I make a mono bus in Pro Tools to be able to sidechain a stereo signal. When you're choosing your key input in your compressor you just choose that bus and it will duck the whole stereo track, I mainly use it for delay on vocals sometimes if I want it extra loud but not playing over the vocal itself

I spend a great deal of time at one of the worlds largest music retailers and recording studios. Each one of these DAWs is a tool with their own strengths and weaknesses and the workflow will suit different styles and personalities better than others. However, if you talk industry standard/professional studio, PT is king followed by a DAW not even mentioned. Digital Performer seems to be used an awful lot in the professional community.
The Rosetta Stone is a large stone tablet (ca. 196 BCE) that was discovered in Egypt in 1799. It is important because it allowed researchers to translate ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic writing for the first time. Much like the Rosetta EQ helps new audio nerds up their game, translating the frequency spectrum into words that convey feeling and emotion.
Pro Tools is the best for recording and mixing. Playlisting, pre-roll, reverse function in audiosuite for reverse verbs, Vari-Fi for tape stops, ARA2 Melodyne stock and elastic timestretching, routing folders for management, pro tool aggregate I/O audio driver, tab to transient, fade region to/from marker, f to create fade in & out, strip silence.

Pro Tools for me ever since I started making music in the studio. I think Pro Tools's workflow for recording, editing, mixing, and mastering is the best there is (for me) I do agree there are some (a ton) of things that could've/should've been added to Pro Tools way before and it's only coming now. I do expect the following improvements and integration in the following years: 1. MPE Integration. 2. Mixing Scenes for Recalling (Studio One does this, Cubase and Reaper does it too) 3. A built-in sampler a la Logic Pro 4. Better MIDI integration for external hardware and MIDI keyboards. 5. Better Piano Roll (it's improved a little in 2024 by adding note names to the MIDI notes) 6. A plug-in manager that can also sort our plug-ins by category, favorites, etc, and that's intelligent enough to detect which plug-ins have failed and send them to the unused folder. Also to this plug-in manager I'd like to have like Pro Tools being able to only show you the plug-ins you need for whatever task you're doing; recording, mixing, mastering, etc.
I can't figure out what episode y'all were talking about stereo side chain. But, all it takes is a left and a right track of let's say the drums and a left and a right track of let's say the bass. You would sidechain the left Bass track by the left drum track and you would side chain the right Bass track by the right drum track, utilizing four tracks. everything is possible with your daw already. Using Ableton you can use effects rack so it will really just take two channels. when you use the side chain you will have to select the chain in the effects rack that you want to sidechain by.
In an effects Rack in Ableton Live you would use a utility plugin choosing only the Left Channel and pan that to the left and in another chain in that rack you would use the right and pan it to the right. That effects rack would be for instance on the drums. Now if your sidechaining a bass let's say, on the bass you would use a utility playing only the Left Channel and pan to the left with a sidechain compressor on it triggered by the Left Channel of the drums in one chain. And you would do the same thing for the opposite side. Now if you and sidechain the entire base by the left and the entire base by the right it's the same thing as sidechaining in mono you could also side chain the Left Channel of the bass by the right Channel of the drums for a different effect if that's what you're looking for.
I can't imagine moving to anything else from Logic. Anytime I see my current favorites in studio they're recording in logic using the stock plugins like I really can't imagine it. I started with Protools and it was cool but I really hated the colors of the interface specifically. I wanted the same timeline kind of view but the soft neon color tones or something really are just something I can't get behind. logic is great for tuning I think it's the best but in terms of DAWs, it's up to how well the user understands the DAW. DAWs that allow you to use input FX are best for recording

You can sidechain stereo tracks. The trigger is just mono. If it was a true stereo signal to trigger the trigger signal to the sidechain would be a slightly different to very different from the left and right and would make the trigger to the sidechain less accurate. A mono signal makes for more accurate triggering but you can sidechain stero track no problem in pro tools.
Logic is the best all around DAW. Protools is the best recording and mixing DAW. FL and Ableton are tied for production because it’s too subjectively based on workflow. What I’m wondering is what are the best 2 DAWs to use in conjunction? Im rocking with Logic/Ableton.
Ableton/FL S1/ABLETON -> FL/Protools , ableton has the most advanced and best Audio warping algo. atleast something all producers and audio engineers can agree on. Every DAW has its uses and mostly has a feature that blows every other daw out of the water
Ableton is the deepest DAW out there as far as what it can do under the surface!! Unmatched when listening to warped samples straight from the browser!! However I’ve been recording vocals, mixing and mastering in LUNA just from the sound alone!! LUNA has a long way to go as far as simple features to catch up with other DAWS! It’s my belief that the best DAW is the one you’re most comfortable with, to be inspired and get the job done! If I had only one to choose from it would be “Studio Vision” by Opcode but they don’t make that anymore more so Ableton is my go to for my overall DAW of choice!!
Real Talk’s I’m a Ableton Live User but I am Switching to Cubase because it has a lot of features that are overlooked! Cubase is where I started Back in the Day but will have to relearn the program because been so long since I used it!
FL is the starting point almost every great record , get a sound out of protools on the launch not happening , FL is really endless , i use protools for vocals but i can do that in FL and more
Mostly people do their audio warping etc in ableton cause of their "complex pro" warping, then bounce the stems and throw em into FL. Atleast most of the producers i work with at universal. but ofc people work different.
The fact that you guys have been ignoring and making fun of Studio One it may be because, in a way, you're probably scared of the temptation of switching to Studio One. Because if we go with the features of SO, it has everything, 1. Mixing (with a easy routing system) 2. Mastering (like big daws just for mastering, Sequoia..) 3. Beat making (with a pattern section just like FL) 4. Converting instruments tracks with midi into audio, and if you want you can convert it back to an instrument track with the vsti & the midi. 5. Integrated Music Notation section (aka avid sibelius) And now the most recent Dolby Atmos! C'mon bro.
If I were forced to choose one desert island DAW, I would have to go with Logic Pro... very user-friendly. For music creation, I start in Live... they make their own hardware controller/interface and, depending on which version of the Push 3 you chose, it has the ability to be used in standalone mode.
idk…ive been using Ableton since 2015 and started using FL Studio late 2010 Ableton just a needs clip volume fader from the playlist without the need for extra scripts and a truly customizable interface . I could care less for a gross beat or a step sequencer tbr and interchangeable midi effects are a godsend vs clicking so many windows (and tiny buttons) to get the simplest shit done like an arpeggiator. FL Studio forever but I love me some Ableton
My brain can only understand FL now.I can’t imagine switching because I.T does everything I want I.T to do and used I.T for so long . I like the fact you can go from start to scratch with FL and I don’t have to open another daw to put out music . The daw you like represents who you are . It’s almost like what type of shoe you decide to wear . They all do the same thing but there are many subjective differences that people align or disalign themselves with .
The best all around DAW if everyone was honest with themselves, is Reason... If people sat down with with someone that knows Reasons, people would be amazed as to what Reason can do. Reason has its flaws, dont get me wrong. and they Piss me off alot by not listening to their primary customers. For example. on the mix board without an RE or Plugin, you can sidechain as sound from another. Reason also has its own version of Graphic tuning in the DAW. no Plugin. Thats just two examples.
I started off with Pro Tools for recording and Fl for beats then moved to Logic because Pro Tools started doing subscriptions. Logic is really goated. people are sleep
Been with Logic Pro X for yearssssss, but i gotta admit... UAD LUNA is now my favorite daw. I still go back and forth, but i mainly stick with LUNA. I miss vari-fi from pro tools and the slow down/speed up fades of logic though😅
Ngl, Reaper is quickly coming to replace Pro Tools. Cockos just updated from 6 to 7… and they ATE! I produce, record, and mix in Reaper. All this FL talk is giving me the itch to give it a go for production.

“Cuz you know who did? An actual Mastering engineer!!” I almost died listening to that 😂😂😂😂🤘🏾
Ableton is the deepest DAW out there as far as what it can do under the surface!! If I had only one to choose from it would be “Studio Vision” by Opcode but they don’t make that anymore more so Ableton is my go to for my overall DAW of choice!!
i use both FL for beats and Pro tools for vocals.
Logic , Pro Tools and Luna in the building yo send the EQ this way please
Because if we go with the features of SO, it has everything,
1. Mixing (with a easy routing system)
2. Mastering (like big daws just for mastering, Sequoia..)
3. Beat making (with a pattern section just like FL)
4. Converting instruments tracks with midi into audio, and if you want you can convert it back to an instrument track with the vsti & the midi.
5. Integrated Music Notation section (aka avid sibelius)
And now the most recent Dolby Atmos!
C'mon bro.
If I were forced to choose one desert island DAW, I would have to go with Logic Pro... very user-friendly. For music creation, I start in Live... they make their own hardware controller/interface and, depending on which version of the Push 3 you chose, it has the ability to be used in standalone mode.
What do y'all think about Logic Pro X mastering plugin
DEVVON GOATED WITH THIS ISHHH 💯
4:08 crispy tuner was wild 😂😂
Pro Tools got Devvon institutionalized. “Why would you need that!!” “Just use what you got!!”
LMFAO
Studio one!!!
idk…ive been using Ableton since 2015 and started using FL Studio late 2010 Ableton just a needs clip volume fader from the playlist without the need for extra scripts and a truly customizable interface . I could care less for a gross beat or a step sequencer tbr and interchangeable midi effects are a godsend vs clicking so many windows (and tiny buttons) to get the simplest shit done like an arpeggiator. FL Studio forever but I love me some Ableton
I’m using Auto-Tune Advanced UAD. The retune speed is pretty touchy compared to Pro
Ive used Studio One since V2...we are on V6 now? Insane
Use TB Kirchhoff-EQ to sidechain in stereo 🔥
STUDIO ONE THE GOD OF ALL DAWS
Reason Studio is my go to for recording and production
Devvon what year did you go to full sail. I’m pretty sure I met u there when we we both touring the school the year before we were planning on going.
This is the podcast that speaks to My Audio nerd heart!
Logic Pro ( mixing ) Final Cut Pro ( videos ) The Only Way
Apple eco system taking over you 😆 i think I’m same.
Pro Tools All Day 🔊🔊🔊
They just cracked the formula
This podcast is a blessing
My brain can only understand FL now.I can’t imagine switching because I.T does everything I want I.T to do and used I.T for so long . I like the fact you can go from start to scratch with FL and I don’t have to open another daw to put out music . The daw you like represents who you are . It’s almost like what type of shoe you decide to wear . They all do the same thing but there are many subjective differences that people align or disalign themselves with .
Trackspacer does the stereo sidechain, it works!!
I’ve only ever recorded in studio one
You are with the best
@@aishine8184 oh yea fasho
The best all around DAW if everyone was honest with themselves, is Reason... If people sat down with with someone that knows Reasons, people would be amazed as to what Reason can do. Reason has its flaws, dont get me wrong. and they Piss me off alot by not listening to their primary customers. For example. on the mix board without an RE or Plugin, you can sidechain as sound from another. Reason also has its own version of Graphic tuning in the DAW. no Plugin. Thats just two examples.
Bro everyone cutting courtney 💀
let the man speak damnnn 😭😭😭😭😭
It’s Crazy that Cubase isn’t talked about lol 😂 It’s literally the most featured packed DAW
I believe that if they include Cubase in their discussion, the features of their DAW will become diminished
@@AliAlZayer I agree lol 😂
Cubase but I for sure want to try Studio One.
If you see a person mix Dolby in FL, run
Studio One duh. FL is ok for rough drafting over beats.
FACTS 👌🏿
Now that studio one added Dolby, there is NO reason for pro tools fr
Our Ableton representative needs to start fighting for us
This is lit 🔥
I started off with Pro Tools for recording and Fl for beats then moved to Logic because Pro Tools started doing subscriptions. Logic is really goated. people are sleep
Been with Logic Pro X for yearssssss, but i gotta admit... UAD LUNA is now my favorite daw. I still go back and forth, but i mainly stick with LUNA. I miss vari-fi from pro tools and the slow down/speed up fades of logic though😅
Everytime i see a PT tutorial, i think how lucky i am that S1 does that better
Reaper 👀 people need to put respect on it
Tbh… this pod brings me peace🎶
I need an AutoTune Vocal Gate and I never knew until now. Thanks L. jean.
I Side Chain Stereo in Pro tools
Ngl, Reaper is quickly coming to replace Pro Tools. Cockos just updated from 6 to 7… and they ATE!
I produce, record, and mix in Reaper.
All this FL talk is giving me the itch to give it a go for production.
Studio One, hands down.
