This was one of my favorite videos you have done. The stream was beautiful and the colors of the trout were some of the best I have seen. As a 67 year old it's hard for me to get into these places. Keep doing it so I can too thru your trips...thanks for going over your setup.
The trout at 14:15 experienced a period in its younger life where it was not getting enough food. As a result, it became stunted. Possibly it was trapped in a pool with more aggressive trout. This occurs with aquarium fish as well. The stunted growth is permanent yet the fish continues to grow with a disproportionate body and head. This is common with brook trout because the small bodies of water they inhabit tend to contain very little vegetation or aquatic insect life.
Thanks for not naming this spot. Truly is a hidden gem, yet can be found publicly. My favorite brookie fishing in the whole state of WV. Red chubbys work amazing if you ever go there again. Don’t know what it is but it’s only the red ones. Tried different colors on the same rig and they only went for that one. Beautiful content!
Thank you man! I definitely plan on exploring it a bit more this month but a lot higher up. It truly is a special creek though, and thanks for watching!

the rod/line wiggle works incredibly well with top water bass flies too (bugle bullets, sam's one bug, etc...). one or two pops right after casting and then mostly wiggles is my technique.
@@hardmanfishing Indeed, beautiful I'm normally a catch-keep-and-eat guy, but I'd say that if you're going to release them, probably best not to drag them across dry rock or dry fallen trees.

I'm heading out tomorrow to a gem of a pond in the Adirondacks that has Adirondack heritage native brookies (Windfall strain), and this time of year the males will be absolutely gorgeous. It's not unusual for them to measure 15"+.
Those are some of the prettiest fish I've seen in a stream. We have some nice coloured trout over here in the UK but those you have there are prettier than ours. Your Creek also reminds me of a stream I have near me in Wales but we have a big problem with otter (Not so much the otter but those who re-introduce them without realising what an apex predator can do without having it's numbers controlled). Great video again. Please keep them coming, our trout season has just finished, so it's great to watch others.
Good watch. My best stream for brooks was lost. The fish just disappeared. Caught as many as 50 in a day some reaching 11 in big heads. It was the right hand fork of the Catawba River off Old Fort mountain N.C. Never figured out why it dried up.
“Almost Heaven” as they say! Well…maybe the people who started that saying didn’t come across this creek! They may have gotten close 😅😅….. sick vid as usual….. come join me to hunt brookies in the Catskills soon bro! ⏱ 👍
I really enjoyed the video! The Brookie with the large head is an old trout .. It's likely his last season, & in the 5 year class .. When they get old, they aren't able to compete with smaller ones that they once dominated .. So they begin losing weight .. I've seen this many times with natives in the 11-13" class, at times a 10", usually late summer/early fall bc of the lack of aquatic insect hatches over the summer .. I've seen it many times with big old Browns, but rainbows to a much lesser extent...They have an extra muscular lobe of flesh absent in Brooks, or Browns, so it's probably not as noticable ... I've heard the tail mark dating story all my life but as far as I've been able to tell, it's not 100%, but will give you an idea that you can't count on as well as just length..(which isn't 100% either lol) .. But a 3.75-4.5" Native Mid Appalachian Brook (Char) is a 2 year old, and believe it or not, most are sexually mature, & able to spawn that 2nd season! Cool video man! 👍🐬🎣🌳🎶😎
