People always give Kensei crap for losing, but it says a lot that it took a guy with both power scaling and healing abilities to beat him.
Rose on the other hand saw that he has those abilities and still chose to tell him how his power worked and got exactly what was coming to him.
Kensei is a bum. If you can out physical him he falls over.

Mask is a very creative sternitter by Kubo he plays a double type of character a superhero with his fan cheering him and a goodguy wrestler with a fan cheering him on and both types of characters get beat up by the villains before they get cheesy powerup from the fans cheering them on mask was quite fleshed out for a normal sternitter
rose having one the strongest bankai and dieing literally because of yapping is the funniest thing lmao

@@bastianadit5523 Well, some of the details in the movie are definitely not accurate to the manga, but ichigo did mention that he went to the Valley of Screams in a panel in chapter 627 (mind you that the valley was never talked about before this specific chapter, Kubo at the end of the chapter even told the reader to watch the movie to understand what the Valley of Screams actually are).
How does it fit in the timeline? Well, between chapter 228 and 229 of the manga there is a 1 month timeskip as everyone undergoes training to prepare for the inevitable fight against Aizen and his Arrancar army. We never see what happens in this timeskip and nothing of what occurs is told to us, so anything could have happened in it since it can't be contradicted.
The Ryuudouji family, the main antagonists of the movie itself are also described accurately in CFYOW as they were in the movie.

[Tidbits & Clarifications]
- Some people are confused about Rose's Bankai. It's an illusionary type, however, it seems that those illusions can affect reality as long as you believe it so.
- The Battle of Renji vs Mask is also a nod to when Renji said the he was simply a dog barking at the stars back in the Soul Society Arc.
- The aspect about Renji not knowing his Zanpaktou's True name is something we experienced in part with Yumichikia, If you recall Yumichika intentionally calls his Zanpaktou a wrong name which results in a half-released shikai. We also learned when Renji fought Byakuya that his Bankai was still immature so it was bound to improve at some point.
[Sidenote: The beginning of Mask v Renji is slightly different in the manga, it's has more moments of Renji overpowering Mask.]
- Renji's original Bankai name was "Hihio Zabimaru" which translates to Baboon King Snake Tail, referencing only the Baboon as the King whereas the True Name "Sōō Zabimaru" means Two Kings Snake Tail.
- Many question "Why aren't the Vizards using their mask", the answer is honestly quite simple, if you think about it in most of the fights they haven't needed them. For example, Shinji was easily winning until he was straight up blindsided/caught of guard, same thing happens here, Kensei has 0 issue until Mask gets a random power up, then it's too late to pull out the Hollow Mask. Same with Rose, he was winning then a sudden change of events turned the tables.
- Ichibei reveals here that his name given by the Soul King is Manako Osho which means "The Monk who speaks the True Name" He's also the one who created the name Bankai and Shikai, this is important because names in Bleach mean a lot, to use one's power often requires a name. So Renji's question "What are you" is very fitting
- As many may comment judging by Yhwach's words, James is the real sternritter. This was confirmed by Kubo in his Klub Outside QnA's, Mask De Masculine is simply a being that's made from James ideal of a Hero, which is why no matter how often he went down James could simply bring him back, James is the Fan and as long as Fans Exist, the Hero can never fade.
- Soken Ishida is interesting, he seems important enough that someone like Jugram Haschwalth knows him by name, it makes you wonder what was his position back when Shinigami and Quincy were at war.

The sound of kensei’s bankai is so satisfying
Will offer some clarity for some things happening here .
James is considered to be the real Quincy here , masculine is what he perceives a hero should be as a fan .
Renji’s bankai was foreshadowed as well , it’s a baboon spirit with a snake tail however he would always release and you’d never see the baboon , why ? Now you see both elements as he learned the true name .
What I don't understand is that Renji's half bankai was called Hihiou (Baboon King), yet it manifested the form of a snake

Something that is not really well explained about Renji's Bankai.
Ichibe tells Renji that "Hihio Zabimaru" is only half of his true Bankai, not "half of its name". This means that he was only using half of the true nature of Zabimaru.
Remember howin the Soul Society Arc Zabimaru's spirit manifested as a baboon with a snake tail? Both beings are conscious and have their own intelligence and personality. And still, when Renji activated his bankai, it alwayd was just the giant snake, without anything related to the baboon.
This basically means that his Zampakuto never trusted Renji's strenght, so they only lent him half of his power, the snake. Sōō Zabimaru is the full power of both spirits, showing that Renji finally reached his true potential and his Zampakuto recognizes it.

it is not embarrasing, they didnt had the need to train like other characters so far, their bankais were never stolen and their bankais are strong, but they also didnt understand their opponent because of that, mask the masculine they didnt had time to know that james was the sternritter, kensei attacked and then james made his perception of a hero be inmmune to kensei, then rose killed james but he said the secret of his bankai to mask hence he made himself deaf and proceded to avoid anymore tricks, renji saw james regenerate, and mask took down james himself only after that did renji use bankai, it was a strategic exchange not a battle of power.

First and foremost, you're taking it in reverse, the way you're supposed to take it is, training with squad 0 is so effective that's the power boost one gets in only 3 days. On top of that, Renji was already captain level before he went there, and for all we know he could have already been on par with Kensei and Rose at the time (without taking the masks and hax into account of course). And if you don't believe me when I say Renji was already captain level, remember Ikkaku is captain level, so much so he actively hides the fact he archieved bankai so that people won't push him to become a captain.
