I raised my kids the same ways you have. They turned out great and as adults, they do not have a problem "going without" . They are adaptable and good at saving money or living cheap.I think I taught them survival skills for adult life.

We're very similar to you guys. My hubby and I got married without a nickel to our names. He was in university and I had just graduated. We spent less $1000 in total on our wedding (yes, I bought a brand new wedding dress, and bought hubby a suit. We made the food, a photographer friend did the photos, florist Granny did the flowers, and professional friends did the music). We were vegetarian by necessity, because meat was just too expensive. We had 'welfare tv' (rabbit ears), and did free activities for entertainment. We paid cash for university. We pay off credit cards every month and have never had debt.
I've seen so many people say they had go into debt because their parents never helped them starting out. We started out with nothing - and managed to create a great life (including yearly visits to the UK, paid off our house, and have over $500,000 in RRSPs for retirement (neither of us have company pension plans)).It's definitely possible to do!
(And yes, we have 3 kids)

Lost Control I think most people don’t benefit from getting help from family, unless it is someone sitting down and helping to sort out how to manage money. Parents nowadays think it’s the education systems job to teach money management to kids. If they are not seeing proper money management in the home, how will they grow up different? I worked at Walmart in college town, and you wouldn’t believe how many students would come in, buy their groceries and then ask for help to balance their bank books (this was before instant debit cards, so if you just had opened your account you couldn’t use money except in. He is, and we actually kept and turned in then he is to the bank). And these were not always international students that didn’t understand US banking, there were some American students that just weren’t understanding that if you spend $20 and don’t put it in the register you can’t reconcile and your bank book will be off.

I just found your channel and you've probably solved the issue already. When I repair a hose I put the hose end in HOT water, the hose slides onto the plastic repair part very easily. My hint for paying off a mortgage faster - two options... get an amortization schedule from the mortgage holder and pay the next months Principle each month. Be sure to tell the mortgage company that it is 'Principle only'. Or take the amount of a monthly payment, divide it by 12 and add that as 'Principle only' each month. It doesn't seem like much but that small amount of extra money is reducing the interest paid each month. Oh, one other option, people who get paid every other week - there are two months a year where there are 3 paychecks a month - take that extra paycheck and pay 1/2 of the mortgage payment to 'Principle only'.

Thank you for all you are doing. Thank you for the inspiration you are giving me to get out of debt. Thank you for the encouragement to buy used, to save on groceries, to learn how to do things, and to wait on purchasing items which I need (I am in need of a dining table and chairs and you encourage me to wait to purchase until I find what I want that is used. I can make due with what I have now.). I am so appreciative of you and of your generosity in sharing all that you do. You are so encouraging to me. What you share makes me feel that it is feasible to do what I need to get done in my home and yard. You give great ideas on how to do things. I know that God put you into my life for a purpose and you are an answer to prayer. Thank you so much. May God richly bless you for all you are doing.

I am not sure if you found the answer to your question on the 90 degree connector, however, I just happened to see Justin Rhoads with Permaculture Chicken use a blow torch to heat his hose and connect it that way. Don't melt your hose, just heat it enough to soften it and the connector will slide right in! I love yall's channel! Thanks for all you do!

Place in hot water for a few minutes to soften, stretch then fit and would fit better when cold. If needs a tighter fit, tighten with cable ties.

I just cracked up when I saw the gliding rocking chair! I also found one on the street which I picked up with my mom. Every time I look at the chair reminds me of her. she passed away A little more than two years (I still miss her dearly) and she was always looking out to save me money and she also would pick up things that would be useful and I did not have to pay for. I was able to pay off my house in 11 years because of my very frugal lifestyle. I also go out thrifting and yard sales. I also cut coupons to save in grocery shopping. Many of these things I have learned from my mom and folks like you. I'm going to try the homemade detergent to save myself some money there and any other tips that you might have on your website. Thanks so much for sharing all the valuable information to all of those of us who want to save and have a free debt life.

I used free woodchips for years, and then inexplicably, the tree companies stopped giving it out. They must be getting some cash somewhere for dumping it off. So, I switched to pine needles which I collect from a neighbor's lawn, Starbucks coffee grounds, and shredded paper. I ended up adding creeping junipers to the front, so that I didn't need to mulch so much.

You can do it two ways, one is to use a pot of boiling water. Stick the pipe in for about 10 seconds. Second way is easier but be careful that you don't overheat and melt the pipe. Use a cheap propayne torch.

I've discovered this channel only recently and am since soaking up all the information. I also got the cook book. I think this is my favourite of all the videos. It's so full of love and all these family anecdotes. It's encouraging and heartwarming. My husband and I both grew up poor but have very different memories of that time. He always says that sure, everyone on his street was poor and his family might have been a bit better off than others. He says he was wanting for nothing. While I was the only poor kid on the street and got bullied for it. I was always aware that we didn't have what others have and I grew very resentful against poverty and frugality. It's all in people's mind. I had more than my husband growing up but definitely felt poor. I'm slowly getting over it. The info here is helping.

try heating your tubing with a hair dryer and also put dish soap on the 90 degree plastic angle and work fast. You can also remove tubing by heating it up. When ever I need wheels or parts for my stove I go to the local dump. They let us scavenge from the dump, wheels come of old lawnmowers or gas bbq's. The enamel on my grates was chipping off due to using a pressure canner on the stove so I went to the dump go a set of 4 off an old stove and I use those grates when doing my canning. I live in a small town so it helps to be friends with the guy who runs the dump.

Retail sales are every other wk. clothing wise literally like 50% off every other wk. or more, when I worked clothing retail we had 1 wk. also with 10-15% off above the 50% off for 60-65% off for employees. This being said thrift stores have so much stuff now that they sometimes say we don't want anymore clothes locally. Now jeans I have not bought at thrift store bc they were $15 kid jeans and $7 new walmart jordache, this being said thift jean brands were $150 new higher quality, but cost with kids they go through sizes so quickly, but if I could find t's for $3 I would buy. We have 5 thrift stores locally all offer something diff., and we have 2-3 colleges in town so you can always get free furniture

You're both amazing with the tightwadding. I'm inspired to look over our budget that dh keeps secret to find ways to pay off the farm faster. On his own he managed to go from full to part time and support us with half my monthly pension thrown in. We have a prenuptial agreement and keep our money seperate at his insistence. However he burnt himself on that because I got a medium size settlement and only paid off 1 of his credit cards.

If you scroll all the way down to the section on Drip tube fittings....it talks about them. It's most likely not the right size fitting. www.irrigationtutorials.com/drip-system-basic-parts-valves-backflow-preventers-filters-tubing-emitters-and-more/ And somewhere else I was reading you can use a little bit of lubricant if it IS the right size but just being stubborn. Hope that is SOME help!

So what do you recommend when a "saver" has been married to a "spender" for 20 yrs? We've gotten out of debt, to pay it off and land back in it. Of course, this is all in raising 10 kids. Yes, my hubby now makes decent money, but no matter how much he's made, he goes and gets small loans. He has money for work, drinks, gas, etc. That's a budget allocated to him. But then he'd say he needed money to cover a deficit he made. I tried to say heeds to not buy things not for work with us budget, I'll take that out of the main acct, but to no avail. His budget *is* generous, but we really can't afford it now...I say that my husband is almost, he only has one flaw. I've gotten him to agree on cloth paper everything. Except TP, he won't do family cloth.
We are choosing to build off grid, only propane as our only utility. That will help. But every time we have freed up money, he's buying things. Fortunately, he only buys food. But he buys very expensive processed things in bulk. SMH.

Hey !! I stumbled upon your videos long back but thought they just sit and speak so did not continue watching (sorry! Im dyslexic and understand stuff visually more and attention span is lowest with two little girls)
And you know you speak about debt and how Being Christian it's not the right thing - I come from south east Asia and living life within your means was just a way of life .. no one spoke about it no one sat us down and explained but it was more than clear just the way we were raised that if we cannot afford it now we cannot have it. And even credit cards and paying EMI for stuff is a fairly new concept to our families. I live in U.K. Now of course but we have never done credit card. And except for the house we don't do anything which will put us in debt. But life is such that inspite of all this we sometimes struggle to make ends meet. I cannot imagine paying those interest rates. It's just madness

My favorite trip is really just home. My favorite thing is zero debt., and cash in the bank. I will say we don't use God enough. I do ask and rec., so don't forgot to ask God bc he does not know if you do not ask. What does bible say ask not rec. not something like that-so ask God what you want and watch him produce miracles-remember in his time frame not yours. You have to be more creative thrifting. I know all the clothes you guys wear all look brand new!!!
