    I would highly recommend a book called “Total Control” by Lee Parks. It covers a lot of areas in regards to riding, including concentration, fear and more technical aspects (braking, clutch, etc). It helped me a lot and I still refer back to it at times.

    Regarding your question on what gear to be in from a traffic light to light situation. It depends on the bike and the pace of he traffic. Whatever feels good to you since you don't have a tachometer. Staying in a lower gear gives you a more immediate pull from the bike. While the higher gear is more free flowing but inputs may be slower. Cheers!

      Thanks for answering this. This bike has a lot of power in 1st so I've been doing what feels right. Maybe this will change when I become a better rider.😅

    If you want to experience pot holes, come to the UK. Does look like Austin does not like spending money on painting lines at junctions though? Started watching your content today when you had 188 subscribers, I subscribed when you had 190. Keep up the good work. 👍

      Thanks for watching! It was a side road so I would imagine no painted lines because of that. Overall the roads here are not great. 🤣

    That coffee looks gooooood. Love a Moka pot brew.
    My area has a ton of potholes too. It's become a fun(?) game to swerve around them constantly lol. When I accidentally went down an unpaved road for the first time awhile back, that was a fun adventure on dirt AND swerving around potholes.
    Usually when I see a red from a stop I'll get up to 2nd on the way there and assuming it changes I'll already be well on my way. I honestly mainly use 1st for parking lot drills or when I'm in back-to-back traffic.

    A trick that I learned that works best especially with right-handed turns, you lean your body with the bike but you plant your outside foot on your foot peg and put pressure down while you are turning, you will find you will be able to make much tighter turns using that, I'm a big guy so my body weight makes that really easy, but you said you're an athlete before so your strong legs should make that pretty easy for you, also when it comes to shifting I have found the less you think about it the smoother it is, You just develop the muscle memory and let that take over

      Oh interesting, I haven't heard this before. Thanks for the tip!

    • @Rocky-or4rz
      @Rocky-or4rz 11 місяців тому

      @@moto_des actually a slight correction on that, if you are going slow into the turn you actually shift your body weight opposite of the bike while pushing down on the outside peg, at lower speeds you do not want to lean with the bike cuz then you'll fall over lol, not that I have any experience with that!

      @@moto_des I think I learned that trick from my dad who started riding motorcycles in the '70s, I actually do a lot of steering with my feet on the pegs, You just have to play around with it and figure out where the sweet spot is for your weight and weight of the bike, the old man also taught me a little trick called blipping the throttle, where when you are shifting especially downshifting, as you release the clutch you give it the tiniest bit of gas to get your RPMs up and it makes shifting into a lower or higher gear smoother and it makes it a lot easier on your transmission increasing the life of your bike

    I ride a Honda with dual clutch transmission (Rebel 1100) so I never have to worry about what gear I am in. The bike takes care of that for me. Lol

    Nice ride!! About you question, I think there is no right or wrong option. If you can approach the red light in low speed, keep the 1st gear but remember the ST has a strong engine and a little movement in throttle you have lots of torque in a low gear. If the red light is not that close, I think changing to 2nd is a better option to maintain a low RPM, but I never approach a red light with clutch engaged or in neutral. And if you want to honk at other *bad* drivers, come to Brazil... lol

      You're so right, this bike has a lot of power in low gears. Haha, I could imagine you would use your horn way more than I ever will. Thanks for the helpful advice :)

      Also, also… watching you ride down Guadalupe brought back many joyous memories visiting my daughter in West Campus while she attended UT. Loved spending time with her just walking around the area together and riding Lime scooters all over the place. She graduated in 2019, but the memories will last a lifetime. Alright, back to the program…

    For the 1st or Second 2nd gear question, it really doesn't matter on that 900. I'm heavier than you and I easily rolled off from a Stop in second gear, the torque is very low down and plenty. As Caption Crash says '' The Clutch is Your Buddy! '' Modulate the clutch as easy peasy Triumph Easy.
