    i have bought two GMG grills and am looking for a 3rd for a new house we just purchased. The support you will receive from GMG is stellar if you need help or troubleshooting or replacement parts. This is one of the main reasons I am staying with GMG.

      @@EarthSense I’m well experienced with large offset smokers but I’ve never gone down the pellet road, I’m in Australia. Made a purchase this-morning & set up, with thanks to your video. I will be doing a few cooks while camping this weekend, will definitely get back in touch once I’ve completed a few cooks.
      Cheers again, keep up with the videos. Really helpful & enjoyable to watch!

      @@blakemarshall6374 Thanks for the message Blake! Sounds great, look forward to hearing how it goes. I do know the USA & Canada Trek grills have the 12V and 120V power options. The 12V should work fine for you while camping and running off a 12V battery source. In my research Australia and NZ run off a Type I 230V AC power supply. We're you able to get a Trek that is suitable for the AC power you have there? Thanks again, glad the vids have been helpful!

    Are the legs long enough that I can set it on my tailgate or table and cook without worrying about damaging them? Or will I need some kind of heat sheild ?

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for contacting us. GMG does recommend operating the grill on a non-combustible surface. For tailgates and tables they recommend a non-combustible heat shield is in place. Any other questions please let us know. Thanks!

    Great review and also assembly videos! Is the grate surface wide enough to cook 2 racks of ribs 🍖 horizontally without having to cut them in half? Thanks!

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks so much. Depending on the size of the racks, but I would say that I have done 2 full racks in there at once of average/normal size. We do also offer a rib rack which will stand them more vertical - Link here to check out. Thanks! pellethead.com/product/green-mountain-grills-gmg-davy-crockett-half-rib-rack-oem/

    since I just recently purchased the DC i have a couple of questions regarding the upgrades you showed us:
    1.) can you purchase a handle so i can add one to the DC.
    2.) can you purchase the new improved sensor and would it even be compatible with the DC's control board?
    I'm definitely going to try and modify my DC to the sliding heat adjustment, I work in a fab shop and have access to everything i would need!
    Once again a great review, very informative!!
    Thanks.

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  3 роки тому

      Thanks for reaching out, glad the review was helpful!
      1.) We do not currently have or stock the Trek side handles. I would imagine those will be available shortly and that we will have stock on them. We do carry the Davy Crockett Hopper handles which could be something that works. I've always just carried the Davy's with the folding legs as the handle.
      2.) I just reached out to our tech team on the Trek thermal sensor. GMG has stated it will not work for the Davy Crockett, our tech team is going to be doing further tests with it. I have 2 Davy's - 1 is about 8 years old and the other 3. I've never had an issue with the thermal sensors and they hold temp very well.
      3.) On the Davy there are two protrusions in the base of the grill cavity that hold that heat shield baffle into position whereas the Trek does not allowing that baffle to slide. Same here, I've never had an issue with the fixed baffle in my Davy Crockett's, but I would think one could modify if they wanted.
      My suggestion would be to use the Davy Crockett as is, do a bunch of tests, cook a bunch of food before determining if you want to do any modifications to it.
      Hope that was helpful. Thanks!

    Next update GMG should do is add internal light and camera.

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  2 роки тому

      In GMG's larger models they have incorporated an interior light which is pretty slick - hoping they do that with the Trek as well down the line. An internal camera is a really cool idea. Real time video monitoring of the food through the app - brilliant idea Jack!

    I'm thinking of picking one of these up for a Christmas gift. I know my old man smokes turkeys in his current smoker. The 8 inches of clearance from the grate to the lid concerns me. Does this have enough volume to fit a turkey inside it?

    • @EarthSense
      @EarthSense  2 роки тому

      Hey Andrew, It would definitely depend on the size of the Turkey - I've seen some big ones out there. I did a Turkey in the Davy Crockett last Thanksgiving - Trek has the same measurements as the Davy. Pretty decent size bird - turned out outstanding. Quick video on that for reference - ua-cam.com/video/UcvwwUyk4_k/v-deo.html

      @@michaelcagle4662 Thanks for the info Michael. I know GMG recently released the 'GMG PRIME' app. I personally have yet to use it, but do plan on doing a video regarding it soon. It could be they are phasing out the original legacy app and moving to the new prime app - Would need to verify with them, but I'm guessing this is the case if you are receiving that error. Try deleting the original app and downloading the Prime app to connect there. Keep us posted. I will play around with it this week as well and let you know of any insight I gain. We'll get it right. Thanks,

    I don't see how this is better than the older version. Too low to the ground

      Thanks for the message. The Davy is great grill as well; Trek just has a couple other features and has the ability for the extension leg accessory and cart accessory to bring it higher up off the ground. Any questions just let us know. Thanks!
