How 2023 Went & Plans for 2024 - Happy New Year!

- 2023 wasn't a bad year all in, making a list and keeping it handy was key in actually getting some things done though, so I've done it again for this year, recorded it for you along with my thoughts behind these points in the hopes that maybe it inspires you to do something similar!

I've been enjoying following you through 2023 as well. You've inspired me to take a few steps further in my astro-journey. Including building a pier and purchasing a cooled, dedicated astronomy-camera. Whish you all the best for 2024 Luke, you deserve it.

Lists are great. I need to make my list as well. Really think theyre amazing and goal setting: something to focus on. This years list seems really good. As did last years list. If you want company for an astronomy trip hit me up. Would love a bit of that too.

Hey Luke, well done for doing 6 out of 10 on your 2023 list mate! I like lists, my problem is, I loose the list🤣 My 2024 resolution is, don’t loose the list!! Seriously though, some good points on your list for 24! Agreed about the news, I hardly watch any tv! And it’s good to just stop and take note of your surroundings! I really want to get more organised with my UA-cam channel this year, and create more, and better Astro video’s! But it’s not easy, so we’ll see! Must wright my list now, so where’s the pen?🤣 I hope 24 gives you what you want, happy new year to you and your family Luke! Clear skies!

Hey mate - Great to hear how much you've accomplished off the list Luke! I can definitely second the exercise one. My recommended strategy is have something like an exercise bike and just get straight on it out of bed and then add on anything else. Means you don't give yourself chance to talk yourself out of it. I try three times a week to do this, mostly it works.

Happy New Year Luke! Inspiring video. I get what you mean about mindfulness. I’ve been reframing it as ‘taking time to just BE.’
Best wishes for 2024 and don’t sweat it if you don’t cross off everything on your list. My gauge of success is not the achievement of the goals, but the pursuit. My aspirations often take me in completely different directions as I pursue them which result in the achievement of other equally meaningful things. So in reviewing what got done and what didn’t it’s important to be kind to myself and also note the other things I did as well 🙂

Happy New Year Luke! Thank you for all the tutorials. I really grew a lot this year from watching and learning from you. I love your 2024 goals and am just going to copy and paste. Hopefully you catch on to painting nebula quickly and can make some youtube tutorials of that process. I'm still trying to learn that as well. hahaha And I need to work on my 3rd language more so your list is definitely applicable here. I think astrophotography gives us the time and space to do mindfulness. I love that about this hobby.

i’ll echo what others have said too, great job getting so many things done on your list this year! i definitely agree with the mindfulness, i very much dislike the name and its association with spiritualism and all that, but it genuinely is really really important, i’ve got pretty severe depersonalization disorder and i can attest that without mindfulness there’s really not much to life, and practicing it will always be beneficial. ive just put together my first PC and last night got pixinsight and RC’s tools running, i’m very excited to start processing with them! that’ll be one of my goals, learn pixinsight to its full capacity, no doubt with the help of some of your tutorials ;)
this year for astro was pretty bummy for me, too many hospital stays and months spent in bed, so i’m with you on the astro trip as well, i’m going to commit to going south to the states to see my first total solar eclipse, i think that’ll make my whole year :) happy new years luke!

Hey mate hope you all have a happy new year & as for going back to painting you've gotta get a Bob Ross wig & do a video of those happy little trees!! I loved the wild camping videos they were hilarious although work is needed on the corn beef hash stew thing lol. Yeah I did some live streams it's a bit weird although I did give Ollie the inspiration for the ping of doom song 🤣 Anyhow you all take care clear skies!!

I started fishing again recently as I’m currently without a scope and have taken an Astro break for 5 months now. Nothing like getting out there in nature to re charge the batteries. As you say the benefits outlast the experience, great stress relief. All the best buddy

Happy new year mate! I also miss trips into the observatory ( you know, where the telescopes actually are lol ) and not just in the office :) I also want to do an astronomy adventure, maybe Tenerife in the autumn

Hi Luke sounds like a great list mate , one of the best things you can do mate is turn off the news and spend more time out in nature, like you say the mindfulness things sounds a bit out there but it really works we live in rural France and are building an off grid straw bale house, we both retired early to get more out of life and escape the rat race because it was killing us, we are now both in our sixties and still building lo,l but we enjoy most days , life's for living mate make the most of every day, would love to see more live stream EAA from you and seeing you painting live would also be great , also would be good to see you visit astronomical sites around the UK and maybe vist astronomy clubs , anyway mate I've gone on way to long hope you and yours have a great New Year

Thank you for all of your honesty and dedication, through good times and the tough times. Mindfulness, especially in nature has scientifically-proven health benefits, physical and mental. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I live in the country so it’s normally very quiet, especially this time of year. Listening to the sounds of nature, even the soft sounds, and paying attention to what’s happening around me in nature makes me feel alive and in tune with the universe. Any way just been watching your video about "to do lists" I went from never using them to using them too much and back too occasional use as I am at the moment, Physcologically they can be very damaging if you get them wrong, dont get me wrong but its brilliant that you are trying but please do me a little favour and do a little bit of quick research for yourself into the 1-3-5 technique !

Awesome. I do daily “to do” lists and it’s so productive. Much the same as you, I want to get out and do more nature/wildlife/landscape Astro next year.

Nice job Luke, and totally agree with you saying about mindfulness and excercise, I do both and helps no end, I go MTB twice a week and use an indoor Zwift trainer twice a week, and made a huge difference to me..I also use lists and it really does help.
I don’t watch any news ever, and never use social media, (apart from YT if that counts) which is the worst thing ever invented for anxiety…

First of all Happy New Year Luke and I hope this new year will be even better than the last. So much good information you spoke of in this video and aligns with some of my goals. One of those goals I achieved this year was to make new friends that share a common interest and I have to say astronomy and astrophotography is a awesome common language that is shared with many people all over the world so I have actually made friends all over the world! You and others have greatly contributed to the enjoyment of my life and I am greatly thankful for that! Yes mindfulness is a great way to recenter yourself and tune out off the of noise in our busy minds! Having a friend like you has inspired me to do things I never thought possible! I look forward to doing even more next year and one of those goals is to expand my silent YT channel to share my experience and knowledge.
