I take a Duffel and a Backpack. If I'm traveling longer distances the duffel can sit on my shoulders supported by my GoRuck and I just grap either end of the duffel for stability.
Had the Boundary Supply Aegis duffel, but switched to a GoRuck GR2. I enjoyed the duffel, but I feel that they are best suited for car travel. I mainly travel via Air so for me I decided to switch to a dedicated backpack. I just got back from a nearly two month trip in Peru and I really enjoyed traveling with my GR2 40l and Patagonia Atom sling.
Was looking in the comments for this. Tried other brands but always go back to my BAD bags. May not have many features but still the first bags I reach for.
Same here, I have all the sizes and either the original or the newer recycled lighter material. I love the simplicity. This channel tends not to ever mention REI products as they often are sponsored by backcountry. It's sad because REI has a lot of REI branded products that are fantastic for travel.
@@jorort01 I love it, used it for 5 day trip and worked great. Not a fan of the shoulder strap but the more you use it, more it will get broke in. Its also very well made.
Hey Winznut! Do you mean the one sitting on top? If so, that's the Heimplanet Packing Cube. I'll drop a link below. Thanks for the comment! - Austin packhacker.com/travel-gear/heimplanet/packing-cubes-5/
Please stop making duffel backpack hybrids. They don't end up being good at either. I personally use the North Face Duffels in various sizes and on all of them I've removed the "shoulder straps" and replaced it with 1" tubular nylon webbing to make it easier to carry as just a normal Duffel Bag. Even then, it ends up functioning in a less than ideal manner because it's clear that it wasn't designed that way.
Definitely depends on the person, cus I love duffle backpacks. If you want a more comfortable wear, you also need to be mindful of how you pack them... So they're great for some people and not for other🤷🏽♀️
Too much emphasis is made on the esthetics of the bag. A backpack is a backpack and a duffel is a duffel, why try and mesh the two. I’ve yet to come across a bag that will serve both purposes perfectly. My 10 year old Samsonite duffel is simple with three pockets and a large open space inside. If I need to take my laptop, I use my backpack or I put it in a sleeve (which most people have) and toss it into the duffel. I don’t care if a duffel has a dedicated laptop sleeve or not. Use the bag for its intended purpose !
I always take a laptop or at minimum a tablet with me and never really care about a built-in laptop sleeve. In fact, I go out of my way to avoid them. My laptop and/or tablet go into protective sleeves that fit my laptop specifically and much safer. I then place that sleeve in between layers of packing cubes and you cannot be more secure. The less pockets the better for me! I think I know the Samsonite you're speaking of and I missed out on it and haven't found a recent Samsonite that is the same.
Do you prefer traveling with a duffel or backpack?
It's going to be duffel for me any day 😂
Im still rocking my nomatic 40L travel bag. I haven't seen a nomatic video from you guys in a will
@@N8TURES sorry, your comment was supposed to be for @Pack Hacker I guess
But yeah, same vibe from me 👍😂

I spent 1 month around Europe with a Tom Bihn Aeronaut 30, mostly as a backpack (with the great organization of a duffel). It was amazing.
Backpack is a go to bag, duffels for gym or weekend road trips haha

The Pakt and Aer duffels look interesting to me. I'm usually one for a backpack, but those look quite nice.
Just what I have been waiting! Thank you guys!
I’ve been here in Seattle for a month and it’s camping gear heaven
What are your favorites? 🧐

It’s sorta crazy how many travel duffels don’t have luggage pass throughs, despite a duffel being the perfect form factor to place atop a rolling bag.
I think it’s because the duffel usually replaces the roll on (at least in my case) rather than replacing a backpack
The North Face Base Camp Voyager 32L seems simple and lightweight and fun
B.A.D. Best American duffle is great also... heavy duty

Came here 2 yrs late, but 100% endorse this. They must not give testers out, I’ve never seen @packhacker do anything with them
I really love my REI big haul. It’s priced well and can be bought on sale pretty regularly.

Gotta love that peak design thou 😏
Next time: Recycled Firefighter duffel with backpack straps. It’s nearly perfect.
love my peak design 65l duffel. haven't had an issue getting into overhead.
I have that one as well and love it, they seriously let you on the plane with it? Thats awesome since its so huge
Please add text for dimension and weight for each bag... (dont forget the metric system ) now i have to go chek each back for dimension and weight.
thank you so much i really need one of these rn
Goruck kit bag is also a solid choice.
Love the look of that watch Tom, what brand is it, and any comments/reviews on it? The one you were wearing while presenting.
I need a new one-bag solution for traveling while I'm also carrying a 30-lb dog in a backpack. I think a duffel might be the right choice.
Is the aer travel duffel discontinued, I can only find travel weekender.
It's like you were reading my mind
@packhacker I couldn’t convince my girlfriend to pack that light!😁 how about the Osprey Transporter 130??
Only 130 litres - I need you to train my daughter Lol.
Baby steps! Thanks for the comment!

2:58 MY first thought was, "Why does he have a big red stapler in his duffle?
That's a concealed carry self-defense weapon.
😁
Do you have a list for one with wheels?
Have you tested any of the garment duffle bags?
Can you do a segment on travel coffee makers like aero press etc?
Hey J B! I'll pass it along to our editorial staff. Thanks for the suggestion!

do the sterkmann travel duffel!
I have the pakt bag I like it, get to put it through a week long trip in 2 weeks...
How did it perform? I've been thinking of taking the plunge with a Pakt One.

Could someone tell what kind of fabric that blue pouch @11:30 is made of?

@@PackHacker Thank you!
I was primary looking for that kind of patterned fabric
I bought the Nomad Lane Bento bag a couple years ago. I dig it.
Disappointingly only one has the sleeve over the luggage handle.
Boundary Supply's duffel is called Aegis, not errant
You forgot the Sea To Summit Nomad Duffle Bag. Check it out
What about Goruck?
Anybody know of a good week - 10 day clamshell duffle?
So what is the best option if you have a backpack for overhead, and want to have a "personal carry on item" as well?
We're fold of using a sling if you are using a travel backpack as your carry-on.
