- Opposition leader Peter Dutton speaks after a snap partyroom meeting to discuss its plans for nuclear energy in Australia.
A future Coalition government would seek to build nuclear power plants in Gippsland in Victoria, Gladstone in Queensland, Port Augusta in South Australia, Collie in Western Australia and the Hunter in New South Wales.
Seven reactors would be built in total with the first two to come online in 2035-37.
Liberal and National Party members are currently being briefed on the new policy which was signed off by shadow cabinet last night.
The reactors would be built on the site of existing coal-fired power stations, using existing transmission line infrastructure, and mostly in Coalition electorates.
