    Thanks! Great video! I just ran into this problem and followed this video to solve it! I manage oil spill equipment for the Norwegian Coastal Administration, and a lot of our equipment can go years without being used. Kinetic energy didn’t work for me unfortunately but a few very careful taps on top of the plunger worked very well.

    Mate, Followed the job through. Plunger had no feel. ,then pop moving freely. Acetone to taste., reassemble. Result expensive Genset worth something again. We are off grid and a long drought meant no generator time for 8 months. And then it wouldn't run on Christmas Eve, the first two days of rain since February. Result dinner by candlelight and warm beer. Two hours on Boxing day morning in the blazing sun , but it's running. Hope You and Yours have a Merry Christmas ans a prosperouse New Year. Mike H

    I've never had anything stuck on my Deutz 12-1 nor My Sichuan Sifa MB168F three horsepower. The later has never been bled since it was brand new. I just use the decompression lever and give extra pulls until I smell diesel through the exhaust. Ether can be dangerous for priming. On cold days, use hot water on the cylinder instead. American pump diesel is very clean to store long term. I've filtered fuel with a cotton ball. I start motors at a low throttle. Mount your project on plate aluminum, not a steel mess.

      Is there a spring at the back of the pump cup that rides on the cam? It sounds like there is not sufficient tension in the spring to cause the displacement of the plunger shaft once the engine picks up revs. Similar to floating valves on very high revving engines.

    Hi,
    Under the injecteur there is sealed setting !
    I suppose it is to adjust the flow of the pump.
    I think my engine gets to much flow. It makes exhaust pipe red and induces even flame out the exhaust...(when I stop engine decompressing the exhaust valve).
    What is your opinion of this matter or symtom ? Should I reduce the flow ?

    • @JoshKilen
      @JoshKilen Рік тому +2

      if they are the copper gaskets under the pump, those don't really affect the flow of the pump, that controls the final advance of the pump, the flow of the pump is controlled by the governor. check you valve lash. and you try and not use the decompression lever to stop the engine, use the the throttle lever to do so.

    G'day, I was given a Yanmar Chinese clone (186F) silent with only 21 hours on the meter. I collected a bucket of rats nest from inside the enclosure and re connected 4 electrical wires that were chewed in half The previous owner was moving abroad and didn't want to pay import tax on something that stopped working due to five years of neglect. The problem I have is with little compression and the fuel vapor blowing out of the intake manifold, I've bled the fuel pump and lines and the injector is working fine, low oil and fuel shut off switches are working and I have replaced the copper head gasket and adjusted the valve clearances but still no luck in getting it to run. Do you have any tips or tricks please?

    • @JoshKilen
      @JoshKilen Рік тому

      does it try to fire? and plus with little compression it might not fire. I wouldn't be surprised if the rings are stuck on the piston, preventing it from firing. in order to fix that the whole engine have to come all apart and the piston will have to come out to get them unstuck.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 7 місяців тому

      Sounds like potentially mentioned piston rings being stuck bleeding into crank case, but more over you mentioned the fuel vapor blowing out of the intake manifold. This sounds like stuck open or clogged intake valve, so press the valve manually to see if it moves, if not, that is clear indication, remove the head and see what the issue is. Another is just corrosion or debris between valve and valve seat requiring cleaning, valve lapping and then valve clearance adjustment. On the positive note least yours inject the fuel properly. My similarly abandoned clone had stuck injector pump to point of having corrosion from having open to air fuel intake hose and some moisture rusting and pitting the area where fuel flows in and after cleaning it does not produce enough flow or pressure and what little fuel it does pump goes out from injector return line.
      Another point of failure could be the injector seal in this particular unit, but stock injector is longer than 186F replacement that previous owner had ordered, well as fuel return outlet and intake being on wrong side to index pin, so need to delve into wtf the new injector even is, or the clone unit for that matter.

    Thanks for the info, I had the same problem with my 186FA engine it worked for 15 minutes then it stopped running suddenly.. Check air supply ok, injector is fine. So fuel pump may stop working after 15 minutes.. Help

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  6 років тому

      Hayder Qays - sorry for the late reply. Did you check the fuel? Old fuel can block the filter and starve the supply. Diesels are not fussy on air and if they don't have the right mix will just smoke a bit. If they are starved for diesel they will stop. Let me know how you get on

    My fuel pump is frozen stuck I tried the piece of wood but it's still stuck. Any suggestions appreciated, new fuel pump is on the way but I would prefer saving this one as a back up, engine was never used brand new has been sitting for 15yrs

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  2 роки тому

      Hmmm. Is it not moving at all or is there slight movement? Also, try tapping from each side of the pump as demonstrated in the video. It will work free eventually. You can also soak it in acetone or thinners to help remove any glazing causing it to stick.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 7 місяців тому

      @@kickinthegob Could also be moisture getting in trough the fuel intake and rusting the area on the rod. Mine would not move, so i removed the pin holding the peace surrounding the needle part and lovingly tapping the needle arm back and forth side to side got it moving, then pulling the spring assembly with hand while doing the same and covering whole thing with lubricant. Got it open and cleaned up but corrosion had pitted the rod on the point where it had gotten stuck so i presume this is causing lack of pumping, so probably need to replace the pump

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  2 роки тому

      It's likely that it's pulling air from one of the joins. Just nip it up the nuts and check for bubbles. They're a metal on metal seal and have to be fairly tight.

    Right now, i am struggling with a '15'hp 498cc yanclone..it won't give output! It is slower then the 13 hp engine.. have the gov. spring on outer holes, limitation screw totally removed, but bad cold start, low output and hardly any smoke/lacks fuel?)

    • @enfielddnepr
      @enfielddnepr 3 роки тому

      I even tried whithout fuel filter, swapped the pump for an other one, no smoke, no power.. installed the 188 winsun again. Too bad i was looking forward to a little extra power (i built the engine in an enfield motorcycle) The only thing i did not swap was the injector; It is uncertain what kind of gasket it has. Some have some kind of teflon(/) sleeve which is hard to replace..

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  2 роки тому

      @@enfielddnepr Sounds to me like you may have a blockage in an inline filter. These engines are pretty tough so it is likely a filter or injector blockage.

      @@kickinthegob Checked all this in first instance.. also replaced the fuel pump.. no effect..

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  2 роки тому

      @@enfielddnepr Have you checked that you are getting fuel through the injector? Be really careful when testing because it's possible to get an injection injury if you pull the starter with the injector out of it's housing.

    • @enfielddnepr
      @enfielddnepr 2 роки тому

      @@kickinthegob The high pressure line is free and has no blockage, the injector is tested and works good at the right pressure. This is done after it was discovered the -new- injector had RUST in it.. This only can occur whe it is assembled with rusty parts. (since an injector is closed at rest). I cannot find any reason why it is underperforming, but when an engine is assembled like this, maybe i should not expect more from it.. no more Chinese engines for me!

    Can you show/explain 'spill timing'of the pump on these engines?

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  6 років тому

      At 7:16, You can see the throttle slot that the needle engages or sits in. With the pump removed, you can move the needle arm left or right to adjust the pump. I think this is just for flow volume adjustment but I wouldn't imagine that spill timing should be adjusted on these engines under normal conditions.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 7 місяців тому

      @@kickinthegob Timing is adjusted by adding or removing metal shims between pump and the engine frame (dont ask how much but adding should increase delay and removing decrease the injection delay), though as mentioned not something that is normally done, while volume is adjusted by the needle thing and treaded rod/bolt on the bottom of the throttle mechanism adjusts the idle. Not a expert but what the previous owner of my unit told me.

    Hi, I've a Yanmar l100 from a pressure washer, now in a lawn tractor project. It wouldn't start after about 2 years laid up. I watched your video, bled the injector and it ran fine. It's pull start only btw. Restarted fine too but next day nothing, bled it, nothing, checked in the inspection window, looked ok but cleaned up the pump anyway, it was dirty but not siezed, reassembled, bled it through, still nothing. Any ideas?? Here's a video of it if that helps m.ua-cam.com/video/dBzbOgC_TjU/v-deo.html

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  8 років тому +1

      G'day Tractorhead. It sounds to me like air in your line. Even after you bled it, it might be air getting sucked in between the fuel pump and gasket or gasket and engine. Also, check your fuel filter. If you havn't changed the fuel out and cleaned your filter, you might have too little fuel and maybe even check the air filter. You have compression, so check fuel flow / fuel quality and air. Good luck and let me know how you get on.

    • @tractorhead971
      @tractorhead971 8 років тому

      Thanks for that Mr Kickinthegob, well it's a brand new air filter unit so that should be ok, and at the moment the fuel tank is removed and I've a direct gravity feed of fresh clean diesel to the pump so should be plentiful input. Have I even got a fuel filter? Don't think so... So that leaves the air sucking in at the gasket. Top suspect. By gasket do you mean the brass shim things visible when the pump is removed? Is there another gasket? Should I replace the shims with blue hylomar? Cheers

    • @kickinthegob
      @kickinthegob  8 років тому

      There is a fuel filter made of nylon mesh in the fuel tank. You are correct, the brass gasket could be the issue. Are you getting decent flow when you pull the chord with the fuel line off?

    • @tractorhead971
      @tractorhead971 8 років тому

      I've not seen one in good working order so nothing to compare with but I'd say it's a slow and feeble 'phutt' of diesel with line off not the rumoured high pressure jet that'll fire diesel right through your thumb (or is that only the injector?) Takes a lot of pulling before any diesel appears at the injector end (but it needs to fill the pipe I spose).
      Those brass gasket things ~ are they spacer shims or do they need to be airtight too? Does the crankcase need to pressurise maybe, seems to me the high pressure action all occurs inside the pump and the 3 bolts just locate it on the engine. As you may've noticed I'm no expert lol
