- Dan Rather Remembers 9/11 is a special broadcast hosted by the man who was watched by tens of millions of viewers on the day America was attacked. His personal recollections as well as poignant stories about how much our country has changed and sacrificed in the last decade. Dan Rather Remembers 9/11 airs Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 8pm ET and 9pm PT.
I was there sitting in the 3rd row that day. I just happened to be walking by the theater and answered a trivia question and got in not realizing it was to be his first show after the attack. It had only been one week and everyone’s emotions were still very raw and you could really feel it in the Ed Sullivan theater that day. We had all just witnessed 911 first hand, we were all stuck in Manhattan, and we were all scared and horribly saddened like we had never been before. To see David Letterman in person talking very seriously with genuine emotion to Dan Rather wasn’t something I’d ever thought I would see. I remember the moment as Dan Rather was talking and he just burst into tears. They cut to a commercial break. Here in front of my face was Dan Rather and David Letterman both crying and I looked around the theater at that very moment and saw everyone’s faces. I will never forget how that felt. I cry every time I think of it even to this day.

On 9/11 we still had journalists who were professionals in bringing the news. Dan Rather speaks of only sleeping 4 hours a night and being in the broadcast center. He likely felt the weight of the world on his shoulders to bring news to a stunned nation. I miss him. A true professional and a gem of a man.

+mary love I, too, remember it clearly. The lyric he quoted was "Thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears." When he broke down sobbing, it really shook me.
Dude yes, I broke down. I sobbed, as a kid who never cries I sobbed like I had never known myself to do. If he lost it and I’d had watched him all my life wtf was wrong with me. Once Dan Rather grieves it’s probably ok to grieve. That was my 21 year old minds frame of thought.

I watched it to see what he had to say since he is going to be talking about Marijuana next Monday and well I don't trust Dan Rather since he works for THEM, the 6 people who own the Major Networks who don't' give a fuck about you or me but only THEIR OWN.
