I have always considered Mahler's Third to be his greatest work. Certainly, along with Deryck Cooke, I think the First Movement the greatest single movement that Mahler ever composed.
@@andrewle4227 It’s really difficult to put them in order of preference, but if I had to it would be: Third, Second, Eighth, First, Sixth, Fifth, Ninth, Fourth, Seventh.
Thanks for uploading this. I've always loved Mahler. I've studied Nietzsche. I just recently discovered Schopenhauer. What serendipity to find this documentary to see how they all connect.
""By the way, the same director (Jason Starr) is preparing a similar documentary about Mahler's 2nd symphony, called "The resurrection of Gustav Mahler" "" When we can see the documentary of the 2nd?
I feel a bit ashamed to admit that the 3rd Symphony has by far always been my least favorite of Mahler's symphonies. I must of listened to his 2nd, 4th, and 9th a trillion times over the years. I've listened to the 3rd all the way through maybe twice. For shame self.

Such a beautifully made documentary for perhaps one of the universe’s most ineffably touching creations... Mahler’s 3rd symphony.
For me this is the most beautiful simphony of Mahler and you have helped me to understand it better
Third time watching this documentary, each time a different experience. Thank you so much for making it available for everyone here o UA-cam
One of the best documentaries about Mahler that I've ever seen! Congratulations!

Nea, I like the first of the 9th even better :)
Thanks Michael. i thought i was the only one who consider the 3rd to be his greatest. I'm curious your favorites in order.

Being a habitual trumpet player I'm partial to #7
A beautiful study of the music and the cosmology behind it. The title of this documentary is very appropriate.

That was incredible! Can't wait to watch the rest. Thanks for posting!
Watching this in preparation for hearing the piece tomorrow at the Philadelphia Orchestra.
coolest documentary on a classical music creation
Anxious to experience this with the Philadelphia Orchestra this weekend with Yannick Nézet-Séguin!
Thank you for this documentary.
Agreed. My favorite piece of music of all time.
Mahler Lives!
This is a wonderful documentary.
funny how buddhist Mahler's musical philosophy is
""By the way, the same director (Jason Starr) is preparing a similar documentary about Mahler's 2nd symphony, called "The resurrection of Gustav Mahler" ""
When we can see the documentary of the 2nd?
thanks for share. !
Sorry to be so pessimistic here guys but Benjamin Zander's essay on this symphony is a lot more informative, accurate, and self-fulfilling.
They're probably both great. Thanks for sharing, I'll definitely check it out.
asianpianoman have you got a link for us?
Nooo...!!!! The incredible climax, the amazing horn lick, is covered up by a VoiceOver !
Where does the music excerpt on 2:06 comes from?
LuizBHMG Mahler's third symphony, third movement!
MInd expanding music, a quantum leap further than classical or romantic genre.
pretty freaking epic
Who's the bearded conductor?
I believe it is Glen Cortese and the Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra
I do really like this. I just wish it had a little less "woo-woo" in it.
