Great to see a blind test from people who aren’t good at golf, but also creates a level of inconsistency that makes it more of a challenge to take any real value from the video.
Great video. Subscribed. It’s refreshing to see a video with people who are actually golfers who are not really that good, but looking to improve. This is like 95 percent of all of us.
You should do this with a few other balls like the new Mizuno balls, Bridgestone, some of the more popular budget balls. That’d be an interesting comparison.
My hcp is 1.2. I've been trying to dial in the best ball for me. Last year I had it narrowed down to Pro V1, TP5X and Z Star XV. I played 5 rounds with each ball on the same course. I only took score into consideration. To my surprise the Z Star XV was the winner, follwed by TP5X and then Pro V1. It was close though and I would be happy to play any of those 3.
I'm not ball biased. I'm like you guys, straight off the tee is most important to me. Hitting fairways makes the day sooooo much easier. I've been playing a srixon q-star the past year and it's been great!👍
Great channel guys keep up the good work! Awesome to see average dudes doing what they love and having a good time! Goes to show there is no perfect ball, me personally I play whatever Premier ball is on sale. Srixxon 3 for $99 great deal! That being said, bought a box of the 25 Pro V and it feels Amazing, soft , explosive, great combination of feel and performance. Titleist has the magic feel formula soft but not mushy, firm but not clicky.
As someone who did these testings also, a few things can affect a test. First, the club composite. What kind of metal, is it a cavity back, muscle back or game improvement. That alone can play the biggest role. Muscle and cavity backs are high launch less spin [usually]. And a CB is otherwise. So a softer spinnier ball can't work (lower level balls) The second would be shafts. They can add launch and spin. This test is a must for anyone 10 handicap or less and I'm glad you boys did it. People can see what a ball can do. No bridgestone though? An elite ball that I did a ball test and those were unbeatable "tigers ball"
Love this concept. Yes I believe you should make the change just based off the numbers alone and not personal feelings. Blind testing is awesome. Even the best fitters will preach that ball fittings are essential. Not every ball works for every different type of golfer. I di a ball fitting a couple years ago and was fitted into Bridgestone Tour BX and my best friend was fitted for Srixon Q Star, we are similar in ways but different enough that we need different style and brands of balls. Love the channel, keep up the awesome content and I look forward the the next video.
Would love to see a part 2 with some other balls: kirkland, vice, bridgestone, pro v1 vs v1x vs v1x left dash, maxfli, mizuno, especially as you two aren't tour pros and can give us a sense of what more typical golfers might experience.
30:40 tough question for me, because I get the ball I play cheap and many times for free. I’ve never played the Wilson but played the other 4. ProV’s and Chrome Tours (or Chromesoft X LS) have always performed well for me. I like the way the TP5 and Zstar perform in certain areas, but I don’t think they perform well enough in all areas. If I had to pay full price, then I’d be open to a fitting. Also, I would recommend fitting a ball to ones irons, then fitting ones driver to that ball.
I did this test blind but I did it outside on real wedge shots where scoring matters. The Titleist pro v1 was the best for green side spin. Thanks for the video.
@ . I said the Titleist pro v1 was the BEST for green side spin not the highest. Perhaps I was biased but at least I tested outside in real grass. Did you know that Carls Golf Land in Bloomfield Hills offers free Trackman range outside in the real world ? You hit off of grass. Even you can’t disagree that a ball hit out of real grass will spin differently than turf. And those plastic tube tees are strange. I have severe OCD and claustrophobia and I’m just annoyed I can’t test inside because I get freaked out. I really wish more places offered outdoor Trackman range on grass. You get my point ?
@@cantill2 I agree that grass gives a different result than turf. I also agree with the rubber tee thing. On a tangent with this topic as you're probably one of the only people that I think would understand - I don't have OCD but in my head the rubber tee grips the club and shuts down the face. I know impact has already happened but that's what is stuck in my head. It's a similar reason that I won't use a new tee on a par 3. In my head, the new tee stuck all the way into the ground is more grabby to the club face. Silly I know but just voicing that for the reason i mentioned above😂 Back on the original subject - though I do agree that grass creates different spin, it can create different spin on every shot. This could be because of a different grain direction, more or less moisture, slightly longer or shorter grass, etc etc. For testing the numbers back to back, I think artificial turf is the way to go. The numbers won't be identical to a show hit from the grass, but the differences will still be there and you can extrapolate those results into the real world (more spin = more spin even if the number is going to be higher or lower off of real turf). Hopefully some of that at least made sense. I have ADHD which is quite apparent in my tangents and run-on sentences.
@@ryanokeefe12 yeah i'm with you on all of your comments including about the new wooden tee!! Additionally it's not fair to test hitting drivers unless you wait at least 10-12 minutes before shots. Your body gets in a rhythm and you improve your strikes. Unfortunately the best way to test a driver is out on the course vs. just banging away mindlessly on an indoor simulator. Number of golf shots you'll ever hit indoors in real golf = zero. Take care.
I have never golfed a day in my life, but I like to watch it, but I have been a skateboarder since I was a little kid. I can totally understand this video 100% because if you blind tested me and gave me five skateboard decks, which is the piece of wood that the wheels hook onto or you gave me five different brands of wheels and told me to try them out without using them I still wouldn’t pick the best wheel from the blind test if it was a certain brand and I would pick a certain brand even if in the blind test, they didn’t perform very well.😊
Back in the 90’s Titleist gave Moe Norman $5000 a month for life, saving “Pipeline Moe” from poverty. Uilhein saved Moe, that’s my bias. I play Pro V1x. Good show, thanks.
Totally agree...lose a lot of strokes on the green so I have always chosen a ball that feels and reacts well to my putter. Not a long hitter so spin etc not as big a deal for me.
Great video and I love the blind testing. I think the only drawback is that some of the swings/strikes are a little inconsistent which is throwing off the Standard Deviations. I know it’s good to leave mis-hits in testing but when it’s a test like this maybe throw out the bad strikes to get a more fair comparison from ball to ball.
The Wilson Staff was one of he top balls in the My Golf Spy tests! I am always looking for a better ball in all metrics! Can you guys test the Maxfli Tour,X & S line up! Thanks guys
I love the chrome tour x as an all around performer. I have also found the TP5/X balls to get a bit squirrelly. ProV/1x are my favorite for greenside spin. That said, the TP 5 pix are awesome for putting alignment
Tayte!!! You need to give the Chrome Tour a go bud! It’s a great all around performer! That ball had me at HELLO after my first drive! Straight bombs! I do this every year as well and always come back to Callaway, they got things moving in the right direction with this exceptional creation of the Chrome Tour! Great job gents!
I had a fitting a couple weeks ago with Rich. It was the best and most professional fitting i have ever had. The process was great and I will be back for any future fittings.
I challenge you to try the Maxfli Tour S. I have tested many on. A Foresight sim and on the course. Haven’t been able to beat it, especially if you take the price into consideration.
Absolutely DO NOT CHANGE. Golf is such a mental game that if you play a ball that you don’t like, you’ll never hit a good shot with it. Plus your swing is so erratic, no offense, that the minor advantage of the Callaway is negligent. You’ll never see that difference on the course. Play your favorite ball and swing with confidence.
I was never a fan of Callaway and grew up playing ProV’s and Taylormade irons and woods. 2 years ago I started working for Callaway and switched to all Callaway throughout the bag and I’m playing the best golf of my life.
@@andrewgerred - Because you are getting better. PGA Class A here, Callaway need to get their shit together on quality control. I stopped buying personal items and stopped recommending them to customers when I ordered a bag and personal set of clubs from them. When the irons came in about 1/3 had gaps between the ferrule and club, and the inside of the bag was sewn poorly and the sliders that keep the clubs apart didn't work right because of it, and it was a custom order, they knew it was going to a golf pro. Since then I've repaired a couple customer clubs who complained about the ferrule issue as well. I wish Ely still owned the company because they totally went downhill after he sold it.
Can’t beat Srixon but 2 get 1 free. This will be my 3rd year in a row playing Srixon. First year was XV, last 2 are standard just bc my speed went down a little bit
When the Callaway Chrome tour x came out last year, it was really impressed… Being I had my choice of balls, though. The TP5 was a better fit for me. (Ex-srixon staffer here...diamond is still amazing)
I think you have to change. Cover the logo if it bothers you too much. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want to play Taylormade or Callaway clubs but I could care less about balls lol. You’ll lose them anyways. If you have the data that tells you what to play then play that ball for sure.
I’ve played all of these balls and my preference depends on where I’m playing. That sounds crazy but I’ve had good luck with all of them. I like Wilson balls if I’m playing a short game and Titleist off of the Tee.
I was playing Taylormade Tour Response and Maxfli Tour CG's until a guy handed me a Wilson Triad to play. I didn't expect much, but the thing just played better than any other golf ball I had tried. I bought 6 dozen....Came to find out that in the My Golf Spy reviews that the Wilson Triad had the best dispersion of any ball in the test that year. I don't care what brand it is if it keeps me in the short stuff and can hold greens.
This was a cool experiment. I liked doing this for myself when I play. Grab 3-4 different balls and play them at different times in the round. Always get some surprises both good and bad
Dude if you’re this surprised about tour level balls yall need to throw in a few 2 piece balls. You guys would be surprised. What most 2-piece balls lack is greenside spin but they perform surprisingly well off full shots
I honestly would have zero problems with switching to a ball that fits me best. I’d like a low spinning ball because my driver seems to balloon on me and I know I’m losing distance and accuracy because Titleist are very spinny for me. I used to play Pinnacles back in the day for heavens sake and I liked those lol.
Good video. Not entirely blind though. Started to be biased on color. Still builds confidence. Therefore changing mental thoughts. Keep balls 100% white and have someone keep track of what brand is hit.
One of the best tests on UA-cam! I switched to vice pro for the overall performance( and cost) from prov1. But the small differences are probably unnoticeable to most of us.
I would make the change if the price was right. I like to find deals on golf balls and recently I found the Maxfli tour X is a great price and a pretty underrated ball.
Brilliant test very enjoyable. I’ve played many brands and honestly can’t find much difference although every season I promise to stick with one brand.
Shame to see all the "really not that good" haters out here. Leave these guys alone. Their content is great, and they are better players than many of us!
I’m just not quite done here. Callaway might feel corporate and they are, but they also care about the military and little guy. You can buy all their clubs with a military discount which helps. They give the best trade in value and they have the best used club pricing. I LOVE and support them and I’m just a 54 year old fatman hacker.
As a person that's been golfing less than a year, I literally just play whatever I find. I got a bucket of randoms and I've shanked every brand into the woods 10+ times each. Maybe when I fix my swing, I can start thinking about a single brand, but as for now I just grab the colorful balls and have fun.
I play chrome soft x. I shot my best round of 80 with one. I play 5 to 8 rounds a year. So I bought a box of 6 different balls prov1x, tp5x, csx, cut blue, vice tour, kirkland.
I look for golf balls that fit my swing speed. I'm looking to optimize the ball performance. Usually a medium compression ball made for about 95-100mph
I've played them all except Callaway for at least 1 year. The only reason Callaway was never topping the list was I their version of dull yellow. Please do a putter test before finalizing, I can tell the difference in hardness based on how far they roll out on an 8ft putt. This might be a good decider between your top 3.
Not really sure what you’re talking about. Look at the numbers, orange, whatever it is, has been the most consistent and is in the top one or two in every category. Come on guys
You guys should’ve did like a bracket test head to head blue versus Orange and so on until there’s a ball that’s suits launch spin dispersion and feel you guys like
To me the putter changes how a putt feels way more than the ball which I honestly can't tell very much, but in reality feel doesn't matter at all except for feedback on your impact. By the time your brain processes feel, the ball is long gone and you can't change the result. That said, the old brass bullseye putters, and Ping beryllium copper putters, sure had a feeling like no others, and I'm sure there is a difference between urethane and other plastic covers like surlyn, and the way they feel.
but can the launcher even measure how good a ball is ? wind resistance of the balls isn't taken to account or the specific properties of the ball as it rolls . tho the second part may not matter much at all
Hey @krischampy1329! Great question! We didn't mention the specific wedge and iron in this video, but that's a fantastic point, and we'll definitely make sure to include that information in all future equipment reviews. Thanks for watching!
Because of the natural bias you have, you won't feel confident with the chrome tour x, no matter how well the number prove. But i suggest 1 box, play a sleeve or two until you lose them and see what your averages are after playing. Then play your favorite ball , 2 sleeves, see the numbers after and compare..
Like the idea, hence why as a scratch player I play Maxfli or Vice. Really doesn't make a difference. I only switch to firmer spinner four piece balls when I play on faster +11 greens. Save money it's really not worth it for 99.999% of golfers. But every decent golfer should use urathane golf balls to save some shot into or around the green.
I dont do trac hitting but i see the difference in putting distance with the different balls. Between Titleist and Callaway...the Callaway ball jumps off my putter making 15-30 inches longer than the Titleist.
I get the brand bias, and I did try other brands. However, I'm playing the ball that I didn't like in spite of bias. I now play Pro V1 for a couple years, because I like the performance and became a fan. So, now, I have a hard time playing other balls, because of bias. LOL
Wilson is a good ball! A good blind test though! I would not play a ball you don’t like something about! I’m playing TM Tour Response & Titleist True Feel. I have four other sleeves to try when the snow melts by Wednesday 1/29/25.
Not sure if u did or not, but if u didn't, would love to see u compare balls for your swing speed, verses balls that are not. If a persons swing speed is say 85mph, they shouldn't play a ball geared for 100mph.....great video!
Hahaha Toyte will be in bad mental mode rest of his season when choosing ball, and we only in January here. He cannot play Callaway as he dislike them but knowing in every shot that he should play Callaway will haunt him.
Tayte as a fellow negative aoa player. I’ve been gaming the Callaway chrome tour all last season, and it was the best performing. I’ve never been a Callaway guy either.
I dont want to play titleist, but i play the best with prov1x. My best scores and lose the least amount of balls. Even though the ball is expensive it costs me less because i dont lose them as often. I like the vice proplus green, easy to see and cheaper but i lose a sleeve a round easy
I play the cheapest I can find. Usually Wilson, but sometimes Srixon. And not the ones you guys tested. I mean, they all hit the trees the same. The only difference is Taylormade covers don't get destroyed as easy, but their cheapest is a bit more than the other two. Wilson covers are the worst and aren't a good fit if you have a Cobra F9 driver as it has a groove on the face that will destroy your balls. But Taylomade are fine with F9.
Thanks @scottbayne5710, appreciate you watching! We believe in unbiased testing to give everyone a fair picture. What kind of golf content would you like to see next? Let us know🏌🏼♀️

I switched to vice pro for the overall performance( and cost) from prov1. But the small differences are probably unnoticeable to most of us.
True
Very much enjoyed this video. Keep it up
Glad you liked it
You guys are great. I don’t know anyone can do this. I subscribed today! No change for ball. Wait until your Achilles heals.
Ha yes
I thought the tp5 results with the driver were really good for you guys! This was a fun video keep it up!
That’s why I knew what it was. When I gamed it a few rounds last year I lost all of them
I would make the change if the price was right. I like to find deals on golf balls and recently I found the Maxfli tour X is a great price and a pretty underrated ball.
Brilliant test very enjoyable. I’ve played many brands and honestly can’t find much difference although every season I promise to stick with one brand.
Haha and you probably break that promise? Or no?
Shame to see all the "really not that good" haters out here. Leave these guys alone. Their content is great, and they are better players than many of us!
You have to play the Callaway. I watched the full video waiting to see which one you’re gonna play. Hey it performed the best too!
I’m just not quite done here. Callaway might feel corporate and they are, but they also care about the military and little guy. You can buy all their clubs with a military discount which helps. They give the best trade in value and they have the best used club pricing. I LOVE and support them and I’m just a 54 year old fatman hacker.
That is a very solid point! Thanks for sharing 👌
It would be interesting to see you hit the price level just below these in the same brands. I bet the results are equal or better.
That's a great idea. We'll have to add that to our list!
I recommend lake balls for the medium to high handicaper.
As a person that's been golfing less than a year, I literally just play whatever I find. I got a bucket of randoms and I've shanked every brand into the woods 10+ times each. Maybe when I fix my swing, I can start thinking about a single brand, but as for now I just grab the colorful balls and have fun.
@shinyphat3105, love your style! Colorful balls and good times are what it's all about. Keep having fun out there!
Awesome video! Hope you can do more like this, maybe 70-80 compression balls?
That is a great idea, we will have to try that.
I would like to see the Oncore Vero 1x tried out like this.
Not really sure what you’re talking about. Look at the numbers, orange, whatever it is, has been the most consistent and is in the top one or two in every category. Come on guys
Love the vid! Hoping y’all are going to review the new Titleist hybrids!
We will!
Hey guys, I'm looking to do a fitting on driver, woods, and irons over the next couple months. I'd love to come up and do it there if possible
💯 you can book on our site and request Tayte or myself
Loved the blind test.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
I like the blind test. Could you please do a test on the ones a step down in price?
10:53 spinny and high launch for me for a mid iron is the z star diamond over the xv.
You guys should’ve did like a bracket test head to head blue versus Orange and so on until there’s a ball that’s suits launch spin dispersion and feel you guys like
You needed to test with a putter as well. To me that is one of the main things, how does it feel coming off the face of the putter
Play that Chrome Tour X!! Boom. That is what I am switching to as well.
Nice
I like the Srixon Softfeel for the price. It doesn’t spin like my MIZUNO RB Tour X, but it is really straight off the Driver and irons.
Your testing should be done with a machine swing. More consistent than human changes between swings. Human error is the major problem with your test/
So which balls fight human error the best?
I have played chrome tour X for a year nothing performs like it overall. I have tried to get out of it and hard to switch
I could see that
Yup same here for me it’s the best ball out there
but can the launcher even measure how good a ball is ? wind resistance of the balls isn't taken to account or the specific properties of the ball as it rolls . tho the second part may not matter much at all
I think it would be interesting to do this same again a few weeks later!
'They're so corporate, it's very corporate, which is fine cuz they're a corporation!' ..... What a load of bollocks! 😂
Did I miss which wedge and iron you are using?
Hey @krischampy1329! Great question! We didn't mention the specific wedge and iron in this video, but that's a fantastic point, and we'll definitely make sure to include that information in all future equipment reviews. Thanks for watching!
Vice Pro-Plus is the best for the money! I picked 3 boxes of them in Target for $19 a box! Ha ha!
But every decent golfer should use urathane golf balls to save some shot into or around the green.
why do you say the TP5X is too spinny but in both of your driver data that is the ball that had less spin and more distance?
Yes I would change , and have played wilson and have it some of the longest drives ever with it
I dont do trac hitting but i see the difference in putting distance with the different balls. Between Titleist and Callaway...the Callaway ball jumps off my putter making 15-30 inches longer than the Titleist.
That’s good to know
I get the brand bias, and I did try other brands. However, I'm playing the ball that I didn't like in spite of bias. I now play Pro V1 for a couple years, because I like the performance and became a fan. So, now, I have a hard time playing other balls, because of bias. LOL
Haha
Wilson is a good ball! A good blind test though! I would not play a ball you don’t like something about! I’m playing TM Tour Response & Titleist True Feel. I have four other sleeves to try when the snow melts by Wednesday 1/29/25.
I play wilson. Like it better than prov1
Excellent video guys!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
love this alot. wish you could do it for drivers too
Hmm. We could maybe try taping one up. And try hitting it that way
@@embersgolf Is there like a spray that comes off after? If you use tape, it will mess with weight too much maybe. Water based paint?
Add noodles to the next video
Not sure if u did or not, but if u didn't, would love to see u compare balls for your swing speed, verses balls that are not. If a persons swing speed is say 85mph, they shouldn't play a ball geared for 100mph.....great video!
Yes that’s true! We could bring someone in, we are both over 100
I'm pretty sure at the beginning of the video you guys said you would play whatever ball you hit best. Why is this a debate?
Hahaha Toyte will be in bad mental mode rest of his season when choosing ball, and we only in January here. He cannot play Callaway as he dislike them but knowing in every shot that he should play Callaway will haunt him.
I would probably not change to Wilson. not a Cally fan either. I play Bridgestone and tp5.
Whatever is on sale at Walmart I’ll get 😂 for putting I really do like the roll of titlelest velocity 🤔
Tayte as a fellow negative aoa player. I’ve been gaming the Callaway chrome tour all last season, and it was the best performing. I’ve never been a Callaway guy either.
Interesting
Forgive my ignorance, but what does “negative aoa” mean?
@ negative angle of attack. It’s a definite swing flaw that typically produces too much spin especially on the driver.
I dont want to play titleist, but i play the best with prov1x. My best scores and lose the least amount of balls. Even though the ball is expensive it costs me less because i dont lose them as often. I like the vice proplus green, easy to see and cheaper but i lose a sleeve a round easy
All good points
I play the cheapest I can find. Usually Wilson, but sometimes Srixon. And not the ones you guys tested. I mean, they all hit the trees the same. The only difference is Taylormade covers don't get destroyed as easy, but their cheapest is a bit more than the other two. Wilson covers are the worst and aren't a good fit if you have a Cobra F9 driver as it has a groove on the face that will destroy your balls. But Taylomade are fine with F9.
Too bad you didn’t test the Costco ball and a couple of the well rated balls on amazon. I agree we are VERY brand biased.
Average golfers doing unbiased testing….great stuff!
Thanks @scottbayne5710, appreciate you watching! We believe in unbiased testing to give everyone a fair picture. What kind of golf content would you like to see next? Let us know🏌🏼♀️
