Thanks for the info, I suggest that Chessie Special (Reading) 2101 and probably C&O 614 may have used some type of 5-chime. Take this... I was watching whistle videos of the Frisco Silver Dollar Line, and they have a D&RGW 5-Chime that sounds just like the C&O 614 during the 1980s. So I would suggest it's either that kind of 5-Chime whistle, or another type similar in size that will make the same sounded notes...
I have seen video here on UA-cam of 2101 using a Reading 6-chime while on the Southern Rathole, and much later on in Langhorne, PA and along the CNJ main going towards Saucon Creek. Check out those videos.😊
@@jltrain-zgamingrailfan202x3 According to Ross Rowland, the whistle used on the 2101 and the 614 was a custom 6 chime built by Bob Swanson, the founder of Airchime Ltd. It was commissioned by Chessie VP-Casualty Prevention William F. Howes Jr., and was designed to sound like Airchime's new Nathan K5LAs. Apparently, the Chessie was the first railroad to use K5LAs, and it seems that Mr. Howes still owns the whistle to this day. Six chime for life.
Right you are!
The fact AFT 1 has the same whistle as Chessie 2101…
Yep. I've heard it's a homemade steam whistle based on the K5LA.
Loved the Demos Whistles on the Reading T1’s.
I find it odd and a bit irritating that the whistle cuts out half way through for a very short time on the long blasts.

2101 while on the Freedom Train used a Reading 6-chime, not the Chessie Steam Special whistle. Just saying.😊

Most people say it's a stainless-steel B&O 5-Chime that was mounted on both locomotives...
