I've searched and searched for a video like this. I've always loved the chrome lettering. I tried it a few times before, but did individual brush strokes to get the fade. Doing the half and half on the brush is GENIUS! From the start I was having a hard time visualizing, but once the first parts of the letters were down I could see it finished. AWESOME job. I'm gonna watch this over and over and over and over again, and practice, practice, practice. Thank you Glen. You're an amazing artist.
It was absolutely awesome to see Glen's amazing talent as the letters progressed into chrome. I am exhausted from holding my breath with every stroke of the brush.
Sharing such Talents is something painters cant do this days. Thanks to you for keeping the nature of Arts alive in todays world of computers and printers.
I love the hand painted look adds to my suspension of disbelieve.. The imperfections make it look real.. It inspires me as an artist/typographer/and graphic designer..
so nice nice to see this man at work..............had a nice article on Glen Weisgerber in sign craft back in the 80's..............large group of guys in jersy were the inspiration to many of us throughout the country. thanks for the great vid!
impressive technique and can certainly appreciate the years worth of experience. just look at the steadiness of the hand and how accurate each stroke is!
I've seen a lot of work in my 38 years of free hand lettering and pinstriping your version of the chrome lettering is impeccable mine on the other hand needs a lot of practice to come close to the quality of yours your video absolutely helped me out a bunch and I appreciate you showing me what I was doing wrong now hopefully I'll be able to do chrome lettering and it won't look like a five-year-old did it with finger paint.
I started painting signs and custom graphics 30 years ago, and Glen Weisberger was my God even then.. He makes this technique look so easy.. trust me, it isn't. This man is the very best there is.
Really Bernie!!!! Glen, Mr "J" and Circus paint were the best of the best in the 70s and painted all the great Funny Cars and Top Fuel cars back in the day. Glen was lettering and striping all the greats when he was in his teens!!! I would suggest you look to the archives and see what this great has done. You name the magazine this man has been featured. He has been off the map for a few years and I am stoked to see his work back on the scene. He is custom painting royalty!!! Thank you Glen
Absolutely awesome. I really started to see it when he put that one spot of white on the s. Dude so incredible. Thank you man. I may have already watched all these and commented but here goes again it’s cool man. Thanks
Thanks for the fun video! Now i want to do that! i don't know now what for, but i will definitely give it a try sometime soon!. A great instructor once told me that when you want to do a good line, stop breathing while you do it.
thanks for sharing! My son broke his arm and wants me to paint his cast like a transformer.... so here I am upskilling my chrome game... feeling a lot more confident now than before I started watching :)
Colega.Soy Antonio Ataide Ataide de Córdoba Argentina.Excelente tu dinámica con los pinceles.Yo admiro a otros como vos.Hace 30 años me dedico a pintar carteles artesanales.Un saludo amigo
The way I learnt it, is to start with painting the outline. Then you have some slack to work with when painting the filling and you can concentrate on the blending more which is a little easer. Of course you'd still have to touch it up in the end.
These videos are really informative. Been doing hand lettering for 30 years but its never too late to learn new stuff. Its kinda a dying art form with computer cut vinyl and printers so readily available nowdays
the steadiness of his hand is largely thanks to the mahl stick he is using (see it attached to the end of the palette? with the fluffy ball at the end?). it is a painter's tool designed for the exact purpose of keeping the hand away from the painting surface without fatigue. but yeah, his control and technique are also extremely refined.
notice around 14:32 while he's using the liner quill to accent the central peaks of the R. you can actually see the canvas shaking when he lifts the quill after more demanding strokes because he's basically leaning into the mahl stick. the control achieved by using the palm, wrist, and forearm areas to leverage any hand tool or precision instrument with the rest of your bodyweight creates a lot of pressure. it's an extremely intuitive maneuver that most people probably do everyday without realizing.

I could watch him painting for hours. So relaxing and beautiful.
This is a man that has perfected his craft beyond and above it also took more than a couple days to accomplish this skill
The technique is amazing. The blend of the colours you make is just perfection. I would love to see paintings made by you.
Interesting!
What an amazing technique this man has! Thanks to Glen for allowing it to be documented in video.

That's killer, I have to try this technique. The big brush doubling as a paint cup and pallet holder as well as a hand rest is ingenious, I like that

Nevermind the sign he's painting, the man is the art.
The way I learnt it, is to start with painting the outline. Then you have some slack to work with when painting the filling and you can concentrate on the blending more which is a little easer. Of course you'd still have to touch it up in the end.
Fabulous effect
