28:32 Just a small correction, but that's Red Smoke in the pipes (the sleeping gas CatNap uses). Back in Chapter 3, we find a machine that produces Red Smoke in Playcare, and our goal the entire chapter was to redirect this Red Smoke into this place for a mostly unknown reason. Around 5:34, you can even glimpse a cloud of Red Smoke pouring into an open prison cell.
I get your point Nervous, but I don’t think it’s totally fair because we can have these same discussions with FNAF throughout the 10 years. Unless I’m missing something, there wasn’t any hints towards sister location and the Funtime animatronics in the first 4 games. The mimic was thrown at us as well. A lot of it was vague early on until we got books and more games to connect the dots. I also think each game built upon the lore regardless if the big bad of the chapter weren’t known prior. Poppy Playtime feels like Silent Hills 2 plot in a FNAF aesthetic. We have the player character going back to a place in the past where they face their sins and each chapter dives into each aspect he had a hand in creating. Each chapter adds more lore and background to the Prototype, player character, the orphanage, the monsters, and the key human characters. Also I wouldn’t be surprised that toys get made that doesn’t make it to the marketing level where it’s experimental. Nightmare critters can easily just be the company trying to make edgy critters for a different age group, but decided to go with Smiling Critters. Also some toys in the basement could just be random toys purely made to experiment with possession. All in all, I don’t think your criticisms are wrong, but too early to levy at them just yet
I think it's different bc FNAF didn’t give hints about next game bc every time it was "This is the last game in the series". Poppy knows that there will be more chapters so they can give us this hints (but they don't).
FNAF 1-4 took place in completely different locations from one another I wouldn't expect Freddy's to advertise for Circus Baby's or their other restaurants for that matter Poppy Playtime 1-4 are all in the exact same factory and since it's a toy factory wherein the first however many floors are covered in advertising - it's just a bit unrealistic that they don't have any advertising for the NC. If the lore shows they were never released that's fine, but we haven't been given that info yet either and iirc the PP book has a bunch of rejected toy ideas and the NC aren't in there either. All that to say, we don't have to agree and fwiw I have critiques of the Mimic too, but it was objectively teased in Security Breach via a duffel bag note and the concept of a "mimicking" entity was introduced back in Help Wanted 1 when it mimicked Tape Girl's voice to trick the player into letting Glitchtrap (who seems to be an instance of the mimic virus) out.
@@ShesNervous I don’t disagree with you overall. I’m just saying it may make sense later on similarly to early FNAF where we had little proof, but had circumstantial evidence to form a coherent story. Apparently the studio has been prepping chapter 4 to be the big turning point, so maybe we’ll get explanations. That’s why I’m not outright disagreeing with you, but saying it may be too early as of now. Maybe it will be valid if chapter 4 doesn’t address any of these questions. FNAF is in a tier of their own, but I think Poppy Playtime has done a good job with its central mystery and plot. Continuity that you brought up could be an issue with some toys not being seen anywhere. Maybe smiling critters’ posters on the main floor wasn’t shown due to recalls. Maybe nightmare critters never made it to mass production. A lot of maybes, but not a lot of backing evidence for sure. Maybe I’m way too patient😅
@@tajemniczanazwa5280 Poppy doesn’t give direct hints to the next antagonist, but they do hint at what is next indirectly. I do agree they can do a way better job at setting up the next chapter because it can feel disjointed been them
I think Playtime Co. pulled an Aperture Science and bought a disused salt mine or something equally silly. Also, yes, please do a deep dive before it comes out.
21:27 I think the main reason I thought they weren’t was cuz I thought baba chops was a reference to sheeprampage (which has since been debunked) and then part way through the reveals one of the mods/developers was like “really? Y’all hating on a side character?” (That is incredibly paraphrased, like that is a vibes read only, it is INCREDIBLEY paraphrased) But at least to longer time fans, they’d have known that the main enemy is one of the last things to be advertised (for chapter 3 it was the gas masks and then the smiling critters and then catnap) I got the feeling they were attempting to teach (or at least this is ABSOLUTELY the lesson that children (poppy playtimes major audience) should learn) that you shouldn’t just hate and be angry without seeing the full picture (either the marketing for previous chapters or waiting till they’re all released) Hopefully at the very least the younglings learned to look into the history of things (especially in media that takes place in the past) like hastily thrown together antagonist groups to milk a money machine (which I have no doubts that mob fully took advantage of) or even the weird smelly shit toys were made of in the 90s and that would absolutely NEVER fly nowadays Man, I miss teaching; and this franchise would be a great teaching tool
Honestly would love you to check out more poppy playtime stuff, I have been basically following all the ARGS of the games and its super interesting and it gives so much life to overall story, it's actually insane.
The first thing out of my mouth when seeing the nightmare critter was, ohhh no it looks like the success of the smiling critters has gone to there head... I'm in no way being mean when I say they have made questionable decisions like when they used NFTS in the past. I hope I'm really wrong and they did somethings diffrent. I need them to prove me wrong. Also if you chose to do the Args I'll be here to listen to them.
Yes please I would love to see a video of you reading the poppy playtime tv tropes website I am always recommending this website for Poppy Playtime information
I agree I do wish they would use some of their CH 1 and CH 2 characters more. We haven't seen much of CatBee or CandyCat some of these characters need more backstory or just more use. Not sure why Mob is bringing in more characters when they've got others from the start that need more development. I love how CatNap has become the Shadow the Hedgehog/Zuko of the franchise and yet people are excited to see Huggy Wuggy again. I am sick of Huggy myself yes I understand that he is the mascot of Playtime Co. as well as Mob Entertainment. But the Huggy Wuggy encountered in CH 1 has no backstory. We don't even know the name of the kid/employee that was turned into Huggy. So why should we care about BBI Huggy this much? Drawn three pictures of Yarnaby here on my YT channel. Already love his backstory and simple character to draw and I'm enjoying the drawing tutorials for Yarnaby here on YT. I hope he gets as much respect as CatNap does I can't wait to see how the player character P.W.'s story is going to end as well. Will he lose and become another pawn of Dr. Sawyer or will he win and save everyone?
First of all, I came for the reaction, stayed for the internet etiquette. Wonderully said. Secondly, I am getting very fatigued with the Marvel approach to storytelling. I do not have the time to sink all my attention into five different games, a book, and an arg just to figure out what is supposed to be one, singular, horror story. Poppy Playtime, to me, has a by the numbers "Frankenstein" meets "Jurassic Park" plot. And, to be honest, I'd rather just go re-read those books. I keep returning to Poppy Playtime out of curiosity but then, much like you, feel disappointed that nothing comes around. The only thing that does is The Prototype, who reamins the ultimate Dr. Claw but without a personality.
you summed up my feelings so well! idk why FNAF doesn't feel that way to me, but I think it's because the books (to me) are interesting in their own right without the connection to the bigger picture. The Mimic was the first time a major antagonist was first introduced in the books and frankly it's why it is my least favorite antagonist.

Legitimately, I didn’t give a shit about poppy playtime (at least past watching let’s plays) until I watched play throughs for chapter 3 and fell in love with catnap. I had just lost my grandmother within the first week or two of its release and I was caring for my elderly cat at the time. I used Catnap to help shoulder some of the grief while my cat was still alive. They’ll always be one and the same for me; my cat passed in June (kinda ruined pride month for me) and I had him for 18 years-ish. Catnap brings back his passed months and helped me cope and grieve. Plus, 3 went hard core in ways that genuinely surprised me. So I’m in it for the long haul. They do crazy fun args, that have been entertaining to watch other people solve. I mostly say all this shit, cuz I want you to know that you DONT have to be interested, put energy into, or make theories, just cuz you’re a horror theorist. I get the, use what you got angle, and felt that way towards catnap. Now, I get why they have the new characters they’re retroactively trying to tie into the lore; they’ve gotten better at character design and development and have outgrown their old toys (lmao) So it doesn’t bother me too much, especially since lore wise half the toys were BBI before they were actual toys … I got super side tracked and lost the plot. Don’t worry about covering the game if it doesn’t spark interest in you, most the fans have been were you stood (probably) okay i seriously can’t keep track of my thoughts so im gonna chill on the word vomit Have fun and stay safe and sane my dude!
Sorry to anyone who got a million ads. I've cut them down. UA-cam picked the spots and it was doubling up for some reason.
NAAAH GET THAT BAG
I wouldn't be surprised if at the very bottom there's just a giant cathedral with an eldritch creature being held captive
tbh that would pull me all the way back in 😂
0:21 Oh. Ngl I thought these were someone’s edgy ocs I didn’t realize they were official 😭
"A rat..?" *looks again* "A rat maybe..?" WOMAN HOW BIG ARE RATS WHERE YOURE FROM?!?!

Just want to say that so far it hasn’t been confirmed if Yarnaby is the actual main antagonist or not. Some hints show it could be someone else :)
ohhhhhh man i am so behind w/the lore

oooh like the kids' drawings? i would be interested in seeing those!
