      His showmanship is just him feeling the music. Consider that because of his extremely controlled upbringing on the piano he never learnt how to use emotion as other people do. So now as an adult he brings emotion in his own way.

    • @arthurwayne3421
      @arthurwayne3421 8 років тому +55

      +Jo ha as far as I know, quite a few people criticize LangLang's playing, actually what he plays is how he interprets the music. Even for the same piece of music, sometimes I like his playing, other times, I prefer Rubinstein. That means, we understand music differently at different times. All of the performers are serious and sincere, especially Lang, the play from his heart and nothing less.

    I love this clip. I remember thirty years ago being perpetually hounded by my teachers to sit still. I adored Glenn Gould and when I got to Juilliard I insisted that all Canadians played much more freely. Didn't impress my teachers ... one of whom physically chased me out of his studio. Oooh la la .... I LOVE this guy.
    After decades of never touching a keyboard ... I'm back at it. And I watch Lang Lang every once in a while to make sure that joy is permitted nowadays. It is!

    This is Prokofiev's 3rd Piano Concerto, the climax of 3rd Movement.. Quite agitated and difficult to understand or express technically or musically. Langlang shows what he thinks in this complex polyphonic feast of sound.. He has a great imagination and try to make his music alive.. I respect him. Most of all he really loves music, trying to understand what he's doing in a very candid manner.

    yOU ARE SO RIGHT!
    I felt like a child again when I watched this. I felt his joy and exuberance...almost as if watching a beautiful bird full of life being set free from a cage. It pleased me in such a way.
    You are quite an evolved person as far as perspective goes. Surely you have or will touch many lives with that positive energy. It is fabulously contagious given open and receptive intellect and I pray it runs rampant!
    Cheers to you!

    I don't know how you can hate a man like this, talented, passionate, hilarious, full of charisma! He is no clown, as a Chinese, I am very proud of him. Just laugh, we have enough serious pianists around. If you really can play better than him, then I guess you would be decent enough not to laugh at him but to respect he for who he is!

    Lang should be a comedy actor instead of Pianist! I bet he will have a more successful career!

    Lang Lang is clearly an extremely talented musician. But the word Genius is only applied to those who Compose in my opinoin. People who are only pianists are not geniuses; they are extremely disciplined and hard working. The guy who wrote this was a genius, not the guy who can play it after

      I remember Langlang once said that he was confused about how to play the prelude of a Rachmaninov concerto for a very long time until he was standing beside a belfry and heard how it sounded (not really sure about the details because it was a long time ago). I think for me this just strengthened my idea that he is a genius: just like any composer a pianist needs to create too. To play such with emotions, passion, and meaning to have touched his audience to such a degree--I think that made him an artist, a genius as well. Otherwise why not just train a robot and let the machine play the tune? I am sure it wouldn't be the same, even if the robot plays the work exactly as what had been wrote.
