    I'm enjoying the longer videos as teardowns are a new thing to me.

      Where do you find parts for the B 43G 318 lawn tractor, like a rebuild kit

      @@joesmith8632 Maybe mmrbeef will chime in, but I'd try searching "john deere 318 parts" on eBay

      Boomer's Onan parts, he is the guru although I'm sure mmrbeef has a stash as well.

      Good to see it unedited. I have a B43G out of a Case 446 that I need to rebuild. These videos at least give me an idea of what to expect.

      Glad you are enjoying the longer videos. I am always hesitant to do long videos but I seem to get good feedback from them.

      The next one should be out on Friday or Saturday. The next video is on a generator.

    Why do you prefer to rebuild P-series Onans compared to B-series Onans? Asking before I find parts to rebuild a B-series from a Roper.

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  7 місяців тому

      Personally I prefer the P series. I can’t really give you a reason, I just prefer to work on the P series over the B series units.

    I didn't see or hear you mention removal of the ignition module when you removed the flywheel and the stator. These are very common problem issues on these engines after all these years. Was there one on this engine? Seems like there should be on that vintage...

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому

      A B43 would have had points and a condenser compared to the newer P series with the ignition module you are thinking of. The ignition module can be a troublesome part, however, most of the time the perceived failure of the module has a root cause in another area such as a ground wire or other electrical issues (at least from my experience). In all these engines I have worked on I have only seen one bad module.

      @@mmrbeef I had a 1984 B43 that had the ignition module behind the flywheel. It was diagnosed by a John Deere dealer and it was a big job to replace it...they wanted $1000 to fix the engine. I researched this issue and found a schematic that showed the location of the ignition module on the B43.

    I have the B43G engine in mine and I am trying to replace the Gasket between the engine block and the oil filter adapter. How do I get to the bottom bolt? Is there a way to get to it with the engine still in the tractor?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому

      Sadly, to get good access you will probably have to take the engine out. There isn’t a good way to get to that bottom bolt without taking the side cover off the engine.

    What is that tool kit? Where to find it?

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  3 роки тому

      It is just an OTC Onan tool kit. You just have to keep looking for them. Lots and lots of searching. I would expect to pay $100-200 for a set when you find it. You can make the tools you need for much less. BUT the set is very nice to have if you find it.

    I called boomer today in an attempt to obtain a flyball spacer and he basically hung up on me. I was very nice and he said he has them and nobody's are better which I believe. He also said he won't sell to me or anyone for health reasons. So I'm stuck with a new to me 318 which I love but can't drive. Does anyone know how to obtain the parts needed for the flyball rebuild? I bought thos mower yesterday, it ran perfect during the sellers demonstration however after an hour of mowing yesterday it began to run away on the rpms

    • @mmrbeef
      @mmrbeef  Місяць тому +1

      Yes, Boomer has had some health challenges recently. I’m not sure what they are. He does have some very nice spacers. I’m sure he just can’t deal with all the phone calls he gets on a daily basis. The best alternative option is to find a newer style cam shaft OR just the spacer that has the tab (if your machine has a spot for the tab). I don’t think I have any right now. I haven’t purchased a 318 in a number of years so my parts hoard has been depleted. You could also use some red loctite and secure the existing spacer back onto the cam shaft. Many year ago I did that with my first 318 and last I know it was still chugging along.
