Believe it or not, I actually know someone who talks like Lindsay Lohan talks in 'The Parent Trap.' This girl's from London- (same as me), and to this day, I'm still waiting for her to say: "Just kidding!", and slip into broad Cockney, like I talk. Ha-ha!

Note to film studios: If the character is from a specific country (Such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia etc), have an actor or actress from that very country.
The United Kingdom isn't a country, and neither is Britain, despite what many people believe. The UK is a kingdom (hence the kingdom in its name) which includes England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Island. I hate when people get mixed up. It's simple geography, but America still refuses to learn it. P.S. I mostly agree with your statement, but if an actor is able to use a convincing accent, then they should still be hired. It's only when an accent is bad that a person from that country is needed. Rant officially over
I completely disagree as that is not necessary. Get actors who have the training and/or ability to learn accents, hire an accent and dialect coach and most importantly give them sufficient time to work on it. The major reason behind poor performance with accents is the actor not having enough time to perfect it and the directors/producers saying, "It'll do". Actors frequently need to learn new skills for roles, they're usually allowed sufficient time for this. Accents for some reason get little or no time allocated then the actor and film are criticised.
The UK is an independent country of 4 constituent countries just like the US is an independent state of 50 constituent states. If you don't understand that I can't help you.
The worst English accent ever is Charlie Hunnam in Green Street. His cockney accent is so bad I couldn’t continue watching the film. And he is English!
Remember "Robin Hood, Men in Tights"? Cary Elwes Robin Hood says something along the lines of "At least I have an English Accent" or somewhat? Leave it to Mel Brooks! 😂🤪
I’m British myself and one of the most things that annoys me is when people who are not British think that all we say is “crumpets” and “chereo” and that we all have a posh accent x
Bram Stoker's Dracula is considered a horror movie not because of the story but because of Keanu's Reeve's acting, plus Ryder and Oldman's overacting, and Hopkin's silly acting.
I feel sorry for Dick Van Dyke in this aspect. Nobody on the cast told him that "the accent needed a little improvement". But, I'm thinking it's because he's a great guy to work with AND that he's doing the best job possible. That's why in Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang, Dick decided to make the movie, on the condition that he doesn't have to use a fake accent
There is no such thing as a British accent. There are various regional accents, but no definitive British accent. What Hollywood percieves as a British Accent is actually the Received Pronounciation English accent.
As someone from the north of Scotland (which yes is part of Britain) I find the phrase British accent insulting. What they mean to say is stereotypical English accent.
I think it's slightly different as the UK is a country of countries ie. it is a 'country' made up of three countries and a province, which is Northern Ireland. All 4 have their own standard accents and many regional accents. Therr is no thing as one British accent and certainly not one that people in the arts have to follow.
I am from Scotland and this annoys me so much! I understand that it's an innocent mistake that many people make but Britain is made up of 4 DIFFERENT countries with completely different accents from each other. When people refer to a British accent they mean an English accent and even then there are so many different variations of an English accent besides the posh stereotype!
Angel of seitan no, I don't know one single Englishman who thinks Britain is only England. In fact it's always embittered Scots, Welsh and Irish who play the look at us we're British too card. The world seems Britain as England because we make up the vast majority of the population. It's just the way it is.
Don Cheadle's accent ain't actually that bad. He sounds like a Londoner who's moved about the U.K. a bit, and picked up bits and pieces of other U.K. accents- (which happens!) And "nausing" something up is actually a legit saying, and I oughta know, 'cos I use it, meself. o.o
@@CIMAmotor Mate, he's already tried to jump in and say Lindsey Lohan also did a good London accent and he's some sort of Cockney expert, whereas he's obviously a blatant plastic fas. Tbh, Lindsey wasnt too bad the fact was she needed an authentic British accent for 1 twin and then an obvious "exagerrated" one for the other, she honestly did a pretty good job differing the 2
I'm British and even I'm admitting that most of the brits in these comments are complete snobs 😂you try to do an 'american' accent, I'm pretty sure you can't because you're not from there so you won't be able to do it. Like I can't do a Spanish accent because I'm nit from there, so just give them a break?
And I believe that Lindsay Lohan did a GREAT accent-a lot better than Keanu Reeves. and she was only 11. Maybe she could have given him lessons even though she was only 5 when Dracula came out!
There are plenty of British actors who can do very good American accents and have had many Americans admit that they were shocked when they discovered they were British and not American. There are plenty of other examples of people doing brilliant accents that are not their own, so no just because you are not from a place doesn't mean you can't do the accent.
HowItOughtToBe I'm American and sometime when I'm watching a movie that has British actor talking with an English(American) accent in it, you can sometimes hear their accent.
What makes me laugh is Hugh grant, being English, pretending to talk like a regular British person. He sounds more like upper class snob doing a ‘funny’ copy of a real English accent.
What I don't understand is some of these actors were working with English actors. Why didn't the English actors tactfully give them pointers between takes? If I was English acting alongside somebody who sounded like a caricature, I don't know how I would be able to stay in character in the scene.
I don't know about the worst ones, but I have to say Daniel Radcliffe did a pretty great job with his on Horns. I was fully expecting it to suck, but was pleasantly surprised and impressed when I watched/heard it, especially considering that it's hard to disassociate his face from all the Harry Potter films. There were a few noticeable slip ups, but overall it was very good
As an American, I am embarrassed of all yalls comments. Let people have their fun. How are you coming on BRITISH watchmojo and commenting things that invalidate THEIR experiences?
Scandinavians are best at mimmicking english accent (it's not mimmicking but they're actually thought in school that way) Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau and Rebecca Ferguson pulls of english accent pretty well. They even speak like that on interviews.
Rome Blanchard You say that, but you clearly haven't heard the average Dane speak English. Still, Norwegians and Swedes are pretty fucking good, though Norwegians usually use a hard r like Americans.
Nikolaj Coaster-Waldau does a phenomenal English accent. Trying to listen for slip-ups when he speaks, as you do with everyone, and you just won't find any with him.
Most Scandinavians speak fairly good English to start with and a lot of their actors that make it in America would have acted in Britain first. There's a lot more movies and TV made in Britain than any other country in Europe.
When talking about worst attempts by an actor at an English accent, there are two that always instantly come to my mind: 1. Keanu Reeves in Bram Stoker’s Dracula 2. Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins
England is part of Britain. Therefore an English accent is a British accent. It's not that complicated. Especially considering the fact that English people represent the majority of the British population.
Britain is the name of the country. That's perfectly suitable. While English might be more specific, there is nothing wrong with calling them British accents, which is what some people have suggested. Can somebody have an American accent, or do I have to specify Southern American? Perhaps that offends Southern Americans so I have to specify Texas. Perhaps that offends some people in Texas so I have to specify Dallas. Perhaps that offends people in Dallas and I have to specify a south-side Dallas, Texas, American accent. That is the end result of your logic so I think I will continue to call them American and British accents and I will be as specific as I damn well want to be.
Yes I know, I'm from the UK. So if I want to call my own accent British rather than English, then that's none of your business. England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales are not separate countries, they are constituent regions that were historically separate countries. Its as equally pedantic to point out that somebody has a Kentucky accent, not a US accent. Canada and Mexico are separate countries from the US. In my example, they were all sub-regions of the same country. Its funny that you are pointing that my example was bad when in fact yours was the terrible one.
As an American let me just say we don't mean any harm about the whole: British or English thing. I am pretty sure you have heard a Boston accent, New York accent, or Californian accent and just called it an American accent and we don't complain about that. At least we aren't calling Scottish accents English accents etc.. If England is in Britain, then it is still accurate to say that it's a British accent.
These give me bad flashbacks to when I had to do a Scottish accent for my school play and I sounded horrible, omfg. At least I wasn't made fun of like another kid who everyone said sounded like Shrek, lmao.

a guy Yes but let’s face it, the term British Accent is meaningless because it could mean any accent from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales so it’s daft to use the expression when you really mean one specific accent, and this vid consists only of English accents, so it should specify that, really.
Jon Treasure Yes it is. Southern Ireland isn’t.
Believe it or not, I actually know someone who talks like Lindsay Lohan talks in 'The Parent Trap.' This girl's from London- (same as me), and to this day, I'm still waiting for her to say: "Just kidding!", and slip into broad Cockney, like I talk. Ha-ha!
There's so much watchmojo commentary, you barely get to hear the accents
I thought Lindsay Lohan's accent was pretty good. The way she went from American to English in the same scene was incredible.
these aren't british accents, they're english
eim I'm an American, I didn't know there was a difference. Can you explain?
Krista Miller Britain is a Union of 4 countries England, Scotland, wales, northern Ireland each with their own accent so obviously Scotland is British but they have a Scottish accent as is England British but have English accent
Krista Miller but within England there are still a load of accents, like northern or cockney or west country etc
England is in Britain. Therefore British accent in the same way it's a European accent and Earthling accent
Krista Miller "I'm an American, I didn't know there was a difference" - That pretty much epitomizes everything.
Josh hartnett looked like Loyd from dumb and dumber.
MalonsMilk Lloyd is how you spell it 😂
LMFAO!! He does!
I like it a lot!
Kevin Costner wasn't even trying in Robin Hood.
This is watch mojo. We’re going to listen to some accents, then talk over the accents, then we will explain what’s wrong with the accents and move onto the next accent. Please like and subscribe!
I’m letting Keanu Reeves ‘accent’ slide because he’s just awesome
Omg it's so weird to hear Shia LaBeouf doing a British accent
Yes
Natalie Portman did really good actually
i didn't think so hhahahah
Note to film studios: If the character is from a specific country (Such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia etc), have an actor or actress from that very country.
Disagree, get better actors or a better dialect coach.
Why do you think the United Kingdom isn't a country?
The UK is an independent country of 4 constituent countries just like the US is an independent state of 50 constituent states. If you don't understand that I can't help you.
The worst English accent ever is Charlie Hunnam in Green Street. His cockney accent is so bad I couldn’t continue watching the film. And he is English!
😂😂😂🤣🤣 still loved that film tho..
Isn’t he from Newcastle Upon Tyne, though?
He has the strangest voice I’ve ever heard... so weird u never hear that accent in the UK do ya?
Green Street is just a film for edgy 14 year olds who think they're tough. I should know I was one of them xD
Like some Americans who come from the north (New York for example) trying to speak like they come from the south or vice versa.
Natalie Portmans accent is fine it's just very well spoken
I expected Kevin Costner in Prince of Thieves to be on this list. His fake "accent" was hilariously awful and terribly inconsistent.
i never realised he was putting on an accent at all I thought it was kevin costner playing kevin costner not trying to play robin hood
His "Robin Hood" is in the video but for some unknown reason did not make the Top10, which he richly deserved=RECOUNT!
Gary L, agreed.
Remember "Robin Hood, Men in Tights"?
Cary Elwes Robin Hood says something along the lines of "At least I have an English Accent" or somewhat? Leave it to Mel Brooks! 😂🤪
Yeah, I thought they just didn't bother and he played the role with a US accent.
Yeah, but no one expected Dick Van Dyke to play a believable accent in Mary Poppins anyway. It’s just an enjoyable movie.
Well I think British people did.
@@pwnage1731 Several British actors were offended by it actually.
I think Lindsay Lohan is actually quite good at doing an English accent, especially for her age.
Trojan Bellariso in the PLL finale 😂
Louise Esam Truth
you read my mind 😂😂
But Natalie Portman's accent was good???
it sounded so pleasant and elegant.
wait... natalie portman isn't british?!!
Ivan Kalami She's Israeli-American.
keira knightley is British. They do look alike.
Melody Clark for a moment I thought it was her 😂
Melody Clark Funnily enough, Keira Knightley played Queen Amidala's (Natalie Portman) decoy in Phantom Menace because they looked so alike!
I can't believe I never noticed that before!
Gwyneth Paltrow in every film she's supposed to speak British accent is like all of these.
The parent trap was actually good.
I actually liked Dick Van Dyke's accent in Mary Poppins! It sort of matched his goofy character.
What they mean to say is stereotypical English accent.
exactly the same here f1boogie... and you'd think a uk version of mojo would know this but apparently not.
I think it's slightly different as the UK is a country of countries ie. it is a 'country' made up of three countries and a province, which is Northern Ireland. All 4 have their own standard accents and many regional accents. Therr is no thing as one British accent and certainly not one that people in the arts have to follow.
Salvador... what an idiot comment.
Those are all English accents. No Scottish, Welsh or any from the six counties.
Panda what you expect...the snobs of England have fooled the Americans into thinking everyone in Britain speaks like they are of Downton Abbey.
So? Still British accents. Just not specific in the title. It'd be equivalent to calling them European accents or Earthling accents.
Kaizer-Man indeed they are still British accents, just pointing out that some people especially in England will only count England as Britain.
Angel of seitan no, I don't know one single Englishman who thinks Britain is only England. In fact it's always embittered Scots, Welsh and Irish who play the look at us we're British too card. The world seems Britain as England because we make up the vast majority of the population. It's just the way it is.
purpleanex Northern Irish. They are British, please do not throw us all in there.
Russell Crowe in Robin Hood certainly deserves a spot on the list. He made an English hero sound Irish.
natalie portman did a good job I thought, and I'm British.
The worst British accent on TV is on Pretty Little Liars! Worse than all of these!
Zoe Corner omg agreed!!!!! Troian butchered the accent 😂
Omg yes, sounded Aussie most of the time!
I don't remember her speaking with an accent. I only heard American.
Don Cheadle's accent ain't actually that bad. He sounds like a Londoner who's moved about the U.K. a bit, and picked up bits and pieces of other U.K. accents- (which happens!) And "nausing" something up is actually a legit saying, and I oughta know, 'cos I use it, meself. o.o
it's awful
IF he was a Cockney pre 1960! Don's dodgy accent also makes him sound like he's a couple of sandwiches short of a full picnic :D
He was playing a dude disgused as another dude.
@@CIMAmotor Mate, he's already tried to jump in and say Lindsey Lohan also did a good London accent and he's some sort of Cockney expert, whereas he's obviously a blatant plastic fas. Can't stand fucking home counties mockneys.
He's blatantly from Staines, Surbiton, Sidcup or some other khazi with some moody postcode made up of the letters from the shithole commuter town where he grew up, dreaming about living in London one day.
Don't ever come around Londoners and try to flannel us like that, you absolute tryer.
im british and i had no fucking clue the one from mary poppins wasn't british
You probably grew up watching it and became too familiar with it to realize. It was widely mocked at release but now occupies a place in all British people's hearts.
Lindsey Lohan as Hermione on SNL was pitch perfect. 👌
I actually really liked Cheedle's accent in Ocean's Eleven, I thought he sounded pretty good
Me too, I thought he was pretty good actually
Are you American or deaf? His accent is literally the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Its like he has never actually met someone from London, let alone the east end of London, just merely read about the in books.
I'm American and I can do a better English accent. I still struggle with the Welsh however
Welsh is basically speaking like you're thinking breathing, and can't stop so you exhale more than you do when it's natural.
David Taylor Yeah, because all English and Welsh accents are the same right?
English accent? Which one? xD
David Taylor I'm Welsh
+FinleyPerry06 Roblox & More! & +Gaming With Kallum I'm feel so sorry for you guys.
Cassey johnn I never said you couldn't? I just said there are plenty of people who can do accents other than their own flawlessly
HowItOughtToBe what? I was just stating that I can sometimes hear British people and their accents, I thought it was just funny
Even actors who do good English accents I always feel like they make it sound too posh especially with their Os lol
What makes me laugh is Hugh grant, being English, pretending to talk like a regular British person.
He sounds more like upper class snob doing a ‘funny’ copy of a real English accent.
Si Winstanley aren’t people from London English?
What I don't understand is some of these actors were working with English actors. Why didn't the English actors tactfully give them pointers between takes? If I was English acting alongside somebody who sounded like a caricature, I don't know how I would be able to stay in character in the scene.
If you have seen Pretty Little Liars I would like to ask Julian Morris that exact question
How does one go about looking 'too american' for a role?
Exactly the way Josh Hartnett does in that film!
orange skin and unnaturally white teeth
Haley B Josh Hartnett is actually super American-looking. He’s right. - “as American as apple pie”
The best was Tarzan's american accent when he was learning English with the Brits :v
Imagine insulting our lord and savior Keeanu Reeves. Absolutely pathetic.
I feel like his accent in that movie was actually pretty good
NO I'm sorry but NO! Lindsey Lohan did not deserve to be on this list
What about Top 10 Worst Fake American Accents?
Sounds like a great idea Patrick Lange.
Patrick Lange Parents from a Troll in Central Park (insert Nostalgia Critic link).
Patrick Lange Emma Watson in "Perks of being a wallflower"
The little twit on Eastenders. What was his name? Preston?
I don't know about the worst ones, but I have to say Daniel Radcliffe did a pretty great job with his on Horns. I was fully expecting it to suck, but was pleasantly surprised and impressed when I watched/heard it, especially considering that it's hard to disassociate his face from all the Harry Potter films. There were a few noticeable slip ups, but overall it was very good
I’ve never cringed so much in my British life.
You would think Keanu would be great as his mum was English xx
Scarlett Fox apparently not. I can just hear them at home: "Oi Keanu, eat yer bloody greens" "Awww, mom!"
Matt Don't be silly Matt, yes I'm British. Whereabouts are you from? To say "bloody" is hardly used is ludicrous
Matt Im from the midlands and that is generally how we talk
but what do you meen by here
all were saying is you cant speak for all of england we're all different
As an American, I am embarrassed of all yalls comments. Let people have their fun. How are you coming on BRITISH watchmojo and commenting things that invalidate THEIR experiences?
James Franco putting on a terrible accent suits the movie perfectly so I wouldn't be surprised if they consciously decided not to do a proper one
I'm British and I always thought the guy from Ocean's 11 was a real Brit too.
Hence the success of bands like Abba and Aha in the UK (though Abba made a few grammar errors.
Most Scandinavians speak fairly good English to start with and a lot of their actors that make it in America would have acted in Britain first. There's a lot more movies and TV made in Britain than any other country in Europe.
Couldn't disagree more about Lindsay Lohan's accent in The Parent Trap. She did a great job!
WHAT!! I loved Lindsey’s accent 😂 she was like 10 come on hahaha
When talking about worst attempts by an actor at an English accent, there are two that always instantly come to my mind:
1. Keanu Reeves in Bram Stoker’s Dracula
2. Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins
More like ''Top 10 Worst Fake English Accents in Movies''
England is in Britain. Therefore any English accent is a British accent.
England is part of Britain. Therefore an English accent is a British accent. It's not that complicated. Especially considering the fact that English people represent the majority of the British population.
Except you did when you complained that these were English accents, not British accents. English accents are British accents. That is fact.
What?! Lindsay Lohan did a good job. I'm a Brit, and when I watched that movie as a 10 year old I thought she was British too!
I don’t think you needed to…
Wolves, chasing me through some blue infornew" Lmfao. Maybe he needed a few more years post-Bill & Ted 😂
These give me bad flashbacks to when I had to do a Scottish accent for my school play and I sounded horrible, omfg. At least I wasn't made fun of like another kid who everyone said sounded like Shrek, lmao.
The worst British accent on this clip is the voiceover. Also you missed out Green Street.
James Franco did a decent English accent in Tristan and Isolde. Wonder what in the hell happened between that and Your Highness
Who is hear from the Vanity Fair Video?
Just me ok bye...
Davygreat me
As soon as I saw the title of the video...I knew Keanu would be on the top spot😂😂
2:36 Natalie is DEFINANTLY going to pay no mind to what sick jokes are being offered in Watchmojo videos.
