Never “let” a child win. When my children were able to beat me at something….. they took pride. The look of joy and love in their eye was amazing. Earned victory is always sweeter!
yeah, I’m 66 years old and I have this memory of playing go fish when I was a kid and I didn’t win so I started crying. My dad started to comfort me saying it’s just a game it’s just a game. But you have to learn you don’t get to win all the time.
@mcadoovicky6465 while I agree that children shouldn't win every time, there should be a balance. As a kid my younger brother by two years was an athlete and was much faster and stronger than me. I also wasn't athletically inclined either and was born with a medical condition that made running difficult. My brother was competitive too and would play his best every time so I could never beat him...and that got old. So I kinda grew up not liking sports because I always lost and it seemed I was fighting a losing battle. (A competition when your opponent is leagues ahead of you and impossible to beat is not a competition at all.) However cause he was my sibling, I still played with him because it's like what he liked to do. And when you have only one sibling with different interests than you, you have to learn to compromise. So what helped me was not taking it seriously and just having fun. In that way, I could kind of enjoy it and spend time with my brother. And he was the one who would pitch a fit when he lost at a board game or a video game lol.
I have to agree with this principle. My husband never lets me win when we play chess. He is super good at it so when I beat him oh the feeling is so glorious. It’s so much more satisfying knowing you earned your win. It teaches that losing is important for progression. The more I lost the more I poured into learning tactics and strategies until I could finally beat him.
Tbh, I mostly agree with concept. People underestimate what children can do. And that sets them up for not giving it their all. And pushing themselves. I mostly got good at stuff as a child. Because people didn't go easy on me. I played video games with older siblings and my own father. Neither of them went easy on me. I ended up beating my older siblings ruthlessly to the point he raged quit. Why? I learned and used his own tactics against him. I stopped complaining. And went quiet. He didn't see it as a warning it was. Until it led to him dying repeatedly. The whole time, I was studying the hell outta him. I eventually got so good at some his games. He had to come to ME. his younger SISTER. to help HIM out when he was playing alone. Imagine being in highschool, and needing your ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SISTER. To help you beat a game you got stuck on. Kids are SPONGES. They just don't know it yet. I also raced a 6'2 tall man at 11 years old at full speed. I managed to get neck and neck and couldn't push no harder. I won tho because I had more endurance. And he gave up and wore himself out. Yall please. Children have so much unlocked potential. This is a fact. The brain is more easily adaptable than an adults. Also to add. I am NOT for over pushing a child. There's a healthy balance. Just push them to give it their absolute all, every, single time. Not just let them win.

That’s awesome. My wife’s an elementary schoolteacher teaching the 5th grade. The kids love her for a couple reasons. We came from a correctional background, so she knows how to be firm but fair, but a big reason is she’s the only one that goes out and plays with the kids during recess.
I would have paid for the pizza party for just the wholesome fun memory of this moment with my students!😂❤
