- Staten Island native Marcus Browne defeated a bloodied Badou Jack by upset unanimous decision for the Interim WBA Light Heavyweight belt. The scores were 119-108, 117-110, 116-111.
Jack suffered a gruesome five-inch cut to his forehead after an accidental clash of heads in the seventh round of the fight. The former Olympian Browne told Gray the head butt did not affect the outcome of the fight.
“He couldn’t find me before that [head butt],” said the 28-year-old Browne, who made his professional debut on ShoBox: The New Generation following the 2012 Olympics. “He couldn’t find me. I was just too sharp, too slick, too anything. He was coming with his head all night. He kept coming with his head.”
The Las Vegas resident and former two-division champion Jack was taken immediately to the hospital for observation. Jack, who was fighting in his seventh consecutive world title fight, gave all the credit to Browne. “I was flat,” he said. “I don't know what it was, but no excuses. I would love the rematch. Now I have to rest, get the head fixed and hopefully get that chance in the future.”
Browne was the more active fighter, throwing 515 total punches to 303 for Jack. Browne connected on 103 of his power punches compared to just 58 for Jack.
The taller, southpaw Browne said he stuck to his game-plan and peppered Jack continuously with his strong straight left jab. “He thought he was going to take me to deep water and drown me, but I was in shape,” he said. “Teddy Atlas, you think you have the best light heavyweight? (Oleksandr) Gvozdyk, let’s go.
“I just used my athletic ability and did what I do best, and that’s box the hell out of people.”

Nah man it's at the fighters discretion aswell as the doctors ringside. It wasnt affecting his vision or shown any long term problems. A true warrior but you could see it affected the fight going forward...

This fight should have been stopped, the man's forehead was literally open in half. The blood gushed from his face like from a fountain when the headbutt happened. Even the referee was bathing in blood by the end. Absolutely ridiculous.

The highlight of the fight was when I saw Michael Blackson in his corner 😂
I know Jack won some fans after this one but what a terrible overall job from his corner. They didn't want to believe their eyes. It's generally a good thing to keep your fighter motivated when he's losing but this was a situation where he just didn't stand a chance. He was way behind after 6 rounds and was never in the fight after that either. Ridiculous that they would keep him in there on the off chance Browne could get disqualified.

I haven’t watched boxing since I was ten mind yalls I’m an 80’s baby. Had to come in here because of Instagram, instagram wasn’t making any sense so I had too see it for myself. I saw both had respect during their fight while fighting. I give respect to both fighters.

The corner should have been told him to go "Mike Tyson" a hell of a lot sooner. The trainer did a horrible job... smh- kept telling him he was doing great for the first 5-6 rds even though he was losing them all!😆- I hadn't seen Jack fight before the Tyson card so this was very surprising to see ....but he appeared to have no answer for the Southpaw Marcus who definitely made this HIS fight from the very beginning. Southpaw who can box plus has alot of power? He's a problem...smh-- outboxes, outclassed Badou jack this go round .... Bounce back champ!

Put Badou Jack in there with a southpaw at world level and you are guaranteed a great fight. His style just matches up perfectly with skilled southpaws. High level chess match but still very entertaining.
I'm not sure about that, I'm a badou fan, and his right down the middle wasn't there. A more skilled fighter would destroy him. He needs to get active on punch Output!! And quit chancing these guys around, and cut off the ring... Then explode. He's got the power. Just needs to use it.
