Thank you so much Fr Kirby💜🙏

There's no biblical tithe that was ever imposed from earned wages. Monetizing the tithe as a deliverable was man's idea after the Bible was written.
Amen 🙏
