In the Atlanta area, there used to be a Strange Antenna Challenge. At one event, a station was set up with an aluminum ladder and chicken wire for a counterpoise. We need to develop strategies like these for emergency communication. This was by far the best POTA activation I have seen in recent memory. 👍👍👍
What a breath of fresh air on the topic of ham radio. Way to think outside of the box. This is the latest McGyver of videos as it relates to ham radio. Thanks for sharing.
Haha oh man, activating a park with a sign. I have a G90 and when I heard how quickly it tuned I was like “no way.....” Love hearing the regular hunters in here lots of familiar calls. Thanks for the video! 73 K9MKE
That is so cool!!! That G90 will tune about anything. I love it!! I see you have your Sasquatch attractor orange on lol. I don’t blame you, I’d be wearing that too during deer season out in the boonies. If I go to the back of my pasture, I do the same.
Great job! Makes me just want to carry a short length of wire and an alligator clip in the kit to hook to random things. Also I think it should be a requirement for all QSOs to include your favorite color. (6:17) Ada was great!
Wow. That was amazing. I've been watching the UA-camrs Bunch series on "Will it Antenna" and that fishing-pier sign was my favorite. 5-9 from Saskatchewan, Manitoba, New York, Arizona, and a few 5-6's from Colorado.... Next time I POTA, I'm gonna' find me a sign. I wonder how much of that was the sign vs the lake. I'm guessing that water helped. (?) 73 - VE3KLT
lol good job, you had some fun, especially with that sign on the pier. I didn’t think it would do good but look at you go. Calling pota didn’t hurt you either lol
That sign rocked! Maybe the big sign over the post acted like a perfectly tuned capacity hat? Awesome! Nice to see you get some VE4 and VE5 contacts too! :-)
It was awesome. We had so much fun making this one I made a "Will it Antenna" bag, now we have everything we need whenever we are out there to try it. Thanks for watching!
So, why am I even buying antennas for pota? I've been scammed again. Pile up...ok. Love that laugh when make a distant contact. Amazing video. I would love to have seen your raw SWR before tuning. You have to share this video on the pota Facebook page. Manatoba! You rat...lol
When I used to my buick with a ball mounted 102 whip hooked to my ah 4 tuner and 706. I had a piece of wire with alligator clips and it tuned up my parents carport and I worked Russia. Makes me want to get a g90
That’s impressive , I’m looking fwd to getting my general class , I’m ready soon as I find a test site . I have a lot to learn , but what impressed me most is the QRP radio , I’m assuming that’s less than a 20 watt radio ? By the way that lake looks like prime duck hunting which I’m sure isn’t allowed there at the park 🤦🏼♂️ 73’s to you Steve KK4ISW
That would have been pretty cool if you had gotten Rob N1NUG (seven forty one channel) when he did his tree-tenna from your deer stand. Nice work! I should try this sometime. KJ7JJY
Well after seeing this I am not so sure my hamstick is really all that good of an antenna. Didn't know I could of just used a ladder and saved some money.

Thanks! And thanks for watching! My daughter and I have more planned for the future (assuming we can work around her summer college schedule LOL)
@@K5ATA Great to see her on the air. We need more active youth in ham radio.

Team replay for the win!

That is not what they mean by ladder line!!! ;)
Maybe not... but it worked! Thanks for watching!
love the deer stand very cool
Thanks, and thanks for watching! 73!
So Impressive. Fishing Pier Vertical. ❤️
Yeah, it worked far better than expected. Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thanks for watching!
The deer stand was great, and the sign just topped it all off....way to go!
Thanks for watching, and thanks for being there! 73

Yeah... hunting season and bordering on other people’s plans... I’m not in the woods without it. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, I actually put together a bag for “Will it antenna” just because it was so fun. Thanks for watching

Sweet! Thanks for watching! If my counterpoise wire were longer I was going to toss it into the water!
lol good job, you had some fun, especially with that sign on the pier. I didn’t think it would do good but look at you go. Calling pota didn’t hurt you either lol

Well, I wouldn’t say most of the antennas were the most efficient out there :)
@@K5ATA yeah...but some of that 20 watts was making it. Neat idea. Would like to get a closer look at the attaching cable. Onefaith.us

I still prefer the 705 for portable, but for stuff that you need an antenna tuner for, the g90 does the job
@@K5ATA 705 would be great, but little pricey
It is a little pricey... but man... it is a nice radio!
Loved it!
I had a good camera person, too! :)
You know, maybe someday we could activate that together, run two or three bands at the same time if your daughter sets up too 👍
Sounds like fun!
That was not what I expected. Nice job.
This was a fun one. My daughter just asked if we could go find more stuff to try to antenna! Thanks for watching
Was that Anglers side top or bottom loaded? LOL
Bottom loaded of course. Thanks for watching!
