Three Prong Spearfishing (catch and cook) ALMOST PUKED!

  • In todays episode I go spearfishing with my friend Ulukoa. I shoot the three prong while he shoots the gun. We test out my new gear, shoot a bunch of fish, and head back to his house to cook it all up. At his house they introduce me to local delicacy that nearly makes me puke.

    My PB tako (13lbs) was taken at 68 feet.
    Ive heard stories of big tako holding divers down so I shot it between the eyes. Imo, as long as youre positive its legal size, shoot or grab. It dont matter...🤙

      Ya I wish I could focus on roi but I see one on each and every dive to the bottom. It’s all I’d do if I shot every one I see. I will try and do better though I know guys who do one roi for every other type of fish and kinda liked that system.

    When I grew up Kona now Washington I had a vest with pockets that I’d throw weights into. I didn’t like weight belt as it hurt after time I deal with scoliosis. It was an inexpensive vest that I could distribute weight evenly around my torso. Found it working great for me, do any divers still use this setup? Also we boys used to duct tape weights on back of treeprong before hybrids came out. Shoot and let it fly off fingah was the bestest!

    Why to catch such a small octopus ?

  • @mattw5684

    My bigger concern about tako these days what has been discovered about their level of cognition. I think it roughly equivalent to that of dog's, which makes me somewhat ambivalent about taking them at all. I do love tako ceviche, though.

      Ya that’s a tough one. Seems to be a super sustainable food source out here though and they are delicious. Will be interesting in the future to see what happens to Tako regulations.

      @@RyanMyersExpeditions I definitely agree. Feral pigs also have high levels of cognition, but I have no problem at all with hunting and eating them.

    No thanks on the Chubs, im in FL: and i feed it to my dogs if they bleed hard. Relax on the Tangs though, with regulations yall can eat them but I cant put them in a fish tank to live.....

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  3 роки тому

      Ya aquarium rules are kinda nuts. They can’t catch one for the tank here either but we can kill 100 for a party.

    I personally don't kill octopus when I dive in California where I'm from, currently living in NYC so I don't do much diving right now but I just can't bring myself to do it. I eat octopus so I don't have an issue with killing them, they're just such smart animals and I'd rather eat some commercially farmed stuff than kill the little local octopi when there are so many good non-threatened fish around. However if I were in Hawaii I'd probably go after them more and they get way bigger there

    • @RyanMyersExpeditions
      @RyanMyersExpeditions  3 роки тому +1

      Ya I understand that. Only saw them rarely in Florida so didn’t kill them but out here they are super prevalent and grow really fast.

      @@RyanMyersExpeditions Yeah exactly. And I kind of assume that's the same reason I don't see you shoot the Uhu very often? Because they're such beautiful and intelligent fish and there are so many other species to get. I'd like to see you do a video about why you target the species that you do
