- A sunny summer day... predatory Ambush bugs are lurking in your favorite wildflower meadow... as they say, "it's a jungle out there".
See this nasty looking little insect do its thing in the flowers. Read the story at the New England Forests blog (neforests.com). Please subscribe to this New England Forests channel to receive notifications of new videos.
wow amazing footage, what a dynamic flower metropolis within those goldenrods
Your footage of ambush bugs is remarkable! Do you mind if I ask what sort of camera and lenses you used for these shots? I really enjoy insect photography and filming.
+ShadowTrailMedia This was shot with a Panasonic HC-X1000 4k video camera. The extreme closeups were done with a closeup lens attached. The 4k video was rendered down to HD.
Nice! That's some great footage with really nice color and detail.
Nice footage!

There isn't much good footage of these little monsters other than this and my videos so it was worth a comment. ;)
the title is really poetic
I found one of these little guys and put it on my milkweed so he could eat the aphids... I didnt know anything about what it was until now, I just assumed bc of its tiny size that it was just an aphid eater. Looks like I was wrong! Nice video tho, im gonna have to watch goldenrod a little closer
Don't put an ambush bug on your milkweed! Even a small ambush bug can kill a larger monarch caterpillar. Presumably you want the monarchs to thrive! I watched one get killed this way and it died quickly and horribly, in spite of being a big 5th Instar Monarch caterpillar before the attack.
The hapless bee to come along at video end is a Megachile bee not a fly
Janet,
I believe you're right. I incorrectly identified it as a fly because I had only noticed two wings, not four. Thanks for the correction, I just learned something. Thankfully the bee wasn't an ambush bug's meal!
I will never complain about lunch again. Thank God Im not a bug.
