Landscape Photography at Rhosneigr, Anglesey

- In a temporary departure from my current series of obscure locations, I visit a local beach at Rhosneigr on Anglesey, North Wales for some landscape photography during golden hour and sunset.
A Friday evening in late April offered stunning weather during a mini-heatwave. So I decided to make the most of it. Without a cloud in the sky I wasn't hopeful of the best sunset images, but there was plenty to photograph in the clear golden light. And as the sun finally set, the last couple of images demonstrate that even without spectacular clouds to light up, the setting sun can make for some colourful and evocative images.
My budget equipment ...
Camera: Nikon D5500
Lenses: Nikkor 18 - 140mm, Tokina 11 - 16mm ATX Pro, Sigma 70 - 300mm.
Filmed on Hawkeye Firefly 8S, with external lavalier mic and DJI Spark drone.

Another good one, David, thanks. Great colours in the final shot.
Thanks a lot Brian. I honestly thought there'd be nothing to shoot as far as a sunset went. Just goes to show how often I get it wrong! :)
Thanks David - another great location, video and set of images. Cheers, Ian
Thanks a lot Ian, I always appreciate your encouragement! 👍
Some great shots there and an entertaining video. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot David, I really appreciate your support and encouragement! 👍
Wonderful video David - beautiful work
Thanks a lot James, I do really appreciate your support and encouragement!
Another excellent episode David. The last telephoto image was a stonker.
Yes I rather liked that one too. Not too difficult, as lens flare / exposure quite straightforward to control with the sun so low. But I'm a bit of a sucker for the sunsets round here!
Love it David - I spent a night at Rhosneigr last september, wonderful sunsets there!
Thanks Steve - hope you can come back and visit again some time. The whole south west of the island can be great for sunsets if the weather plays ball!
First video of yours i've seen, i'll be tracking back through the other 35. Really good, well thought out, informative. Subbed!
Thanks Jeff. Really appreciate your support and hope to keep you entertained! 👍
Very relaxing and enjoyable vlog mate :-)
I'm a total sucker for golden hour on the beach - I try to reign it in a bit otherwise my entire portfolio will be this sort of thing! 😄
So many happy memories of taking our girls there 🐾🐾 Lovely pictures 💕
Yeah, I felt it x
Another great Vlog looking forwards to out talk, and maybe getting together before
Thanks Barry. I'm starting to get a bit nervous about it!! 😬
its gonna be a great night we are all old gits as well so we should all get on
beach is always changing and very rewording specially for photographers, you have great ability to find hidden gems around the coast, you delivered again beautiful pictures, thank you my friend, keep up good work, cheers Verdon!
Thanks Verdon, I'm fortunate to live between the mountains and sea, so I can take advantage of the conditions at short notice. Many photographers are limited by when they can visit this area and so are forced to cope with whatever the conditions are at the time.
Hi David, just come across your vlog. I love the "warts & all attitude. It is what it is. Don't put yourself down so often. you've given me some great ideas regarding composition & locations off the normal track. keep up the good work & more importantly keep vlogging.
Thank you Geoff. Really pleased to have been able to help you out with a few ideas. I do have a very long list of locations I intend to cover so hopefully you'll have even more to think about! 😀
Some nice shots there again David. I do like your use of the camera mounted on the hotshoe but we don't mind seeing your face jeez should see what us viewers look like lol
Yeah it was actually a bit of a tripod fail. But I've often thought, when watching other vloggers describe a composition, it would be helpful to actually be able to see it for myself before the image reveal. I usually have the vlog cam on a tripod behind my DSLR looking out towards the view, but in terms of setting up the shots, this method enabled me to concentrate a bit more on the photography. I'll probably just mix it up a bit in future!
Nice sunset. The second last image was my favourite with the sunset and water
Cheers John. That was my favourite too. Even though it was a cheesy comp!
Hi David. Well you've been and gone and done it again with a location I've never been to !! All credit to you, and as I said on the White Beach video - thought I knew the island but you've pulled the rabbit out of the hat again! I was taking sunset shots at Llyn Ogwen on that Friday evening and like you, would have preferred a couple of clouds to add interest but those blue skies were tremendous (got a couple of decent shots of last light on Tryfan though). Your images here are outstanding, top quality sunset shots. I'll definitely be paying this location a visit in the coming months. Massive thanks for sharing David.
Hi Tim, you're more than welcome! i still have a long list of locations to cover so hopefully you'll be spoilt for choice! Let me know when you're in the area if you fancy hooking up some time.
Hi David. That would be great - thank you! I'm not back on the island (or North Wales for that matter, unfortunately) for a couple of months now but will keep your kind offer in mind for next time. Thanks again David.
I’m coming to Anglesey!! Watch out, if ever there was an advert for going it’s your vlogs David 😁👍 loved this particular sunset 4:36 wonderful shot.
I'm really looking forward to your next visit here so we can collaborate, perhaps? 👍
