I was just thinking about where Omori was located this morning! XD I did figure it took place in America because of the evidence such as the sparkler, celebrating Christmas, how the houses and streets looked, and other such details that really hinted at Sunny and his friends living there. One other thing is the characters in Faraway Town All-American Guy and All-American Mom? But I wasn't sure if their names were changed for the Japanese translation or not.

I actually looked into this myself a while ago, and I noticed something that really gives the location away. In one of the beach photos, you can actually see the sun setting over the water, which proves that the game has to take place somewhere along the northern west coast of the U.S., which is pretty cool
I'd like to add however, in the July art, we see the moon also rising in the west, which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Because of this, I've personally ruled out the sun and moon in order to determine where it is set.

So, taking that knowledge, it wouldn't make sense for them to be out at night past 12:00, as by then, it would already have been July 5th, which wouldn't make much sense for the sparklers then. That, and I don't think I know anyone who wants to wake up at like, 4AM to go outside and use sparklers...

Edit: i just looked at the picture and saw its a full moon, which does rise when the sun sets. However, at this point I think we can leave it out as evidence because no reasonable person would take all that into account.

If we're leaving pieces of potential location for evidence out, then we are ignoring points being made. The moon and both sun are conflicting, actually on multiple occasions, look at the May art. We can see a wanning crescent rising in the background whilst the moon sets. If we leave out the moon as evidence, then the sun is being pulled out with that. I think due to this, the Moon and Sun are unreliable sources to go off of, I'd argue their existence is really on their to get good drawings.

From the calendrer art, we can see that Omori's setting is at least, somewhat near the coast line, and judging via the vegitation, we can also determine that it is near the east coast, perhaps central east coast! And, if we assume that, Sunny is moving towards a large city, we could perhaps be able to infer that, Sunny probably lives in either, 1. North Carolina, 2. Virginia 3. Maryland 4. Delaware 5. New York 6. New Jersey I'd say any states above New Jersey is probably a no, just because the climate doesn't fit for the region. And if we want to take an even larger guess, we can once more, look at the calendrer art, (in particular, the beach one). In the background, we can see what seems to be a somewhat small city on the left hand and right side, and we could infer that these two sections are just suburbs of larger cities, which would also mean that two cities are likely close to eachother... From here, I think that's really, it. If I had to personally guess, I'd have to say Faraway probably is somewhere within Virginia, but, my guess is as good as yours I suppose. (I would like to note however, that despite the climate of Faraway resembling the east coast, there is still a chance for it to be perhaps somewhere in Northern California... as some places of the climate there do resemble the central east coast!)

Alright I'm putting my bets in, it takes place in either Maine or Oregon, due to the climate yet being close enough to a beach to have a trip there with friends Edit: also i remembered something, Hero's name is based off his favorite sandwich, a hero sandwich. I said this on the previous video but heres a video idea that would be interesting: What was the original plot for Omori? According to a lot of prerelease content from between 2012 to 2015 theres some implications that imply the story was changed in some way.
We have more information to narrow it down actually! There appears to be an ofrenda in Kel’s home meaning he and hero are likely Mexican. There’s many Mexican-Americans and Mexican immigrants within America and the states with the highest amount are: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and Texas
Grew up in the tri-state area, and it’s a bunch of small towns, LOTS of churches (constantly hearing church bells), small shopping centers within walking distance, everyone knows each other, similar seasons to that of omori’s calendars, close to the beach (Jersey shore with a boardwalk and theme parks!), lots of forests and small lakes, list goes on! But as I played omori, there was such a nostalgic essence from it, so my best bet is that omori takes place near the tri-state! If you’re actually serious about this and all of course!
I don’t know if I am the only one who talked about the beetle one but : Mari in one of the album photos is holding a giant stag beetle, and it is only found in eastern and southern united states, but with the climate of Faraway Town it is more likely east coast, the central part of it. For the states it is either Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and the Northern part of Virginia. Also there is a lot of Oak tree. Oak tree are less common in western United states The church is a catholic one, Virginia has more protestant than catholic so, it exclude Virginia So yes, that definitely East coast.

Based on the places I've lived in, I would say that faraway town is located somewhere near the northwest coast of the USA (Washington, Oregon, some of California, etc.) also based on the weather during some of the months, it can be narrowed down even farther, (Oregon and Washington). what helps this case is the layout. a store in walking distance, a pizza place, a playground like 2 minutes away, etc. But this is just what I've noticed.

Omori (the hit-indie RPG released on Christmas Day 2020) takes place in Omuta, a City in Kyushu Japan starting on the 3rd of May, 1997 and ends on the April 20th of 2006 (Oldest events to Latest events) there are different mechanics that make this hard to determine like the [HYPERLINK BLOCKED] as well of the fact that they don’t need to tell of anything they don’t want us to know. Who’s they. Me. Who’s me. Me. I found this information by searching the deepest corners of the internet and researching many things about the game and it’s community so this timeframe should be around 99.9% accurate assuming the DS version I have and the modern remake are similar enough that the info carry’s out between the different releases. Not the mention the localization and different updates and releases over the past 15 and a haft years. It was hard to track but I think it was worth it for a game that I won’t be playing for another 9,999 years

Being specific as possible, I bet its in the suburbs of NYC. For one, sub sandwiches are referred to as heroes, and the group lives somewhere where the coast is easily accessible. Since metro NYC spans across multiple states, Faraway could either be in NY state, Connecticut, or New Jersey, more likely CT or NJ as the coastal part of NYC is very urban, but there's also a chance it could be set on Long Island.

Honestly, I just thought the game took place in California because that's where Omocat lives and is based in. Someone also pointed out the photo of Mari and Hero holding hands at the beach, you can see the sun setting _setting_ in the background, meaning the game has to take place on the West Coast. Omocat is based in LA, but that's obviously not where Faraway Town is because of the snow, so I'd say just general Northern California is likely where the game takes place, but that's just my opinion.

I always assumed it took place in the US just because of FT's overall culture; specifically, it always seemed to me like something Omocat created to reflect their own life and feelings on US culture. Based on their self-made description (mentioning "the constant oppression they faced in their early years imposed by others's ideas of etiquette, beauty, and restrictions of being a girl.") and the fact that they live in America, I find this really easy to conclude as you could argue it's outright stated. Then again, I suppose if Faraway Town was meant to be a reflection of Omocat's views on American culture, you'd expect Sunny, being the eyes through which you view it, to be a girl (since Omocat references gender in their self-made description). I dunno, I guess it's just kind of a vibe I always had. Sidenote, does Omocat use they/them? I thought they used she/her but the self-made description uses they/them but I can't find an outright confirmation.
Fun fact you might already know: in a lot of the original promo/concept art for the game, sunny/Omori was a girl! And omocat has made other drawings in which sunny is a girl, too. Personally I hc sunny as genderfluid/transfem :)
The customs of Faraway town feel very Asian to me, specifically the memorials everywhere of loved ones with the 2 candles, photo and sometimes offerings. Not to mention the very sterotypical expectations associated with Asian parents like Hero's parents wanting him to be a doctor rather than a chef, and Omori's violin practice which seemed forced upon him rather than something he actually liked considering the... ahem... aftermath of having one. Idk if this is racist tbh, (apologies if it is) but where I've grown up and seeing a lot of anime and depictions of Asian orientated media that's what I was kind of getting out of the stuff.

If we look at the Omori calendar art, in the month of July, we see them at a beach again, only thing is, the moon seems to be rising in the west as well, while it would usually be rising the east.
I'd have to argue that, the moon and sun are not reliable things to go off of, as if we did, it would make no sense at all.
I think some other possibilities are Maine, Massachusetts, and Connecticut

So I'm going to assume that faraway is somewhere in Maine due to its weather, proximity to the beach, and apparently because giant stag beetles are found in maine as well (there's a photo album pic with mari holding a giant stag beetle).

We have more information to narrow it down actually! There appears to be an ofrenda in Kel’s home meaning he and hero are likely Mexican. There’s many Mexican-Americans and Mexican immigrants within America and the states with the highest amount are: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and Texas
You didn’t really need to do all the narrowing down just to place it in the USA because Sunny uses US dollars to buy things

Grew up in the tri-state area, and it’s a bunch of small towns, LOTS of churches (constantly hearing church bells), small shopping centers within walking distance, everyone knows each other, similar seasons to that of omori’s calendars, close to the beach (Jersey shore with a boardwalk and theme parks!), lots of forests and small lakes, list goes on! But as I played omori, there was such a nostalgic essence from it, so my best bet is that omori takes place near the tri-state! If you’re actually serious about this and all of course!

Mari in one of the album photos is holding a giant stag beetle, and it is only found in eastern and southern united states, but with the climate of Faraway Town it is more likely east coast, the central part of it. For the states it is either Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and the Northern part of Virginia.
Also there is a lot of Oak tree. Oak tree are less common in western United states
The church is a catholic one, Virginia has more protestant than catholic so, it exclude Virginia

Based on the places I've lived in, I would say that faraway town is located somewhere near the northwest coast of the USA (Washington, Oregon, some of California, etc.)
also based on the weather during some of the months, it can be narrowed down even farther, (Oregon and Washington).
what helps this case is the layout. a store in walking distance, a pizza place, a playground like 2 minutes away, etc. But this is just what I've noticed.

I found this information by searching the deepest corners of the internet and researching many things about the game and it’s community so this timeframe should be around 99.9% accurate assuming the DS version I have and the modern remake are similar enough that the info carry’s out between the different releases. Not the mention the localization and different updates and releases over the past 15 and a haft years. It was hard to track but I think it was worth it for a game that I won’t be playing for another 9,999 years

Being specific as possible, I bet its in the suburbs of NYC. For one, sub sandwiches are referred to as heroes, and the group lives somewhere where the coast is easily accessible. Since metro NYC spans across multiple states, Faraway could either be in NY state, Connecticut, or New Jersey, more likely CT or NJ as the coastal part of NYC is very urban, but there's also a chance it could be set on Long Island.

Canada day is July 1st, (in some places) the winter is cold and snowy, the summer is decently hot, and there's suburbs. Problem is, our thanksgiving is October and not November
Nowhere in Canada except for coastal BC (like less than an hour away from the pacific ocean), has days in late october that are warm, as the day Mari died is described. But it looks like it is set in the west coast anyway, so maybe, but to be fair, the summers seem to be hot, and while most of Canada has hot summers and cold winters, the coastal parts of BC have neither, the hottest Metro Vancouver has ever gotten is +34 celsius, in its entire history and that doesn't even happen most years. But places like Osoyoos seem to line up weather wise somewhat

Honestly, I just thought the game took place in California because that's where Omocat lives and is based in. Someone also pointed out the photo of Mari and Hero holding hands at the beach, you can see the sun setting _setting_ in the background, meaning the game has to take place on the West Coast. Omocat is based in LA, but that's obviously not where Faraway Town is because of the snow, so I'd say just general Northern California is likely where the game takes place, but that's just my opinion.

I always assumed it took place in the US just because of FT's overall culture; specifically, it always seemed to me like something Omocat created to reflect their own life and feelings on US culture. Based on their self-made description (mentioning "the constant oppression they faced in their early years imposed by others's ideas of etiquette, beauty, and restrictions of being a girl.") and the fact that they live in America, I find this really easy to conclude as you could argue it's outright stated.
Then again, I suppose if Faraway Town was meant to be a reflection of Omocat's views on American culture, you'd expect Sunny, being the eyes through which you view it, to be a girl (since Omocat references gender in their self-made description). I dunno, I guess it's just kind of a vibe I always had.
Sidenote, does Omocat use they/them? I thought they used she/her but the self-made description uses they/them but I can't find an outright confirmation.
Fun fact you might already know: in a lot of the original promo/concept art for the game, sunny/Omori was a girl! And omocat has made other drawings in which sunny is a girl, too. Personally I hc sunny as genderfluid/transfem :)
The customs of Faraway town feel very Asian to me, specifically the memorials everywhere of loved ones with the 2 candles, photo and sometimes offerings. Not to mention the very sterotypical expectations associated with Asian parents like Hero's parents wanting him to be a doctor rather than a chef, and Omori's violin practice which seemed forced upon him rather than something he actually liked considering the... ahem... aftermath of having one. Idk if this is racist tbh, (apologies if it is) but where I've grown up and seeing a lot of anime and depictions of Asian orientated media that's what I was kind of getting out of the stuff.
