In this video I'm swatching the beautiful new Schmincke Horadam Shire set! Which is your favourite colour from this set, and which set do you like the most from the three new ones; Shire, Volcano, or Desert? I'd love to know!
That shire blue is gorgeous! I've gotten the Schmincke dot card for their supergranulating colors, but I haven't swatched the shire colors yet. Looking forward to seeing them in person!
wonderful to see someone finally using them the way they was meant to be used ❤ a lot of people us them for smaller strokes/points and dont like them because they look to similar and not inspiring. But these were meant for larger areas so the different pigments can show up and granulate. absolutely lovely colors 🙂
Thank you!
I think I might have only just noticed that the pigment letters are Y for yellow, B for blue, G for green and so on. IT ALL MAKES SO MUCH SENSE NOW.
I'm almost impressed at how long that took me... (I've been using watercolours for 2 years.)
It was ages before I figured it out too!
And K or Bk for black as B was already taken. I started out with a printing and graphics background first so it was like a cheat code.
@@lightwavz It's so cool! They were just random letters and numbers to me before. (My brain repels anything to do with numbers.)
What’s P ?
@@Peachykraft Pigment! :)
How kind of you to swatch in your mother's house actually Natasha it was cosy lighting with gentle shadows I soooo loved 6hese are beautiful I love your pebble swatvjing shapes they are awsome. Thanks for Sharing have a lovely weekend 😘 love to Issey and Ruby 💜
I'll pass on your love to Issey and Ruby, Deborah! ♡ Thanks and I'm glad that you enjoyed the swatching. :)
I like the Volcano set cuz I'm partial to reds, oranges and purples!
I just bought Shire Blue and Shire Grey. I can't wait until my package arrives. I chose the best ones after watching this video! Thank you!!
Both absolutely gorgeous colours! Have fun. :)
Every time I watch you work I’m amazed at your steady hand and the detail you get. Your “pebbles” are beautiful and provide a good reference I can use for my art shopping! Thanks for that!
You have a beautiful style of presentation & Voice. Brilliant
😊
Thank you, that's so nice of you to say. :)
I did buy the Shire Blue few days ago (waiting for it) the color is so beautiful.
Love the Shire Olive and Shire Blue the most. 💚💙
Thank you for swatching this Shire set. I have had my eye on that set. I like the Shire Green and the Shire Blue the best.
Shire Blue is SO gorgeous!
thankyou for the lovely swatches!
These colours really are beautiful! Thank you for sharing! Enjoy your holiday! 😍🥰😘
Thank you, Chrissie! xx
This has been on my art haul list. Thank you for showing us the colors.
Definitely worth getting, Lori! Very beautiful and inspiring colours. :)
I also bought the green and the blue. Every set has one colour that I wanted to own, but the shire set was the only one with two colours. The desert green is a must have as well.
I REALLY like the look of the Desert Green. It's on my wish list!
I'm in love with my Shire set. On it's own, my favorite is the blue. But when I use my normal palette I find myself reaching for the green and the grey
Good to see you here Sarah burns. I love your videos too.
That's interesting to hear, I loved your video about this set!
Thank you so much for making this swatching session from Schmincke Horadam, I found these really lovely! I haven't thought of buying them but after this session I think I changed my mind and would like to own one of the sets, these are beautiful! Shire olive might be my favourite as well as shire yellow. :)) And the pebble swatching is like your trademark now which suits you so much! All the best to you and have lovely time in Suffolk!
I'm now slightly obsessed with the Shire Yellow, which I wasn't as crazy about when I first swatched them, but now I think it's beautiful and unusual! I think that you would love these paints. :) x
This was theprefect colour set for you!,I wonder if Schmincke were inspired by the placesin the Uk knownas the Shires. I love the low teach feel to this videa and the make do and med type approach as well. The shire Olive is a stunning colour and can see why you love the Shire Blue so much. These colours would be great in your night lanscape pieces. Pebble watches are so the way to go!! The way these colours seperate and granulate will add a new element of texture to your landscapes,A great addition to you caolour palettes for sure. (matt)
They're gorgeous, aren't they Matt?! I love the name, love the colours, and I'm excited to start using them in my work. Shire blue and grey are both perfect for night landscapes! (I'm supposed to be on a watercolour buying ban, but I'm justifying it by using my Jackson's affiliate credit!). ;)
i just love the shire blue, just want to get that colour
So nice of you to do this under less than ideal conditions. I can see you painting and scoring fields, so the colors granulate into little rows🐑
Love the pebble swatches; beautiful and so meditative to watch🍃
Thanks so much! 😊
the supergranulating colors from schmincke are all so gorgeous 🥰
They are! And I'm trying to restrict the number of colours I'm buying from the collection, but it isn't easy! ;)
Beautiful! This felt like a meditation! x
Thanks Jess! xx
I’m thinking of getting the shire set. It’s an investment but looks wonderful.
Beautiful colours. I haven’t got any of the new sets yet but I think this one will be the one I buy first. I love the blue. Thanks for sharing
This is definitely the one that appealed to me the most! :)
Your videos are so calming, thank you! I also like how you talk about the colors you like, so inspirational
Thank you so much!
More art supplies to be added to my shopping list 😅 haha I loved the shire blue the most.
Sorry Celeste! ;)
All gorgeous colours, but that blue is just delightful. Colours like that make me want to learn about formulating yarn dye, because I really want a Shire Blue jumper now.
A Shire Blue jumper would be GORGEOUS!
I've got their Volcano Red and it's amazing for making eccentric, granulating mixes! Enjoy the rest of your break away :)
Thanks Ailsa! I love the idea of eccentric granulating mixes!
Did I ever remember to buy that?? I wanted that one! I have to go rummage through my swatches what a fun surprise a sad surprise that would be
oh no... i've been on the fence with this and now I really want it lol. I think this would be my favourite. xxx
It's a gorgeous set of colours! The only one I think I possibly won't use quite as much is the Shire Green. xxx
Hello Natasha, hope you are well. Oh my what can i say i love all those colours, i think my favourite has to been shire blue, shire grey love Shminke paints but i’ve not purchased any of the granulating colours these are some that i will get in the very near future i’m just having to save money at the moment. Take care Natasha xxx 😘
I completely understand about having to save money at the moment, Louise! I'm saving for something big at the moment, so I'm using my Jackson's affiliate credit to purchase any art goodies right now! I hope you're able to experiment with some of these gorgeous colours soon. :) xxx
They are all really nice colors. Wasn't liking the olive at first until you showed the close up Wow.
Yes, Olive is a beauty for sure!
I always admire how steady you are handling the strokes while swatching, the colour shows up beautifully♡ The olive one definitely will be my favourite 😍
Thank you so much, Hatsu! ♡
Ooooooo! Beautiful colours, especially the blue.
They are gorgeous, aren't they!
I love all of these colors! I just received this set as well as the volcano and desert sets. They are all so amazing. In this set the blue and the grey are my favorites. I can see the grey in a moody night sky. Thanks for sharing!
Oh yes, that's definitely a moody night sky colour!
PY 159 is a lemon yellow. The PV 62 is, "Strontium Phosphate Violet (PV62) is a violet pigment with chemical formula Sr5(PO4)3Cu0.3O and an apatite structure. It provides a unique bluish violet shade." PG 18 is viridian green. PB 35 is Cerulean Blue.
Wow! Really looking forward to seeing all of these in your new work, but especially the blue and grey! This is definitely my choice in the realm of colors with just a dash of persimmon to set off the palette
I had to look up persimmon, but what a beautiful colour!
That blue one is gorgeous!
This was so fun to watch. I just got the shire set and can't wait to play around with it!
Have fun!
Love this set Natasha..my faves being the Olive, Blue & Grey. From the Volcano set I'm loving Violet (👌chef's kiss!) & Brown. Desert Blue & Grey are lovely too.xx
I need to have a closer look at the Desert set - it's lovely to hear your faves, Jo! xx
I woke up to this video today (Thursday) and wow what a way to start my day 😃! Love your videos as always and I don’t mind the shadows and the unideal conditions. Just to see you swatch the Shire set was more than enough for me 🥰.
Almost all the colors suits me, maybe not the Shire Green as much as the other 4. My favorites has to be the Shire blue and grey 😍.
This set is my favorite because of the colors and the name 🥰, I’m a major Tolkien fan.
Natasha, Thank you for this wonderful video. I hope you will have a nice and relaxing weekend!
Thank you so much, Katja! We're in complete agreement about the colours. :) I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video - thank you for watching! 🥰
Shire blue will also be Natasha Blue for me and is on my wish list. I got the set exclusive to Jacksons - Haze. Perfect for misty landscapes I think. And then got half pans of Glacier Blue, Desert Orange and Forest Olive. I’ve only had time to quickly swatch them but they are all excellent. I shall be getting more in time. I was lucky enough to be given a gift voucher and spent ages debating what to get. Thanks so much for this.
I love your choices, Jan! It's so interesting to hear people's favourite colours from the different sets. :)
Love them all!!! And your pebbles ❤️
Thanks Vivienne! x
Loved your pebble swatches, this one specially, it was very "meditative" 💚
Pebble swatches ❤❤❤❤
Just go this set! Also got the Haze set…….Have not se watched them yet. thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing these new Schmincke Horadam Shire set and I do like the muted colors. How do they compare to the super granulating paints? Have a wonderful time visiting your mum, Issey and Ruby. Love, Fran
Beautiful colors! Thank you
Beautiful colors ! so far I've only tested the Shire yellow, but the result is really nice. The Shire blue seems very similar to Forest Blue though (also a color from Schmincke, but from another set)
I really enjoy your pebble swatching! Probably because I used to collect rocks as a kid lol
It's SO enjoyable to do!
Hi Natasha! I like all of of these colours but especially the blue and grey. I have bought the volcano and desert set and am really looking forward to swatching them out… This also means I’ll likely have to redo my granulating watercolours palette!😉😊xx
Ooh, I'm a bit late answering this comment - I wonder whether you've swatched them out yet?! I'll go and have a look. :) xx
Beautiful colours...... I have bought a small selection of the super granulating colours but I think I'm going to end up collecting them all! 🥰
They're rather addictive, aren't they?! 😁
love your videos great work
Thank you!
The Shire Green and Shire Blue are perfectly magical! I've always been a Daniel Smith fan but these new granulating pigments are calling my name, and I think I would have chosen this selection too to try out ... although the desert colors have a golden appeal to me! 🤩
I always see if I have single pigments of the ingredients in each mix and see if I can get something satisfying from those. Often gives me new ideas. Then if I can’t or if I find I’m going for that mix all the time then I’ll get the mix. Also useful if I want to travel with it for convenience, although you can squirt some of each mixer in a pan and just mix while painting. These sets are useful for so many reasons.
Daniel Smith can be great but they can be problematic. No cadmiums is a problem and they are dishonest about several colors, suggesting they are highly lighfast when independent testing shows they are not (Rhodenite, siklerite, tigers eye, as examples) and there are questions over hidden pigment ingredients in some colors such as Amazonite and Sleeping Beauty Turquoise. When a company is demonstrated to be probably dishonest with some colors I tend to distrust them more generally.
I use mostly Winsor & Newton, Daniel Smith, and Schmincke Horadam. Over the years, while other companies attract me with this and that color, I tend to always return to Schmincke. They are not so flashy as other brands, but they have a knack of getting colors to suit what I want to do. The super-granulating ranges are the colors I never knew I needed until Schmicke made them, and the Shire and Forest ranges are favorites because they work so well in so much landscape. They better not be a passing fad because I want several of the super-granulating colors as permanent additions to my palette.
@@artistjoh Thanks, Joh. I've heard a bit about the recent DS dishonesties with paints, but haven't looked into it yet. I've enjoyed W&D but DS has some colors that I like a lot more than the W&N versions (and a couple vice versas too). I've never tried the Schiminke, but only because their prices are prohibitive and never go on sale. They look positively delicious though and new granulating series are smoking DS's, or so I hear. Thanks for your insights on pigments. I really love picking up more info so I can better know how to choose my paints.
@@AnimalArtbyTerraCotta The Daniel Smith controversies are blown out of proportion by some people, but there are some issues. For example they say that Rhodanite doesn't fade, but don't tell you that it tends to oxidise in the air and go brownish, and a few of the other Primatek colors do fade. Only use Primatek with caution, but I have not seen problems in the rest of the range. As you say, some DS colors are superior, and other colors are better in other ranges. I have a lot of Daniel Smith, some Winsor & Newton, a couple of Qor and lots of Schmincke. Years ago I used to use a lot of French, Dutch, and Belgian watercolors, especially Blockx but they are all honey based watercolors, and I am in a warm environment and I found I was getting insects attacking finished watercolors, presumably attracted by the honey. Schmincke, W&N, and Daniel Smith keep me happy these days.
However I must give you a warning about the super-granulating colors. They are very addictive, and once you try one, you need more to keep your habit going. Soon you are a hopeless Super-Gran addict like me. You can't get enough of that Super-Gran goodness. :)
@@artistjohI already find DS far superior as a whole (I do like the MG though but like you said, honey!) I think I could survive quite happily with a granulating addition! Sounds rather novel 😄
The blue one looks so close to cascade green
I think the Shire Blue is for me…..am a blue girl anyway!
Shire Blue is stunning!
When I first started buying Schminke super granulating paints I was very disappointed with the lack of granulation and separation and was getting a bit frustrated. Liz Chadderton advised me to throw some salt into my water pot because my water is too soft. Hey Presto! along came the effect I was looking for. Of course you won’t have this problem in Suffolk or Surrey Natasha.
I love the blue and the yellow in your set they are so versatile.
That's a really good point Elaine, I hadn't thought of that! The water in both Suffolk and Surrey is so hard that I've never had that problem, as you said!
Yummy! I'm still trying to get my head round why the Haze set has 2 blues that are so similar, I would have loved a Shire Blue or Olive to give a bit more flexibility :) xx
So nice of you to do this under less than ideal conditions. I can just imagine you scoring some lines in your fields and letting the paints granulate into little rows.🐑
Ooh, that sounds lovely!
@@NatashaNewtonArt sorry about the duplicates, comments weren't working, or so I thought. Have a lovely time at home.
Gorgeous. What an interesting pigment, PY 159.
Its a nice video, thanks for sharing your thoughts on them. Here there are 8 sets from schmincke: volcano, tundra, galaxy, deep sea, glacier, shire, forest and desert, I was mesmerized by desert green, tundra violet, deep sea violet. I would love to hear your thoughts on the other sets, too!
Thanks for sharing your favourites! I love to hear which colours other people like from this collection. I have the Forest Set and limited edition Haze Set and made a video about these a few weeks ago. :)
I have this set too. They are beautiful!
I'm very impressed! (But I always am with Schmincke).
@@NatashaNewtonArt I think I’m addicted! I have 3 of their supergranulating sets now. 😂
I love these colors I’ve had the galaxy set on my amazon list forever lol I looked online and the volcano set looks beautiful and bright but I do like the desert set too lol oh my now I want them all bcus I also like the deep sea colors and some of the other sets lmao I think I may have a problem. I think my favorite color from this set is the blue I do like the grey also and the brighter green
I find that I love different colours from so many of the sets too, Amber! I have the Haze, Forest and Shire sets, but I'm just collecting individual colours from some of the other sets (Tundra Pink, Deep Sea Black etc.)
Ohh...this Shire blue beats Forest blue - if I remember correctly.. I wonder how similar the two really look.. It also looks a bit like a bluer, granulating Cascade green. I love it. Enjoy them, and enjoy that dreamy place you`re at ))
The forest ones are super different but in a good way
I thought it looked quite similar too Forest Blue too! I want to swatch them side by side to see how similar/different they are. :)
@@NatashaNewtonArt do share it, please))
My sets left Jackson’s yesterday. Going to take 7-10 days😫
It'll be worth the wait! ;)
I don’t need more watercolor
I don’t need more watercolor
I don’t need more watercolor 😂🤣😆
I keep telling myself this too! ;)
Could anyone else see the woman’s face appear in the blue one? Can you put these into a pan rather than keeping them in the tube?
I have three of the super granulating watercolours in pans, and have never had a problem rewetting them (I bought Tundra Pink, Deep Sea Black, and Forest Blue separately - I've since bought the whole Forest set though!).
thanks for the video, enjoyed it, but wish you wouldn't over work the paint though
😭😭😭 Hobbiton colors
I have a tundra set and a shire set.
The tundra set is my favourite of the two. I just need to remember to only use tundra green for stuff on the ground as it really is no good for trees. Hardly surprising as there are no trees in tundra land. Example at artisticactuary.blogspot.com/2022/07/nuuk-art-museum.html
For the shire set, I can’t resist a teeny bit of detail or spatter with cadmium red and cadmium yellow just to add a bit of fizz but, more importantly I think the set needs a couple of extra colours supplement it. It could do with a blue suitable for skies (shire blue is really a green), so I've added cerulean blue which granulates and is one of the pigments in the shire olive. And I think it also needs a red to tone down the greens in some places and to complement them in others. I find W&N rose dore works - it seems to fit in well with the rest of the team. Example at artisticactuary.blogspot.com/2022/08/avebury-stones.html
