Considering the industry mean is anywhere between 10 - 17 pilots per aircraft the pilot numbers are actually conservative...It is interesting to note that Virgin signed an interline agreement with KQ in July of this year, joined SkyTeam in September of the same year...and the pilots going on strike and stonewalling in November... seems a little too neat, as far as coincidences go, and more like a power play for either a hostile take over or to water down the price of an already struggling airline so someone can come buy it for a song..and incase anyone is not in the know the single largest recurrent cost to any airline after fuel is pilot training and certification...there is a sinister game afoot...
Allan is a very focused CEO and he has shown that he's there for the good of the airline it's not about him. He's looked at the bigger picture ready to take responsibility for any decision he will make and isn't willing to compromise or impress anyone! Difficult place to be at based on the past reputation of KQ. Keep it up you're one of the few visionary leaders who standout!
Anyone who fly via Kenya Airways know that it's employees are not well remunerated. They all look and act demotivated. It's no wonder they are striking
Question for you? Who are you comparing KQ employees to? Let's first in my opinion compare them to their counterparts in Africa and see where they rank in remuneration against other African airlines. Then you will begin to see that KQ employees are some of the highest paid in Africa.
How does a whole airline which started in 1977 as it shows in google but was privatized in 1996 and only owns 2 aircraft....Aaaiii KQ iwache mchezo, Allan sounds dedicative but actions need to prove that and we need to hear the pilot's pia.
KQ just needs to change its business model and adopt the model of Ethiopia/ Emirates/ Rwanda airlines where they are 100% run by government that's why they are profitable.
I think the pilots have done a disservice by striking coz this is the same employer they want to pay them yet the strike is going to cause the airline to sink deeper into debt. It doesn't make sense. Why not go on a go slow while you still negotiate so that the airline is not bleeding money that you so dearly need. I am a Kenyan and I want to be proud of my countries airline like Ethiopia and Rwanda airways. I definitely agree this is economic sabotage. I agree that the pilots should be involved with day to day operations in the airlines. Another thing I agree with the pilots that the airlines should have departments that cater for tourism, cargo, etc.

This will never end because of the CBA. CBA's the world over is a yoke on all the companies that have them in effect. You know a company like Amazon does not have CBA's or unions. I bet you Emirates or Ethiopian don't have such things and that's the reason they are profitable airlines.
This is the sad part where 39 planes are leased to us and we are paying them exorbitant amount literally milking our coffers dry. This is not feasible at all unless we change our mindset
Owning aircrafts is not necessarily a profitable venture as it comes with the burden of maintenance. In fact, many airlines are leasing. Its a matter of getting a good lease agreement .
The guy said they have 41 planes and 400 pilots (10 pilots/plane) due to safety regulation but i think they could be less maybe 8 pilots per plane hence it will lay off 72 pilots which will save them a lot of money. These pilots can also be redeployed to other strategic projects such as training or being used on part-time basis until the business stablished.
True there are security issues and I know that in aviation we don't compromise in terms of security. Restructuring can only be done after a wider consultation and this my suggestion. The minister for health is not a doctor by profession and the president is head of defense but he probably cannot fire a rifle. That demand about a pilot heading the airlines is lame and ignorant. It doesn't reflect on the intellect we presume for pilots.

I think there is need to move away from the notion that if you are a chef , you should be allowed to run a hotel, if you are a professional footballer you are most qualified to run a sports department and that bus drivers are competent transport planners and managers. This misplaced idea has taken root in our society and se professionals feel more entitled than others working with them in the same industry.
