What a great video Chad! I just picked up an energizer and netting. Hopefully it will keep raccoons out.

Good morning Chad. You make everything look so simple. Good job. I have a question about the netting. Could the netting be stapled or attached to wooden 2x4 to make the netting a little more stable. Let us know how the ducks and geese react to the live wire fence. Have you ever thought of getting a LSG dog to protect the birds.

I have thought about LGD but it's more of a longer term once more of the farms infrastructure is setup, plus I need to have a way to fence it all off to the farm stay guests. But I really don't think this type of netting can be fixed to anything cause it affects the electric current. Even for us it's just a temporary solution. The fowl don't seem to have figured it out that they'll get zapped yet or maybe I just haven't noticed. A proper fence is our long term plans maybe once I have a huge pond built and the orchard is older and we have bees.

I got 4 100 foot premier one netting
Your not supposed to have a closed circuit
So the end I made the gate

Thank you for the great video! I purchased the Gallagher 84ft poultry netting yesterday to give my chickens a few hours of supervised free range time, but I had not a clue how to provide power to the fence. Now I do... perfect timing!

The charger you use looks like it is mainly made for larger animals. No pics of birds on it. Only big animals. Is that OK?

You're good. Yes it is a more powerful energizer and you should use the poultry level one, but this was what I had on hand while I awaited my order lol. Good eye.

It looks like the fence is touching the grass everywhere. Is that a problem? Also, there is no gate. Are you sure the ends need to be connected or is that just so you can add length as needed?

Good question. The netting is not supposed to touch anything. I did clear debris but after a few weeks it all grows back then what…move the fence and mow again. Too much work…good for temporary setups but I’m putting up permanent fencing with hot wires on top so less maintenance.

How heavy is the fence in the box it came in?

Oh I don’t know exactly, but it couldn’t be more than 40 lbs

I want to keep the coons and squirrels from climbing up my wooden posts and emptying my bird feeders. My plan is to wrap the netting around the 6 x 6 womanized.posts And connecting each netted post with a insulated wire in the ground. Would that work?

not sure really but seems an expensive way to go. You could just go with 1 or 2 hot wires. This netting comes in 150' lengths too.

The fence can be run in a straight line, off the side of a barn, another fence, etc...I have an existing fence that butted up to a barn and was able to run my poultry fence in an straight line to help keep the dogs out of the chickens area and give them significantly more space.

I don’t see why not. I don’t even energize mine anymore, cause I put the birds to bed nightly and our two sheepdogs never get in there. But then again my dogs are trained to all our animals so they won’t hurt them anyway. It makes good temporary fencing with the option to electrify.

I had used electric netting, it was a pain to have to keep the grass from touching it. Do you think , if you put a garden cloth under the edge it would work?

it may well work but thats a lot of work too. It hasn't been too bad yet but I've only mowed once so far, it might get to be too much work and I might not even use the energizer...I don't leave the birds out overnight anyway, we'll see how it goes. It's probably a good solution for us in the mean time until I get proper fencing setup and a pond built.
