After buying the starter set, the core rulebook and "The Grey Knight" campaign, I picked up a lovely faux-leather bound copy of "Le Morte D'Arthur" and plan to play Pendragon solo and journal my adventures in the style of Thomas Malory.
It was weird. The first time I read through character creation I was overwhelmed, and there is a LOT which needs to be tracked. But the more I chewed the more I appreciated how it melds role-playing with mechanics. All those values aren’t just, “What can I spam the baddies with?” It’s, “How would this character act?” And I do like that. Also, combat is just…different…and it’s cool.
Woot! Pendragon is probably the Chaosium game/BRP variation that I'm least familiar with (that they currently produce), but one I'm definitely interested in exploring more. I love how opinionated it is. I like how it really embraces on the sort of high-strung, emotional, fickle, semi-sociopathic characters of Arthurian mythology. I've only played a single session of it (2nd ed, maybe?), and it was someone's homebrew samurai game that used the same system.
@@DMTalesTTRPG Still used the d20, roll under variation of the BRP system but this edition really speaks to Greg Staffords vision and how he wanted to streamline those rules to truly bring the feeling of King Arthur's Britain to the tabletop for a new generation. I only wish the he had been able to see the fruits of his labor on his magnum opus.
20:54 - About playing Pendragon for a season or two: I'd be happy to run you in something like this. I'm still learning 6th edition, but I have been running Pendragon 5.2 for years.
The cover art is Gawaine & the mounted knight is the Green Knight. Excellent review.
Thank you for the info. And thank you for the kind words!

As you know, I got the Start Set. Pretty excited to look through it.
That was a serious score!
nice breakdown of the system. Never played, but seen it played before online.
Can certainly be fun with a good group
I think I would like to try it!

A character’s personality, and how intense it can become, is such a central concept to the game.
I love Pendragon, so when this new edition was announced, I had to put in my preorder. Thank You for this deep dive and review. 😊
Thanks for watching. I heard this edition is somewhat streamlined compared to previous editions. Is this something you noticed?
@@DMTalesTTRPG Definitely streamlined.
@@dangarthemighty0980 and now I am fascinated. Were previous editions percentile based?

@@dangarthemighty0980 it’s really well done, and it’s great the Chaosium has the rights to it again.

Ohhhhh, in the new year if we can work this out that would be nice.
Well. I’m sold!!
Well cool
I love the knights theme!
Yah, it’s on my radar.
Check out heroic too . Sean ( mage’s musing ) has played it.
Will do.
Hi Wes. Maybe take a look at Runequest RPG from Chaosium. More of a fantasy RPG.
Oh, it’s on my “to get.”
If this is your first Chaosium book (coming from, presumably D&D?) then this is probably akin to a blind man seeing for the first time :D
Its my first Chaosium book, but I left D&D behind a while ago. It just took me a while to get to Chaosium as I explored different publishers.
Have you heard of mythic bastionland?
I have! I do not own it yet.
